I think Microsoft milked all the money they could out of it and is now getting rid of it in preperation for Mythica.

I think it will get better under Turbine's management.  They created the game, and they know where they want it to go.  Microsoft only tied their hands these past four years.  Turbine is already making many changes that they were held back from doing in the past.  Heck, they've already announced an expansion pack!  I think it will be good for AC in the long run. *fingers crossed*
