It could have 5 million and it would still be yapping, nonsensical, goofy anime-type crap to me that I wouldn't play if ya paid me. But at least it gives the anime-nuts a place to congregate, so hopefully I'll run into less of them in the games I play. This is FFXI's meaningful contribution to my life.

I have a really hard time accepting the numbers of MMOGs that have a strong presence in the Asia market. The way they track accounts and players is very different from the way most American MMOGs track numbers.

Nonetheless, it's not surprising this game would hit some high numbers. The question will be, how long can they keep it?

 I'm not going to cause any arguments, but i'm at level 13 and i still don't understand whats bad about this game. Mostdays i have a blast playing it. Maybe it's something bad when you hit a higher level.....

There is nothing wrong with the game. I bought it and
played for it's free month.

Unfortunately the combat is WAYYYYY to slow pased
for me and can not enjoy it to the full extent of the
game.

But it's defenitely worth a try!!!

Note that it doesnt acctually say ffxi has 500,000 people it says "Square Enix USA has today announced that its PlayOnline service now has more than 500,000 registered users" What other games have the got? read the rest of it n just says ffxi played a large part of that 500,000.

as far as i know, they have no other games.

well i just checked their japanese site (i know their english one doesnt have any other games), although i dont know japanese, i only found ffxi and tetramaster(which requires ffxi to play) and i also found one other game jang, but its only like some kind of board game with tiles (like dominos or mahjong or something).
