Nope i wouldn't come back because at the end of the day its still going to be run by and developed by the same company who have shown their incompetence at being able make and run games. The fact that they needed to overhaul it twice is just an example of this and the fact that 3 years after the games release it's still in beta is another, the fact that they disregarded their own playerbase when pushing the NGE and lied to everyone who played the game is another the list can go on.
The only thing i have to thank SOE for is that i made 1 thousand pounds selling my account on ebay! So at least i got the money back that I wasted playing this heap of shizzle for 2 1/2 years. The one thing I learnt from this experience was I will never play another game that SOE is involved in.

Depends where the server is, thats the beauty of ununified planet, copyright laws aren't universal. And the servers can only cater to maybe a couple of hundred(?), so Lucas won't give a crap. Especially as the service will no doubt be better than SOE's. If Lucas arts want a Pre CU or even Pre NGE server they'd best damn well make one.

They've also said so many things that they've backtracked of (ie. Target Lock, server merges) that I wouldn't be surprised if they backed out of this too.

My guess would be, that SWG is left with no more than 4-8 people, who are responsible for maintainance and development.
Everything else that can be is shared with EQ development department. I base this off the following: - No new art (since CU through NGE) there have been no additions to art. Expansions were developed, but apart from basic design, they added nothing new to base game - Animations: Since combat speed has been increased, they didn't recreate the animations. They simply re-key the existing animation data to new speed. This is why it looks so incredibly poor - Publicly announced merging of EQ and SWG server architecture during CU. - Overall changes between CU and NGE (skill stats were adjusted, new UI skin was made, new specials were defined). This required only changes to values in database.
For comparison: Guild Wars is now publising Chapter Two. The content includes new continent, size and content-wise same as first one, two new classes, about 200 new skills, several completely new armor sets for all (now) 8 classes, completely new sets of weapons, and new world populated with completely new mobs, at least 3 new gameplay styles, and strategic (conquer type) global combat.
This was done by a small, start-up company, in a game with no subscription fees, within exactly 1 year after initial release. During this time, they added new content twice for free.
The difference here is obvious. If a company with 50-odd employees total can provide this much, what could SOE do with (alleged) 70 people dedicated team. SWG is on life support, being milked for what its worth. And I'm being more and more convinced, that they indeed cannot afford to pay someone to even keep the pre-cu servers running.
If I could transfer my old accounts and it was a pre-CU SWG game, I would return immediately, even if it were SOE running the show (heck, I gave them 15$ just to have a look at the CU). It doesn't take much to cancel an account and walk away if they screw with me again.

I wouldn't go back. Pre-cu was great and yada-yada all that, but to start from scratch because they chose to wipe everything, and to go back into that bugridden hell. No thanks.

Then I'll be back.
But to stay, they'll need to instate some GCW, allow smugglers to smuggle, add capital ships, and all those broken promises.
