I am long time member of MMORPG.com and some know me as very harsh critic of everything.
Well that is kind of true ...
But what really amazes me , is that for every bad critic of a certain product or product feature ( be it game or a soft drink ) - you will get mass of people valiantly defending this product.
Although most of time the critic was well earned and deserved - this people will shoot you with kind of preset type of reactions : "If you dont like it , dont buy it" , "They worked so hard on this , and you are criticising" ... etc
So basically there are people feeling great urge to defend a product that just a head of its PR earns in one month your yearly pay. Thats why i call them "The free lawyers" because companies get them as a perk
And why do they do it.
In my opinion. This behavior is typical for American continent , and society that was subliminaly comercially brainwashed for decades. I think somehow they tought them not only not to complain about bad things, but to defend them - as if the product is something they made themselves...
Amazing , dont you think ?

wow lol iv never really looked at it that way

Its just people defending what they love. It happens everywhere and with all sorts of things. From sports teams to cars. People the world over defend what they love because when your insulting something they love, they feel your insulting them.
When it comes to MMOs or computer games you also have the "fool" factor to add to it. There are several games out now that truly stink in the majority's opinion. I think the "fanbois" also know this. So they fight like mad to support the game for fear of looking like a fool. You can see this when the fan gets more and more irate. Even outright attacking people on forums and such for even the most minor critique. Basically they are getting deeper and deeper in the "fool" factor. Sad part is they arent fools. But they think they would be if they admitted to playing a game others hate.

There were some people that actually dared to say something about it , but i think their CD's , DVD's and books were banned in several USA states.
Now please let me enjoy my freedom fries

Wow Leesus, you really went out on a limb and put the chainsaw in it...
One nasty fall there. Not the right person to tell others to get a clue...
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
sunflame.
"Fear not death; for the sooner we die, the longer shall we be immortal."
true, but then every game and product out there also get a legion of equally rabid "Hateboys" that make their goal in life to spout (usually) nonsense and falsity to bring down game XXXX. They can be quite seriously commited to their destiny quite much too.
So i would say the two things kinda balance themselves out... but how we are gonna call these people? "Free shot in the foot"?
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
Haha. Better get your facts straight. No books, CD/DvD's were ever banned that opposed the republican party and or Bush.
If you're going to make asinine statements about America, at least have the facts straight.
Overall though, your ignorance seems to be fueled by some kind of misfound xenophobia against the US, with your statements being completely unfounded.
So my piece of advice for the day: If you're going to rag on a country, at least make sure there is a bit of ground to support your brazen claims.
I am not trying to turn this to political debate. I only said that mayority of "free lawyers" happen to come from American continent. But Europe , Australia ...etc has good share of them too.
Actually what really fueled me to write this is the "Oblivion incident" that is happening right now. Namely Bethesda is selling its first mod - Armor for horses - at price of 2.50$
Now you will say it is not much. And it is true.
But the whole game costs 50$ and it has 1000 times more content than one single armor for horse , making its price of 2.50$ bit unproportional.
Actually real debate is about impact of this new trend. Will the game companies now sell let say barren RPG and let you pay for NPC-s ?! Is this the future?
Now Oblivion and other rpg forums are buzzing about this. And i just find it funny how lot of people try to defend Bethesda case.
Are they actually inviting the fact they are going to pay for game patches now? Something that used to be free until now? And what do they think are they improving with their lawyering.
1.Defending a company that doesnt need defence.
2.Encouraging companies to rise the prices and ask for more payments.
3.Justifying half finished products that should not be released in that state.
Instead of demanding better quality , and fair buisness.

Almost every post is better if it doesn't end up pointing at a huge and diverse group containing several individuals that have due cause to feel offended by its content. But that doesn't mean that a post that has this one flaw is completely flawed.
There are people who say things that are absolutely untrue, and if they're the only ones who know why they do it - who could expect ever to get a straight answer? Maybe it is the fool factor. Maybe it is an ill will towards gamers. Maybe it is something else.
Heck, they may even be a diverse group with bunch of different reasons for doing what they do. (And there could be people who are not members of this group, but believe themselves to be, because although they honestly like the game they talk about - which means they're not among the free liwyars - they know that other people don't.)
Besides, I think the specific group the poster was referring to (however inaccurately it might possibly have been) held the following common traits:
Of course, one who is not inside another person's mind may occasionally find it hard to discern...
The future: Adellion
Common flaw in MMORPGs: The ability to die casually
Advantages of Adellion: Dynamic world (affected by its inhabitants)
Player-driven world (beasts won't be an endless supply of mighty swords, gold will come from mines, not dragonly dens)
Player-driven world (Leadership is the privilege of a player, not an npc)
The defender will say it wasn't; or that the defence was well earned and deserved. Possibly even both.
Now, if you're saying that junk like "If you don't like don't buy it," or "They worked hard, blah blah..." (or the other refrain, "If you think it's so easy let's see you do it") are empty and meaningless, then I would agree. But from where I'm standing, you just seem to be offering empty statements implying people don't have the right to defend what they like - essentially the analog to those other empty statements saying people shouldn't criticize what they don't like.
Freedom of speach cuts both ways.

There was that girl band who came out and publicly spoke against the Iraq war right at the beginning and their record company dropped them and the radio and TV stations banned their songs and videos.
It's by no means just America, Russia and China are the same. (Not that I imagine any of those three would appreciate the comparison). Big federations require tighter controls to function. Seperatism being what it is, the larger the nation the more dangerous dissent is.

Essentially I feel that once people have spent the money they wish to feel good about it. The look at all the reasons why it was smart to do so in order to reinforce the cleverness of their decisions.
I also feel that people tend to react emotionally when challeneged. I don't feel that critics do so out of "hate" (although some do), but mainly out of critique or analysis.
Those that do cricique from "hate" usually get abusive when challenged also. I feel the personal attacks are usually a substitute for lack of considered argument. When some one has successfully countered all your arguments being rude to them is the only means of self justification left.
If you do not wish to concede the points or are unwilling or unable to successfully counter their points further what other options are left to you.

In normal daily life when you push an idiot into this kind of a corner, without leaving him face saving room to get out of it, if he is larger than you, he smashes your face in.
Forcing people to confront their moronacy is neither polite nor smart. It's the kind of thing you only ever do on the internet with people you don't know and will never meet.
The Dixie Chicks, yeah. The thing is, their Record Company dropped them. The TV and Radio stations stopped playing them. As I recall though, that was because people were boycotting and writing the TV and Radio stations that were playing the Dixie Chicks. As far as I know, there wasn't anything state-sponsored in that. It was the choice of the patrons of the Radio and TV stations and the executives of those entities.
I think that is moot, though. It seems really silly to look for a cultural explanation in the absence of real information. Maybe its just that the bulk of the English speaking market is from the United States? Therefore, a greater number of English-speaking people that bought extra Oblivion horses are turning up? I'm not sure about that, but it is possible.
Secondly, I don't get what the big deal is. So what if Oblivion is tacking on an extra charge for a game update? If they charge for bug fixes, I'd say that that would be irresponsible.
well then hear this, i don't know the game, nor the series, and i did not and will not buy it, and i don't even care or think about it.
i have no idea why people are so exaggerating the issue, man, if you don't like a game then don't play it, it doesn't get any simple, why do people make a huge issue of this? it's a game, i swear, a game, it has absolutely no impact on your life, if not, then bad impact.
just look at GTO, oh my client killed someone because he played GTO, WHO BUYS THAT CRAP? making an execuse such as this because of a game, what kind of lowliness is this? and what? they don't blame the developers of this game, they blame the people who play the game, oh if you buy this game we'll sue you, again WHO BUYS THAT CRAP?
man this is so miserable and pathetic, yet people continue to play those games, and developers continue to make crappy games, and what have been done?
NOTHING. just few words here and there which get forgotten the next day.
lmfao leesus is an idiot... did u know the ONLY REASON bush went into iraq is to get revenge for his dad for what happened in desert storm. Also there was some guy that had proof that iraq had no "WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION"" because africa is where all the uranium for these weapons are and soemone leaked info that africa never sold any to iraq and bush told everyone the dude who went to africa's wife is a spy so that people would kill her because he leaked the info and now their trying to go all hush on it..
Also the exucutiver branch of the US is illegally wiretapping pplz phone conversations without congressional approval and either way since most congress is republican they'll prolly agree with bush anywayz...
so now ur gon tell me america doesnt stop ppl from showing tapes??? what this guy said is true some statez did ban many tapez on this same kind of info.
