I don't know if it's a WoW Killer or not. I think it's safe to assume that the core WoW players (Dare I say fanbois?) will see it as a ripoff and stick with Blizzard.
Personally, for me (since WoW is dead to me already) it is.
For the first time I'm excited about PvP. I'm a typical carebear (God I hate that term) and prefer to explore, craft, do some adventuring with friends and just ignore PvP.
I don't think we can call it a "successor" as it has a completely different focus.
But I can easily see the two of them living side-by-side. Play Warhammer Online for a more conflict oriented experience and play WoW for a more PvE focused one.
That being said, i look forward to see what Mythic will pull it off, the preview was great reading and all sounded good.... but for that 4 classes for race thing??
uh? that sounded a bit limiting... don't you think? Where the "SWG-like" career-based system went? scrapped?
Plus... no slayers for dwarves??? AAAAH!!!! TRAGEDY!!!! ... no.. not really
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
out Warhammer as well. I know Mythic had a mean nerf bat and all, but
you cant beat the pvp in DAoC. Hopefully, they will get the pvp right.

starting a new journey may not be so hard,
or maybe it has already begun.
There are many worlds,
but they share the same sky --- one sky, one destiny.

Concerning the classes, you have 6 races, 4 classes for each race, plus each race within a faction can adventure/quest in the zones of the other races within their faction, wich will add to diversity when grouping.
Along with vanguard, WAR is the mmorpg im most exited about, but for diferent reasons tho . ^^
All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
I might sound crazy... but I think Lord of the rings online is going to suceed it. I mean same as WoW people already knew it would be interesting before buying it, only problem with it is theyre sticking to good side only- no bad side.
I mean, for the kids who watch TV I bet they've watched LoTR before and played it on PS, war of the rings, tactics and battle for middle earth
and for those 50 year olds who read LoTR in their 30s might wanna play
In my latest issue of PC Gamer, the preview states that it has obvious similarities to WoW, and that the devs know this and think it isn't such a bad thing. I don't think it's a bad thing either, for Mythic. Just look at Blizzards subscriptions for WoW.
For me, I am looking for something a little more original, though. I am going to pass on WAR. It looks good, though.
It's amazing really what a few pictures of green orcs can do...
Warhammer Online may well be the answer for many players that are looking for the PvP that Blizzard promised for WoW but never implemented, a less gear centric game with actual world PvP and where the conflict is between factions and not just in competing within your own faction. It may also draw a lot of people tired of doing the 1-59 (or 1-69 depending on if Blizzard manages to speed the xpack along) with char after char and looking for something else but it's not the only game out there showing promise on this score.
If you look at the pictures released so far (not just the orcs) you'll find that the game has similarities to WoW, DAOC and a number of other MMO's on the market today, there is however a very distinct Warhammer feel to it easily recognized by those of us that have been playing various Warhammer table top, rpgs etc. since the 80's and I for ones look forward to seeing what will be released at E3 in the form of trailers and suchlike
As for the game itself we'll have to see what the beta brings, if I can't get in I'm pretty sure I'll have friends in there that know what I like and can tell me if this is the next game for me and wife to enjoy for a few years...
The Warcraft world has always been 'Warhammer-lite' as far as I'm concerned, so WoW was just a temporary stand in until a proper Warhammer RPG was released. Even if I was still having tons of fun with World of Warcraft, I'd be dropping it for this (barring huge flaws in the gameplay).
I'm really worried, though, that it will actually be a well-made and fun game. If that's the case, my job will be seriously threatened, and marriage as well (unless the elf character models are 'pretty and shiny' and she decides to switch over from WoW as well).
edit: Oh, I also don't think this will be WoW's successor. It doesn't look like it'll have the kind of high-end raid content many WoW players enjoy, and the competitive PvP-oriented (or support of PvP) atmosphere will most likely not appeal to many. Also, players who enjoy WoW as a 'pretty chatroom' may not appreciate the Warhammer presentation as much.
The PC Gamer article was pretty cool as well.
The graphic are similar, which is good imo. My primary concerns are game mechanics and 'fun factor'. Warhammer Online is definitely making my list of games to keep an eye on.
As for a successor, I'm not sure. Who knows what WoW will be by the time WO is released.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
No, warhammer online is gonna be a very RvR centric game. If you read the preview posted right today here on the site, it is evident the Devs are going that route.
Tymora, the only similarities with WoW that WAR might have (beside a "W" in the name and fact they are both fantasy games) is in the graphics. the rest is all different, i dunno where PC Gamer got their stuff, but good chance is they were speaking of the graphics alone.

Despite what people might say about Warhammer (No matter if you play
WoW now or not, your still going to try this game out). I would say about
80% of WoW customer base will try Warhammer out.
I will be one of the 80% and thats for sure, being a old Warhammer Role
Player.
Even if it was 50% of the customer base of WoW, this game is going to sell
very well.
And shayde, you the da man! Catapults, Siege Weapons! Here we Come!
I think by the time Warhammer comes out 2007 people will be quite sick of WoW and it wouldn't surprise me if Warhammer had more subscribers eventually.
Also to the comment about Warhammer only having 4 classes per race - thats a good thing!! DAoC has waay too many classes with abilities that are far too limited per class! The classes are very creative but too limited IMHO.
Hell.. It's not like you can do ANYTHING fantasy and not follow it back to Tolkein. This whole genre steals from each other like mad.
But the Orks. Those are really GW's individuality. Sure, everyone had orcs, but the rich vibrant everything that is Ork.. truly unique to Warhammer.
You can't swing a dead goblin without hitting another cookie-cutter
fantasy game. What made WoW stand out WASN'T it's setting... it was
that it was a WELL MADE and CONTENT RICH game that actually WORKED
*cough* $OE *cough*.
Still playing Chaos. Blood for the Blood God & all.

WoW's success isn't about being well made or content rich, never has been. Look at hunter talents at release, and the quiver bugs. How many times has MS been changed? WoW is based and about being a cookie cutter, its appeal somehow lies within this need that people have to be the best of a very specific set or rules. It is like junior high all over again. WoW did well because they had promised things that other games lacked, but never delivered. Phantasy Star will most likely take a fair chunk of the WoW market and various other games will chip away at it too.
WoW BGs have been buddy and unbalanced since they were added, and adding them eliminated all the war from "Warcraft". You can't siege anything, heck you can't even really kill the auction house tellers anymore, which was the only thing that had ever started confilcts in the cities, although it was kinda annoying at times.
I find it amazing that one of the best run MMOs (EvE) was published by the same company as one of the worst.
I don't think it will draw the crowds that WoW draws, but it will be a successful and very very good game. You don't have to draw billions to be a great game.

I live to fight, and fight to live.
the problem is that, at least by my perceptions, we had a "the game has lots of professions, you can get stuff from one alone, or specialize some, then you can upgrade yourself going from "soldier" to "knight" and then who knows, also, different race have different advanced classes, so Imperial might have Reiksguard knights while Elf have Swordmasters and Dragon princes and so on".
Now we have "you got 4 classes per race". period.
I suppose maybe I was just reading too much in the limited dev's comments we have at this point, but you can betcha that High Elves will have 3 scholar and 1 warrior class. so there it goes to have Phoenix guards, swordmasters, silver helms, dragon princes, the shadow guard and so on.
Maybe they can still be there, the fact is we do not know but I'm left confused from the transition "somewhat open career system" ------> "4 classes for each race".
Is it the same thing said in different way? is it completely different thing? Is the moon blue? do donkeys fly? What is the meaning of life? 42?

So all in all WAR is everything WoW was supposed to be???? O.o

Never say never..
Thanks to World of Warcraft, it has made MMORPG very popular.
Remember, there is always someone better than you and you can't be King of the Mountain forever. Theres always that certain one that will get to you and knock you down.
Whether it be Warhammer or another mmorpg, WoW had it days, wait till the new kid in town arrives.
Space Invaders was a milestone game, then came Pac Man, so much for Space in Vaders who?
or how about
Street Fighter was a milestone game, then came Mortal Kombat and so on..
Bama.. your missing my point.. So what your saying, there will NEVER be another MMORPG like World of Warcraft to draw as many customers as World of Warcraft did?
A Lifetime is a long time, but I dig your opinion, WoW wont be the last MMORPG to reach 5 million subscribers though, I will gurantee that.
As I stated, if it is'nt Warhammer, it may be something else. World of Warcraft can only last for so long till its outdated and replaced by something much superior.
For all I know, the next super hit MMORPG might be called Monkey Balls, but who knows..
