Sorta. One good thing from the huge hit to the sub numbers is that it looks like they're actually worried about ticking more people off. The question is, now that they decided not to do the quick fix will they ever put together a real fix?

"Hello,
Through the process of evaluating and refining the design and gameplay experience we are iterating for Publish 28, as described here, we have identified a change that I want to share with the community.
After reviewing the state of the Entertainer combat abilities we have decided to remove them from Publish 28. The combat abilities are not as unique, nor are they adding as much to the gameplay experience as we had hoped and they don't currently meet the quality level that we want to achieve with our publishes. Additionally they don't ultimately provide what most entertainers are looking for at this point based on the feedback we have received. I cant honestly predict what direction we will ultimately go with this initiative, but I can tell you that I will keep you informed.
Another key topic I want to get back to you on covers questions about the missing novice dances (Exotic 1, Exotic 2, Popular 1, etc.). We have heard your feedback about the missing novice dances and we're working on getting them added back to the advancement path.
Thanks again for your support and feedback,

"To reiterate on what Rogue-5 said - the entertainers abilities were very generic (couple of direct damage specials, couple of self heals) and didn't provide a unique style of gameplay. Any of the other combat professions already provide everything the entertainer abilitites would have given you, plus some. On top of that, the overwhelming feedback from the entertainer community clearly conveyed to us that those actually playing the profession for reasons other than easy advancement via respec do not wish to participate in combat directly.
From the entertainer feedback we received, the system simply didn't meet the needs of that community. Our #1 committment at this point is quality. That includes not only improving the quality of the current game, but also making sure that new content is up to par. The entertainer system didn't cut it for us, so we cut it from the publish.

Out of all that, all I got was that they figured out they pissed off even more players, so they decided it wasn't a good idea. They can't lose too many more subs, there isn't that many left to cancel.
It really and honestly feels like they have no real roadmap still. I wonder who is running things over there. Who is making design decisions? I guess whoever had great ideas left.
Please tell me what you won?
Though some of the entertainers were vocal clearly it was not a win, all it did was remove you from there sites while they work on the other proffessions they had compelted designs for. WHile it would have given some axcess to content for some that wanted the hybred again.
For the vocal loud over there that brought up only one point which was the afk kin grind to master to use respec to combat, that is in no way different then pre cu when 50 precent + grinded all their proffesions afk
Other aspect unless it is done similarly to the traders then still the entertainers can trapse through some of the dungons and gain loot at the end of tunnel. So while you seeminly to have won something, the only thing it will look like is them putting you back on the long list, and you may recieve something after the smugglers that is if there is anyone left to tick off.......
I was wondering if it's true that when Auzies look in the toilet and see SWG if it is swirling CCW. I know here in North America it swirls CW.
Why do you even bother?
This game is the SOE and it's not worth anyone's time tbh.

SWG pre cu - never forgotten.
Thanks for this one Duggo. My first thought was WOW they actually respected the entertainers, and maybe had lost a bunch of subscriptions again and they said "wait a minute here". Then, reading Helios' post, the real reason for putting this off is made evident:
"those actually playing the profession for reasons other than easy advancement via respec do not wish to participate in combat directly."
That's what they wouldn't allow right there. Easy advancement through respec. Lots of posts on the entertainer boards asking for afk macros, hmmm, the entertainer community is in favor of at the keyboard play...Who are these imposters?
Score one for nobody.
Athela
That scoreboard is innacurate. The real numbers are these:
SOE/LA: 342 Non-Combatant Players: -3
NGE Refugee.
Am I the only one who thinks it is just too bugged to push? That it didn't work, and they're not pushing it because it causes more problems than it fixed?
They never do things out of the kindness of their hearts or because the community asks for it.

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

They won because at least SOE has acknowledged what me and others have been saying for a long time. That professions like Entertainer and Crafters are chosen by people that actually want to be Entertainers and Crafters. They are tedious professions that can be considered "labours of love". They are not for everyone. But the people that choose to be an entertainer or a crafter WANT TO BE AN ENTERTAINER OR A CRAFTER, not a combatant.
I was a weaponsmith for 2 years. I never gave a rat's ass about Jedi or any other combat profession. I tool up swordsman because I wanted to go with my guilds on their hunts, but I would've gladly dropped it (and I did a couple of times) for crafting. I suspect most crafters and entertainers are the same. The "I got no content for your profession, so I'm forcing you into another one" solution doesn't quite cut it anymore. It's so obvious that SOE has lost SO MANY SUBSCRIPTIONS that they are actually worried about stepping on more toes.

And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
Maybe I ain't seeing how this helps entertainers, but they need something, don't they?
I mean how much can you segregate these characters from anything remotely compelling and still have them subscribe for another month on TH's promises alone?
I don't think combat abilities and CL ever were intended to replace entertainer content. They were intended to give those who played their characters something so they could wait it out.
Now they don't have that anymore. They don't have new content either. They have a $15 bill to pay each month for less of a game than what they had before.

The thing is though, they weren't being forced into another profession. This would have given them the ability to go out and do combat quests IF they wanted to. If they didn't then they'd still have the ability to carry on as normal, just with a 90 next to their name instead of a 1. Would have also given them the ability to use armour and weapons in their shows as well...

You miss the point my friend. I didn't say force as in "change or respec to another profession". I meant it as "Hey! I got no content for you, and I don't plan to put any, so here... Have someone else's!"

Yeah...and now they get nothing. No, it wasn't ideal (and even the Devs said that when it was announced) but isn't something better then nothing?

The whole combat re-org was lame and ill-concieved. They pushed it out before it was ready. It killed Entertainers the most, but basically eradicated every profession.
Going pre-cu won't help this game either.
It was silly, and short sighted to say well we can not think of even one small non-combat thing to do for you so here is a gun.
seriously how hard would it have been to put in some quests that had them doing a tour of cantinas? a quest to form a group and do group perfomances?
crafting quests where you had to scrounge stuff from the bizzaar or radom npc in variouis cities across the galaxies to make somethign for a nice reward (credits/faction/or an ingame item to resell that was GOOD)
Honestly there is no reason NOT to have quests for the ents and crafters that never take them out of a city. then if you did that you would not have them getting attacked by the local wildlife.
LOL qfe! except...... stuff not working never stopped them before It must ahve been extremely borked for them to not put it in.
For the Horde!

Yeah, and guess what would have happened then? Everyone asking "Where's our profession specific quests?"
At the end of the day, the majority of the players are combatants. It's only natural to assume that content for those professions are going to be come first. I'm not saying non-combatants are unimportant (I spend alot of my in-game time as one) but it makes sense to deal with the issues surrounding the majority first.
Obraik you completely miss the point.
the devs were going to give the ents something in this patch. but instead of giving them something that would be appropriate to them they tried to havd them a gun?
from your position (as i understand it), if the majority have guns then the only content that a ent should get is a gun?
I looked at the high level road map and man i do nto see a single major publish for ents. But i guess that is because they are not a combat class.

They've had almost 3 years now.

They can explain it away any way they want. But, given their penchant for downright lies, my bet is that they couldn't get things to work at all, let alone make anybody happy with it.
We already know they don't care if the players like it or not. They've shown that repeatedly.
This action really makes me worry about the future of Entertainers. With Chris Cao's words last week, SOE's habit of lying and the fact that they have RARELY respected the customers' wishes in the past I'm worried that they will now just get rid of Entertainers completely. This just gives them more time to let those of us who are bored and tired of paying subscription fees time to quit.
I think any Entertainer out there that believes they are actually going to give us our own content at some point is very naive. I had a troupe of entertainers (I like to make videos) that were all Masters before the NGE hit and have been cancelled. With the combat/level 90 respec ability that was coming in Publish 28 I was looking at re-subbing to try some of the other professions (which I think is only FAIR because I leveled my character to master like everyone else). Now they will just lie dormant while I continue to try to find another game.
Regards,
Aunti
This is EXACTLY what will happen. They'll get rid of Entertainers, add their abilities to all professions & call it a content addition for all. They'll say they're giving Ent's more exciting content options with combat, and that they're adding exciting Entertaining options for all combat professions.
This is EXTREAMLY easy for them to do, just type /skillsrespec to see the current joke of abilities, and ho easy it would be to change these things around.
It will happen, and soon. Something similar will probably happen for Traders too, although that's a bit more complicated.
The only thing keeping them from doing it is the perception of removing a profession, so I'd expect they would try to add some new profession at the same time.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
