The quick and dirty of it is this: You're limited to BR6 (which is 11 cert points). This means per character you're more limited in raw versatility. You can still pilot/gun for the big tanks, fly aircraft, snipe, use the heavy infantry weaponry (HA), sneak around in an infiltration suit, use MAX armor... just not all of them on one character. I'd personally recommend focusing on a specific role and just creating multiple characters (getting to BR6 is pretty quick).
If you upgrade your account to a full subscription, you retain all of your characters and all of your progress towards Merits and are able to go beyond BR6 and pilot BFRs.
Hope to see you out on the huge and varied battlefield that is Planetside.

LOL BR6 is a waste. I played PS in beta and while I had my AAP have played it since release. But BR6 just aint worth playing. You can EASILY hit BR6 in 1 night of play.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

BR6 isn't exactly a waste... they raised the initial number of cert points everyone gets to 6 at BR1. So by BR6 you'll have 11 cert points which opens up quite a few options, though not as much versatility that you get with paying accounts.
There is also a way to get the disk install to work with the reserves...

Yeah i managed to find that workaround although it requires like 4 hours of patching on the installer probably get the core combat update?
