no more SOE for me. We cancelled three accounts today. My brothers, my sons and Mine. The bad part is.. if someone else made either planetside or MxO, i would try them out... but I'll never subscribe to another SOE MMO.
We are playing DAoC while we wait for a few other games to come out.... and I am constantly amazed how bug free it is, my only other MMO experience being with SOE games.

I am not boycotting SOE products because of the SWG NGE. However, I did cancel my Station Access account, so that now I only subscribe to Everquest II.
To be honest, I miss the Station Access, because I logged into EQ and The Matrix Online occasionally. What happened with SWG is a crime, and those responsible should be banned from working in this business, but not all SOE is responsible.
The devs and team behind Everquest II is not the same as the ones that ruined SWG. I won't punish them by boycotting, but I definitely won't ever subscribe to another SOE product created and run by the team that was involved with SWG.
Smedley takes a lot of heat, but I can't place all the blame on him and the higher-ups at SOE. As a dev and creative designer, I would think you would want to keep consistant with the vision of the game you're making. Obviously, the original vision of SWG was scrapped and I have no respect for anyone on that team for going along with it. I mean, what did they think the results would be? Selling out your player-base and copying the most successful mmorpg on the market will earn you not respect.
Anyway, I still am not giving up on SOE, there are still some creative minds that will try to improve their games and keep their players in mind. I see it in EQ2, as improvements are made often, and usually to the satisfaction of the players who have a part in it by speaking and it seems the devs are listening. SWG basically said screw you to their players, and this was their biggest mistake.

According to the shareholders of every publicly trade corporation out there yes Greed is good intentions. Although the stockholders of Sony might want to review Mr. Smedley's total lack of ability in achieveing stockholder wealth maximization.
Anybody with half of brain would have kept the cash he had in hand with the 25-40 crowd and just made new servers for his wonderful NGE. That way he could have maximized Sony's use of the Star Wars IP by appealing to as broad an audience as possible without alienating anyone(with the 70 devs spilt in half this would have been possible. EVE made due with 5 for years if he couldn't manage that he shouldn't be managing anything).

I wont subscribe to any SOE games. other Sony products are still fair game. I think they should stick with the products they know, and do well in.. the mmo market is not for them. Give up while your ahead. Chalk up EQ EQ2 as a success, and call it good. Let's all nerf SOE! lol.
I've boycotted all Sony & Lucas Arts products myself as well. I was so waiting for Empire at War, but I'm not purchasing due to my personal convictions to this boycott of products. I really hate it because I consider myself a huge SW fan, but I'm keeping my stand this time.
As I've seen some people are discussing and as I have discussed in other forums or other threads here. I am boycotting all products that are Sony related due there shady business practices in the past year, not just SOE on SWG. Sony put out a robot dog a little while back that they are already telling folks that they will discontinue supporting in a few years. So all these folks that purchased this 2k robot are screwed after that. That's pretty bogus if you ask me. They also put what I would consider malware on peoples computers who were listening to their CDs. I'll never by another one of their CDs. We know what they've done to SWG, and for me...the third time your out bro.
LA, I hope you can change your habits and just bury this dead horse. I hope the comic folks pick another vendor to host their MMORPG, and Sony, well....there just isn't anything nice to say about your company or your products at this point.
To date, I have discouraged 23 people from purchasing SWG, several others from purchasing other soe games, and a few from buying their electronics equipment.

But SOE in no way has anything to do with Sony Electronics. Sony has some of the best electronics on the market. I applaud them for that, and it is why I bought a Trinitron Monitor and TV, Because they are the best in their class. Sony has one of the biggest and broadest patent portfolios in the market, and is responsible for many innovations that we all take for granted today.
By all means hate and boycot SoE, in fact I encourage it. But don't kill off a good company because of what only part of it is doing. that would be like avoiding all Hershey's products because you don't like one of them.
If SoE consistantly fails to turn a profit because of lackluster performance then Sony will eventually sell it off to another company that may do a better job of running things.

I'm not gonna debate the blame on a portion of a company, but as far as I am concerned, they are representatives of the SONY brand, and right now I see 3 portions of their business acting irresponsibly when it comes to their customers. If that ain't saying something about them, then I don't know what is. When I was with AT&T Wireless, we utilized that wonderful little Blue Globe that is the logo for AT&T. While they said it was a seperate company, one thing they also said was that the brand name & logo spoke for itself and was representative of all products with that logo on it. This is simply the same thing with SONY.
If this boycott were to take their entire organization down, I have NO PROBLEMS with it whatsoever. There are plenty of other companies out there with quality products that can replace their products, and those companies provide better service for their products.
I'll admit, they have had some great stuff over the years, and that I use to be a big SONY proponent, but within the last year, I've done a 180 due to their continued corporate bs policies & practices, and all-in-all they just have a 5h!++y Attitude towards their customers!!
Again, I reiterate, Let the whole company go down as far as I'm concerned. If they are going to continue not just on one of the playing fields, but on 3 that I have seen in the past year, then they deserve to be disposed of by their customers. LA was no doubt a willing partner in the decisions that were made, but they're more oversight in nature - SOE proposed the changes (especially the specifics) and made them happen, LA just rubber-stamped them. Besides, a very large proportion of the issues I feel are most important are CS related, and there's no way I can blame LA for most of that. SOE has probably been feeding them the same line we've been getting, and for a long time LA was foolish enough to believe it. At least now LA knows something is very, very wrong.

This just begs the question- do you understand how a for-profit business works? "Greed" is the whole point.
They don't mean "some profit" when they make the company- they mean "as much profit as possible"... Most of the comments I see concerning Sony (which I am ambivalent towards) sound like they expect them to be a non-profit service provider.
Again, this stems from a massive lack of knowledge on the costs involved in running an MMGS and how business works in general for most companies in existance.
Also, Boycotts rarely, rarely, rarely work (especially with a large company- the number of customers is too sheer to cause more than a tiny ripple effect they see all the time anyways). You'll find your best bet is to write a polite, properly spelled, grammatically correct letter to the company expressing your displeasure- and expect nothing else, including receiving a reply. Most companies will read and silently absorb this information for future development matricies- extremely few would ever choose to modify or change a prior product, or even current products.

While I would never buy a sony MP3 player because of the copy-right setup for transferring the songs (I have a Clie work gave me that uses the same system, I have have first hand "Magic Gate" knowledge) Boycotting a publishing and retail arm of a company that had almost nothign to do with the changes to SWG has no real merit.
My favorite boombox is an Aiwa that uses MDs from the 90s, still kicking (a Sony product). I still prefer my Sound Sourece 3 to a SONY MD recorder over an MP3 player.

I used to play EQ2, EQOA, and SWG. I was halfway through the village when the NGE hit, I cancelled the station pass within 1 week of the NGE.

My favorite boombox is an Aiwa that uses MDs from the 90s, still kicking (a Sony product). I still prefer my Sound Sourece 3 to a SONY MD recorder over an MP3 player.
Sorry, but this elitism of who someone supports or not is getting out of hand. The old SWG is gone. Either PPL accept that or not. But if you don't there is no reason to mourn it for this long. Time to find a new game, or stop playing games honestly.
Now this isn't to say I support Sony either fully. I won't buy a CD published by them or their subsidiares, for the whole copy-right protection issue. If I want a song from a CD they publich I download it.
You do realize that there are other MMO publishers that make theiur own published games compete directly yes? Cough CCP Vs Blizzard Cough. Son'y doesn't do this, kinda makes you think huh?
But, what do I know? I gave up on the old SWG because if the bots and other issues former players on this forum seem to forget. SWG was dying. It had many nice aspects but was dying overall, else the revamp wouldn't have happened.
Seriously, time to find a new game or move past playing MMOs. None are perfect, but ppl are making the old SWG sound perfect, which it wasn't.
Boycotting everything Sony, and everything Lucas.

While I would never buy a sony MP3 player because of the copy-right setup for transferring the songs (I have a Clie work gave me that uses the same system, I have have first hand "Magic Gate" knowledge) Boycotting a publishing and retail arm of a company that had almost nothign to do with the changes to SWG has no real merit.
