I think Mythic has a pretty good track record with DAoC.

Think about it.  DAoC has more types of servers with fundamentally different gameplay than anything else on the market.  Why would thy have everything from hardcore PvP servers to total PvE servers, and have main servers that give you your choice of ToA and buffbots or not?  The only reason I can think of is that they listen to their players, and they actually are interested in catering to as many different types of users as possibble with the resources they have.

All the developers of these games say they want to do that.  But look at what they actually do.  If you've played a lot of MMORPGs you'll know that Mythic actually spends an unusual amount of time and effort trying to gather feedback from their community, and actually implementing popular suggestions.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

Hehe I actually think mythic listens to thier player base TOO much. I myself like TOA and stuff, and before it came out, there were lots of people asking for raid type content and cooler items (hey, who isnt into giant glowy axes). Then when they realized they actually had to work at this content to succeed and started whining about it.

I never remember anyone every asking for Raid content on my server.  There might have been some, I just never talked to them.  Most of us came from EQ, we knew how horrible raid is.  We like the Dragon raids and the occasional Galla raid, but those weren't the types of raids you get with ToA.  ToA is massive amount of raid content.  Everytime I think of that expansion I have to wonder if the person who designed it ever got a job again.  It is the single worst expansion of any game I can think of at the moment.

With that said, the problems with ToA for me, was not the concept, but the implementation of the content.  The description of the expansion and even what was on the box made me think I was getting something far different thatn what the expansion turned out to be.  It seemed more like a story driven game like you find in single player RPG.  It seemed as though the content would be adjusted to the size of your group.  It make it seem like much of the content was single/group.  It made it seem as though there were multiple ways to achieve your goals.  It made it seem as though it would be this wonderful world of exploring and discovery.

What we got with ToA was EQ.  It was a long grind.  Most of the content is raid conent.  You had to go in order.  At first you actually had to go figure out how to do things and what these cryptic tasks were.  Then the artifacts became all the rage.  It destroyed crafting and the economy.  Grinding through ML and artifact levels simply sucked.
