Sorry, but this is really just a waste of time. The company had a surge of player subscriptions after moving to Renaissance. Is there really a reason they'd want to undo those changes in order to appease a small minority of players who would enjoy the "old" UO?

UO was in its greatest stages in the beginning, ever since then its has been a steady decline.

ps, to the person who posted above.  If you don't agree with the petition then don't post in it or speak about how its gonna fail.. yap  yap yap.  Doing something like this is atleast doing something, rather then just sitting around.  Because, which recent MMORPGs have shown, its the loudest idiot who wins.

I'll do as I please, and I'll gladly point out the futility of the action.  The fist-pounding demands of unrealistic expectations needs needs some objectivity from time to time to steer its course back in a more fruitful direction.

I find the "loudest idiot" comment, by the way, to be wholly ironic.  At least, if you inteded it to mean what I think you meant...

No money means users don't have a game to play at all.  This isn't rocket science, folks.

Obviously this petition may not work, but we are trying and that's all that matters. This may be the beginning of an even bigger petition and who knows, maybe EA Games will decide to make a little extra side cash and release the Pre-UO:Rennaisance game on a seperate CD all together. If they do, maybe they will get a lot of old UOer's back that are still playing UO, and the players that play player run shards now, maybe they will want to create it to stop those who are making or playing player run shards. Who knows, have faith. Geeze.

*Edit*-Not that it matters to EA that they would have people switch accounts over to a new Pre-UO:Rennaisance if they already play the current UO.

Although I'm all for a Pre UO:R server, EA has stated numerous times that it would be impossible to revert to Pre UO:R because they just don't have the code anymore.

I don't have access to the official UO forums. However, I did find some posts by the UO production team members regarding this matter. All of these posts were posted on the official UO boards and have been saved on uo.stratics.com.

On the MyUO Discussion Boards, Gregwolfe (Online Community Coordinator) explained why there will be no pre-UO:R shard created. Some players thought that OSI was reconsidering creating a pre-UO:R shard because Greywolfe had asked about what people enjoyed in-game prior to UO:R. Again, there will be no pre-UO:R shard.

Boy, do I know how to open the floodgates or what? :P In my Daily Hot Topic for 10-15-2002 I asked what people thought about game play prior to Ultima Online: Renaissance. It seemed like a good question. It was timely, since a lot of players had been talking about it recently on the forums. It was a topic that had also been around for a while. Best of all, the question was about the game-play in general AND I had stated pretty specifically that it was not our intent to even consider creating a pre-UO:R shard. I thought I was pretty covered on all bases.

Unfortunately, some posters have taken my question to mean that we're considering creating such a shard, protestations to the contrary not withstanding. Although it's fine to discuss the merits of pre-UO:R play on the Discussions board, please understand that there is no intention on our parts to create a new shard with the old rule set. It would not be possible, at this juncture, to do so. Too much time has progressed from those days, with too many bug fixes and too many changes for us to create such a shard.

I hope that this clarifies the situation a bit--I am sorry if I misled you in any way. Thanks!

    Greywolfe later added……

From this point in time ("this juncture") forward (and from this point in time backward, for that matter, to be certain that those of you with time machines don't try this) there is no possibility of there ever being a pre-UO:R shard. Honest!

    Here is another one.

On the MyUO Discussion Boards, Cynthe (Community Manager, ORIGIN Systems) stated again that there will be no pre-UO:R shard.

This is actually one we've answered quite a few times - I'm afraid a pre-UOR shard is not going to happen.

I'm sure that there are more but I'm just too lazy to look. As I've stated above all of this information is readily available of uo.stratics.com. All I did was search for UO:R in the "Search for News" portion of their website.

    Hope this answered your question.

thats bs...they have been doing expansions from the origianl for years...you cannot build or add something to the original without having the original code.  I mean come on...what sort of jackass would even toss out old code for anything like that.  It's just their way of saying f off

    ...etc...

There's a pretty big difference between "don't have the code anymore" and "progressed too far".

Saying they don't have the code is something like Chevrolet saying they lost the blueprints to a Corvette and can't make it any more. Saying they will not make a '67 Chevy because the technology has advanced too far is simply a matter of choice.

Pre-Renaissance code appeals to a much smaller playerbase than the Renaissance code does. That is evidenced by their subscription levels before and after Renaissance, and is made more poignant by the fact that Renaissance achived peak numbers when EQ, AC, and AO were all availabe as alternatives. Again, why on earth would EA decide to shift gears and switch back to a model that evidenced less activity and thus less subscriptions?
