If only they would actually start accepting people into the US beta, then I could finally get some answers. I hope EQ2 beta starts soon, too. I doubt it, though. Seems like they are taking their sweet old time with that game. By releasing Gates of Discord they are just buying themselves a couple more months.
::Yordo:: EQ2, UXO, Lineage 2, KO, Guild Wars, City of Heroes
The Everquest 2 Team and The Everquest Live Team are two completly different teams. Remember this, the EQ engine is complete so making expansions is really easy for them now, its all based on easy editors now. Why do you think they release about 2+ expansions per year now...
I expect EQ2 beta to begin about spring/summer(early). I hope the character models textures seriously improve, they currently look like they are made out of rubber or plastic... But I have high hopes for EQ, probably higher then Lineage 2... but thats mainly bias thanks to my 5 years of experiance with the original...
I really hope the two games cant be compared since I heard EQ 2 is all about fighting AI mobs with a grouping requirment.
I heard soloing and PvP is a big part of Lineage 2 so hopefully that will hold true and the two games really cant be compared since they are quite different in that case.
I've played EQ and I currently play Lineage 2, the games are far from the same. With what I have read about EQ2, the games really have no comparing to each other except that fact that they are both part of the three most anticipated titles for this year (WoW being in there to make three).
It would be like comparing Ultima Online to Lineage 1, they both were point and click and birds eye view based, similarities don't go much deeper then that.
Unless EQ2 completely ruins the whole EQ line by being incredibly horrible (don't laugh, AC2 looked so awesome compared to AC, then on release it was just a really rotten game and was nothing compared to the original) both games with do well, they will just be drawing different crowds.
I've played enough of Lineage 2 to know that the game will be a hit; I have seven characters, with the lowest character being level 22. The world is just fun to run around and look at, the villages, camps, there is an area where an old prison used to be that is now over run but ghost and demons, giant ant hills that you can traverse like a dungeon, magical towers floating in the middle of an abyss. I'll spend a good hour each time I play just taking screen shots, the moon setting over a giant lake, or a waterfall pouring out into a pond covering the entrance to a giant cave. As you walk over the landscape in lineage 2 it is obvious that the creators where giving a large budget to create the world and monster they wanted to and it reflects greatly on the enjoyment of the game.
I currently have no reason to doubt that EQ2 will be any different as far as having a large budget and having a great immersive world that is just fun to be in, unless EQ2 just completely destroys the EQ line, both games will be putting standards on upcoming mmorpgs that try to follow in there wake.

I thought I would look at EQ2 a bit closer, I wish I hadn't. For those that think EQ2 has better graphics then L2... man, please post a link to the site that you are looking at. The world looks nice and pretty... but good lord are the models ugly as all hell. Reminds me of a really cheap CGI Saturday morning cartoon. I read that they were going for realism... I'm not quite sure where the realism in plastic looking dolls running around in a rich environment is. Is skin normally that shinny with hair that looks like a safety helmet? I bet it cost a pretty penny to make it look that crappy too...
Wow.
Well, lets hear from those that disagree.

Since L2 comes out first I plan to definitely give that a go, hopefully I'll be in beta soon.
If for some reason I don't like L2, I'll give EQ2 a shot. I enjoyed EQ and expect both games to be top of the line.
