The disappointment started with the car modification before even entering the game. You have very few cookie cutter cars to chose from. Then after you pick one your personalization is very limited. Once you get into the game, the quests are just mindless. The NPCs you talk to are like trying to read  a really boring book. Not what you would expect from a "car game".

But all that jibber-jabber didnt matter. I was able to easly skip past the lenthy and pointless text and do the quests without even listening to what the questgiver was telling me, giving a very unrewarding feeling upon completing them.

I never got into any PVP action. This due to the game being so boring I couldnt bring myself to log back on after a few attempts to find some joy in the game. But if it is as bad as the PvE I did not miss anything. Imagine yourself playing Everquest on wheels. Twisted Metal was much better combat. You could actually aim at targets rather than having target selection and just clicking a button.

Of course this is all mainly just an opinion. But if you give a avid video gamer with plenty of time to kill, a free game(beta), and he cant bare to even log on. There is something wrong...

I would say judging by your post it appears you did not make it much further than the Tutorial?  It takes a little more work than just logging in and choosing a car with a gun.  First, if reading isn't your thing then I will assume you are not at all interested in the backstory or any part of why the races are at war with each other.   Second, the lack of customizable options on your starter car serves a purpose and gives a reason for crafting which is a huge part of the game.  Knowing most of the crafting is done to enhance your car, you should know that customizable options are endless so long as you also know you have to work for them.  Third, an avid FPS gamer is not really an mmorpg gamer.   I would say, it's evident in the first paragraph of your review that this "Car Game" isn't really your cup of tea much less style of game.  Good thing you did not pay for it eh?  heh

The further you make it into the game, the more options are thrown at you. The game is very deep, and an achievers wet dream. lots of loot, and the though the crafting takes some time to get used its, very open and has the ability to make each crafter very diverse.

Give the game more of a chance, you will love it after lvl 10.

I beleive I was lvl 3 when I last longed on. So no I did not make it too far past the tutorial. Of course it takes work once you chose your car and all. But the cars you have to pick from suck. Maybe lvl 30 cars are awesome, but like i said, the cars I had to pick from were very disappointing even for lvl 1 cars.

I wouldnt say reading is or isnt my thing. That is completely beside the point of how freaking long and boring the text they offer to read is.  Also, how unimportant that reading is when you dont even have to read or understand it to complete the quest.

I do love car games, my favorite car games of all time are the Twisted Metal games. I was very excited to start playing this game when I received my Beta confirmation email. Till I actually played it for serveral hours. I love car games, I just dont care for "this" car game. It could have been done much better "imo".

Who says "an avid FPS gamer is not really an mmorpg gamer."  expecially in a car-combat style game. Putting more element of skill into the combat would have made up for so much of the other things I did not like. Speaking of  fps/mmorpgs. Looking very forward to Huxley online. My guess is you might have to retract that comment after it's release.

And finally we completely agree on something. I am so ..... oooooooo glad I didnt fork over my $ for this.

Hmm....basing the game on a narrow minded view and lack of attention span beyond the "click-shoot-click-shoot-spamClickShoot-rinse/repeat" attention deficet commonly found in FPS games is poor view to express.

You do have a valid point with "...how unimportant that reading is when you dont even have to read or understand it to complete the quest" yet I feel you are still missing the jest of it.  As expressing your lack of attention to reading you then complain that there's no reasoning to allow for dialouge that serves no purpose other then clutter.  Would you read the story if there were a key element that benefitted you?

Permitting a player to "dump" the dialouge to enhance a possible motive of instant action with minimal downtime is a good thing.  Allowing for a special "knowledge" of an area or randomized features for those who actually read it _is_ a GREAT thing!

I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with the tutorial and the starter cars. But you don't really start enjoying the game until you reach the high 10s. The grinding doesn't feel like your avarage MMORPG grinding to be honest. Heck, literally the last time I checked my level it was 8, now I'm 23, I hardly noticed it.

Thank you for explaining in better detail what was pretty obvious from your first post.  Sadly, I am sure several people such as yourself have given the same review after spending less than 5 hours and 10 levels in Auto Assault.

I only wish people did not mind pointing out their lack of experience in a game before posting a review.  At least that way, people know up front to expect a review based off of a level 3 opinion and a few hours of play.

  • twogunntwogunn Member Posts: 7

I did not suggest that I played far into this game in my first post. Quite the opposite, this is very "obvious" in my first post. The Cars you  pick from  suck and could have been done MUCH better. The combat sucks and could have been done MUCH better.

I have played every style of game. Mainly mmorpg, most of my pc gaming time has been spent on EQ and WoW . I also of course like fps games, card and billards games. So to throw off my dislike of this game to "a narrow minded view and lack of attention span beyond the "click-shoot-click-shoot-spamClickShoot-rinse/repeat" is a total crock.

The combat, cars and quests all appeared very poor to me. 3 critical elements thats combined can not be looked over by me. You guys go ahead and take some more personal shots at me. If I dont read or maybe I have a severe case of ADD. Maybe eventually you will hit on something that is real. ..until then let me restate..

Well I'm an MMORPG gamer , I hate FPS and I hate WoW and I freaking totally hate this excuse for a game . this is like playing a freaking Pac-Man MMO.  you pick a car and drive aimlessly  until you decimate everything near you.  Instanced games are not True MMO's enough said . The loot and the crafting is cool but Im  more about content and this game is very repetitive. go to point a Kill  these x10  this is  City of heroes with cars . i agree with the " there is no need to read to finish a quest" all you do is follow the freaking arrows and shoot! or talk to the npc . thats it! every quest is done for you. nothing to figure out by yourself here .

again on the good side the crafting is pretty cool  but I bought this game for the action not the crafting.

4.5 is a bit generous isn't it? Kidding.

I didn't care for the game. As the poster above said...repetitive (except I thought COH was a hell of a lot more fun). The only thing I can add from my experience is this has to be one of the worst control schemes I've ever played with. Not sure how to explain it, other than trying to drive anywhere or fighting things was just painful for me. Of course these are more personal preferences than anything else.

In total agreement with you Twogunn AA was down right borring I wish I would purchased the Standard Edition but  not me I had to get the Limited Edition. The only thing that I liked about this game was the Creative Headset packaged in the LE box for what purpose I have no idea. There is no Community to speak of . . Peeps must be too focused on the driving aspect to shout "hey =)" as they drive by at 90 miles per hour ther is no time for a conversation I guess... Even shouting out snide comments gets no reaction from people. The AA Quests are pointless their is no need to read the information given buy the NPC's after the 12th quest  its the same hunt 5 mobs return for experience and a cheeseburger type of reward. There is NO experience loss in this game so you can die all you like, giving NO value to the 7 levels I had to force myself thru, after level four I stopped the autocharge on my PlayNC account. If you want to pay fifteen bucks to drive around go for it.  I simply found AA to be an unfulfilling Sunday drive with a speeding ticket that cost me sixty bucks. Indeed a 4.5 out of 10 hands down.

Complaining that the starter cars suck is like complaining your newbie clothes in EQ are ugly.

Umm... yeah, no shit.  If you started off driving K.I.T.T., there wouldn't be much to work for in this RPG.

Yet those "kill 10 of X monsters" quests in WoW are just oh so fulfilling.

It's a MMORPG - this one actually has the least amount of mindless grinding there is out of any of them due to the vast majority of the xp coming from quests.  If you don't like that style of play, MMORPGs aren't for you.

I feel sorry for all the peoples who dislike Auto-Assault, but IMO the game is extremely nice.

I play during the beta and I plan to play again soon.  It is not on my TOP list, but it is on my 'must play again' list, as soon as I am done with Oblivion.

I can't stand action game or FPS games and I actually enjoy my time in AA during the beta.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and even if many person disagree with me, I think CoV is the closest game to AA on the market, and I actually enjoy CoV.  Now in AA the gameplay is slower, yet still quite fast.  The customisation in look is extremely limited however the customisation in powers is there, a level 3 might not realize this yet, but even just at level 10 you will understand that 2 character are having quite some customisations choices.

I dunno, I merely play it for a week-end during beta...but I am certainly looking forward to play it again, when I am done with Oblivion assuming I don't grab another game before!    I mean, the competition is ferocious out there!

For now Auto-Assault is the next thing I try...but I7 is close by so the hype can reverse...and Heroes of Might and Magic is completely on the top of my must play game, so we will see when I will try it.

Maybe you should start on ground and buy your first car at level 25 or something, that way it would make more car variety since they will be on less levels and gaining them would be some achievement...sound to me that the players get their first car too easily...now of course that mean you have to got an interesting foot game...which I saddly don't think they have...so you start with a car.

No,  I like mmorpg grind loved L2 for that reason I felt like I was achieving something. I wanted that new armor set in L2, and liked reading the quests found in WoW, However in AA I could care less about "The Car" or "The Exp"  it had no VALUE to me, No loss No value. It was like playing a racing game on my XBOX, if you crash just start over. To be honest I just found that reading what the NPC had to say was fruitless in AA. The Quests did not help me in anyway get into the game or get more of a feel for it. I would have liked to have read what the NPC had to say it for its informative value it just did not happen, for me anyway.

Yet another misleading comment from someone who doesn't know anything about AA, yet rushes to bash it. There are hardly any instances in this game. Heck, I'm level 31 and I've only been in one instance, and due to a boss. If you want to chat maybe you should try Yahoo chatrooms and save yourself a 15 bucks subscription from MMOs.

Indeed you are totaly right one could possibably have a better time at a free Yahoo chatroom.  This game gives you no reason, need or desire to speak to anyone while driving,  thus no community.  IMO a good MMO has people, a community much like a "chatroom" a group of people maybe even a Guild or Clan a reason to want to play because you want to chat with your friends. There is no one in the passenger seat of AA might as well just turn up the stereo and drive, . . . . Alone

  • KrytycalKrytycal Member Posts: 520
Britt, there's a team speak-like feature in the game, no need to type when you can actually speak to the other players.

Damn....  Knew there was a reason they threw in some cheap Creative Headset. I guess I'm old school when it comes to a conversation in game... I love TS but is was never used it in total as my only form of communication. Headset always hurt my head after wearing it for more than an hour. I could  never be a Telemarketer I fear.

  • DanjakDanjak Member Posts: 197

Britt raises a valid point about the community from early launch.  It used to be that no one would talk.  I think that may have been a reflection of the low population numbers, however.  Now, my general chat is constantly scrolling with new posts.  People are talking about every thing and anything and enjoying each other's company.  It's a lot of fun.  Plus, the devs just announced some major improvements to facilite grouping so I expect the community to devleop even more because of this.

The community is what you make it.  If you don't ever talk to anyone then you're not going to have many conversations.  As for me, I'm constantly blabbering about one thing or another, usually in clan chat, convoy chat, and general chat all at the same time.  There *is* a vibrant community here, so I think you may have a mistaken impression of the current state of the game.

The headset is actually pretty good.  I've got some nice headphones at home, but I've abandoned them for the headset.  I thought the headset would suck (since it's a throw-in package), but actually sounds good and the mic works well too.

But really, no one in AA relies just on voice as their sole form of communication.  The built-in voicechat only works with convoys/groups, so you still need to type for general, local, clan, and the other various channels.  And, as I mentioned above, people are constantly talking now in these various channels.

Hmmmm,  I may have quit too soon however every MMO startup game I have ever taken a look at has peeps shouting out noob questions about the game. This one was just ............. some more.............. Me saying,... Hello, (to a passer by going 90mph) and some more....... I think a better way to start the game would have been an Easter egg hunt to putting a unique car, "your own" car with personal Bling Bling some spinners a nice plasma turret,  you know nothing over the top, but to start with a leg race would have had peeps talking more getting more involved in the game imo.

I think a major hurdle with the community was the lack of mission sharing.  Grouping was actually a confusing timekill instead of a benefit to the group members due to the lack of direction.  They announced the other day that this was being fixed and that it would be put in ASAP.  Once people see the value of interacting, they tend to interact more which naturally leads to more conversations.  But really, people are already talking so my thoughts on it are academic at this point.  The lack of community was my biggest problem with the game from launch, but my fears about it have been put to rest (and then some).

Also, the vast majority of the people at the start up weren't noobs - they were playing it in beta.  Most people already knew how to play the game, so those types of questions weren't really necessary.  Now that it's been out for a week, I found myself more and more answering such questions, however.  Either word of mouth has spread to bring in people who hadn't played it in beta, or stores are recently getting it back in stock and are selling to new players.  In any event, about once every 30 minutse now I find myself in a /tell exchange with a new player explaining the intricacies of the game mechanics or crafting.  Another reason for the lack of newbie questsions is that the game's missions and tutorial are very thorough, so if you read them, you know exactly what you should be doing.  And lastly, the game is actually similar to WoW, EQ2, etc..... so if you played those, you should already be familiar with how the game works.

  • M1sf1tM1sf1t Member UncommonPosts: 1,583

You contridict yourself. You say that the game is like EQ with wheels but
you like the mindless grind of L2. Also you seem to want ub3r gear at
start up and fail to realize that crafting is in the game for a very
good reason and you have a certian setup at the start of the game for a
very good reason as well. I actually enjoyed the questing system and leveling via questing so the mindless grinds are out of the question for me and this game doesn't have the mindless grind of L2 or EQ2.

Well if it does it sure makes it fun enough not to notice IMHO. Also you don't have to select targets to aim at them. You can hit targets by moving your turret and not selecting a target at all. You can change targets if you select one via the Tab key. NVM all this because it seems you are looking for a whack the mole with pretty graphics MMORPG.

P.S. If you don't like people questioning your opinion I'd suggest you not post it.
