Best fantasy setting

ManteesMantees Member UncommonPosts: 37

What is the MMORPG with the best traditional fantasy setting for you?

Everquest is by far the best I have tried, with elves living on trees, gnomes busy making mechanical stuff, gods, planes etc.

Are there other good ones?

I think DAOC was good, had the 3 realms which were done rather well.

I hated DAoC's fantasy setting. It was all just trees, nothing interesting. Right now i must say FFXI is the only real good one i have played. It's got tons of enviroments. I assume WoW will be one of the best though.

I don't like DAOC fantasy setting too.

First, the separate realms, makes exploring completely worthless. You have to make chars on 3 different servers to be able to see something different than the usual albion castle or house

A question for rathma. Does the FFXI setting can be considered traditional fantasy?

What I love is the classic D&D world or the Forgotten Realms one, one with elves living in the woods, dark elves underground, groaning bearded dwarven etc :)

The reason is to support the RvR system, if u wanted to make 1 char to see all realms theres the PvP servers.

Lineage 2 has a pretty good fantasy setting... u have Dwarf, Human, Dark Elf, Orc and Elf as playable each with their own unique towns (DE's underground, Elves around the "Mother Tree", Human's on Talking Island, Dwarves up in the snowy mountains and Orcs in sort of a tribal town)...

also u got the riding on dragons and stuff... sum pretty good fantasy stuff

I think Lineage 2 has the best fantasy/tolkien-esqu setting. It has the 5 best know races as playable characters (human/elf/dark elf/dwarf/orc). There are also other well known fantasy characters but those are NPC (example: Ents & Fairies) or monsters (Trolls, Arachnevils, Dragons, Drakes, etc). And ofcourse there are many new fantasy monsters made up. The environment is also this way. You got the towns and places that are already known in the fantasyworld, like: The Elven Mother Tree aka Tree of life, or Dwarven Mines, Dungeons, etc.        But there are also newly thought-of fantasy areas. The towns and castle in Lineage 2 are amazingly done. The Elven Town has that Elfish feeling and human towns are just beautiful. Also the music is very professional. It is made by Bill Brown (he made music for films like: Ali & any given sunday, and for game like: C&C Generals, and Return to castle wolfenstein. The whole Lineage 2 World just fits together as 1 part. Other games often have wrongly scaled models and areas where some monsters or characters just dont fit.

    Some screenshots:

I'd say Lineage 2 has the best fantasy setting by far
