Voice chat? A must or optional?

EffectEffect Member UncommonPosts: 949

I've misplaced my mic and really am in no mood to try and find it after being out all day. Still haven't installed or opened the game but the voice chat in the game is what I have a question about. Is it needed? Are people expecting other players to have it? Or is it really completely optional and people use normal in game typing/chat like other MMORPGs?

I'll be honest as well. There are a LOT of times where I'm playing a mmorpg I'm listening to TV or music or talking with parents, sister, friends, or simply it's late and other people in the house are sleeping. Sound travels really well. Just how are people about others not using it? Are they cool about, do they get anal about it, or just get down right nasty and rude?

I can foresee myself just simply leaving certain groups if a person gets nasty about me not using it or I asking that they type in the actual chat since my sound is low. It's not like a headset was included in the game and I really don't see myself going out to buy a headset for the game just to make other player happy. Not on top of the box price and monthly fee if I start playing.

People usually don't care if you talk or not, as long as you have it set where you can hear them talking.

As far as not having it on to hear them.....Some people are ok with that, some aren't.  Most people aren't fond of it (Due to the slower reaction time on typing when you're walking up to a trap etc.) but will live with you having it off.  Some may remove you from the group.  If you don't want to use voice chat, the best thing to do is to tell people in your LFG notes.

Unless your the party rogue.  The ability to call "Trap!" over VC is invaluable.

I agree with a previous poster that you need to put "no mic" in your LFG comments.

People that use voice chat a lot don't often bother to read the chat
box. Or, they've got the chat box hidden and are displaying the combat
log instead. Just be aware that your chat questions/comments may go
    unanswered.

LoL its funny...people have so many excuses why they dont want to use voice chat...cant find it...or broke mic...or someone is sleeping and cant make noise...
Youll be fine without one, but if you want to fully appreciate the gameplay think about finding it..or getting a headset...it makes things much easier, you can play in real time and not have to stop to type all the time..
