Before you read what I'm about to say, know that I am a proud American citizen. I love my country, despite what reading below may make you believe. I just know that we are by absolutely no means perfect.
I am also NOT trying to say that ALL Americans are like this, but too many are.

There's a lot of people around the world that hate Americans for a lot of different reasons. Bush has a lot to do with it I think, but that is most certainly not the only reason. Americans are fat, lazy, stressed-out, unappreciative, polluting, hypocritical, and we still have a LOT of social problems. I live in Memphis, Tennessee and I can still see racism towards African Americans on a DAILY BASIS. That's sad.
Americans try to say we are the best at basically everything and that we are the greatest country in the world. While pride is good, too much can blind people's eyes from what is actually going on. Our education system is terrible compared to many countries around the world, including some that most Americans would consider "inferior" to ourselves. Much of that could be remedied with higher taxes, but that's another problem. Even though Americans have some of the LOWEST taxes in the world, we still think they are too high. If you ever go to Europe (as I have been privileged to do), just ask anyone about their taxes. They are insanely high by American standards, but look at what they get out of it. Many European countries have a lot of free stuff (like free health care and free COLLEGE. Can you imagine free college in America?), but they wouldn't have it if their taxes weren't as high.
We also tend to stick our nose where it's not our business. If the American government would spend more time trying to fix it's own damn countries problems instead of fixing the rest of the world's, we would be a lot better off. We should NOT be the world police. It's not solely our job to make sure there's peace in the rest of the world, especially not when like I said there are so many problems right here at home. There's nothing wrong with lending aid to other countries, but you shouldn't go to war with one just to change their style of government without a little more approval from the rest of the world.
Not to mention the US is a complete and total hypocrite. Not only do we have huge amounts of nuclear weapons still ready to be used at the push of a button, but we're the ONLY COUNTRY TO ACTUALLY EVER USE THEM IN WAR. Yet Americans seem to think we have divine right to tell other countries they aren't even allowed to building a fucking nuclear power plant.
I could go on and on about things that bug me about this country, but I won't. I don't feel like typing any more.

For America, the old theory of Manifest Destiny worked excellently. And that Doctrine is based on isolationism, backed up with righteous defensive wars. When someone attacks us, whether it be British, French, Natives, or Spanish, we fight back and annex their lands. We dropped that Doctrine at the turn of the 20th century, and where did that get us? Absolutely nowhere, were back at square one, were just about exactly where we were when we dropped the Doctrine of Manifest Destiny.
I think the overall view in the world on americans is "'a thick headed, right-wing, McDonald's loving, anti-Islamic, fundamentalist Christian, intolerant, homophobic idiot." Because thats what your foreign politics look like. And they give you a bad image. And with a image like that you can't expect people to greet you with open arms. To get rid of it you will have to prove them wrong

I have seen many comments from americans that call all Muslims terrorists, on this site too, quite often.
It's kind of the same thing that happened to the people in this article.
If you don't act like you own the world, talk bad about someone who believes in something else than the Bible, call everyone who doesn't agree with you a terrorist and proclaim that the entire outcome of WWII was done by you, you should be fine. And stop acting like you are better in everything is a start too

I think the above posts pretty much support my original post, but ill reply anyways.
The whole world saw the Americans elect Bush...twice. So when Bush does something extremely stupid then it doesn't look good for us. Bush represents the American people. Unfortunately he can barely say nuclear but he feels he's the authority on the subject in this world.
I'm not very knowledgeable on Africa and their policies. I know it's pretty messed up and basically militias rule a lot of the areas. You said policies, I said foreign policies, so i'm just talking about our relationship with everyone else in the world. Clearly it's bad, so all I did was offer a reason.
I don't hate Africans. I didn't say it was right for that woman to be hated. But if you look at America as a whole and look back at our recent history then it's not a surprise why the world hate us. It's not surprising people stereotype other people. If the average person goes into a nasty neighborhood and theirs a black man in a hoody and a white woman in a business suit. Who does the average person ask for directions? It's because people have pre-conceived notions from TV, movies, parents, friends and environment is why things are the way they are.
So theirs a black man with a hoody on TV and you see him bust a cap in some gangster and you see this type of stuff on TV ALL the time. It just gets into your mind and wreaks havoc with what is reality. So now you think most blacks are pot smokin gangsters.
Now you see the retarded president of the USA who even got re-elected starting a war with Iraq to conform with the USA's standards and you see this stuff on TV ALL the time. So it gets in your subconscious and wreaks havoc with what's reality. So now you see a US citizen in your country and what do you do? You hate him! It makes no sense and yet with how the brain works it does at the same time. People get brainwashed with TV, especially with big events like the war.
I suggest doing some reading on "Groupthink" too. Then you will understand more why other countries hate us.

I'm of the persuasion that if we scaled down the government, got them out of the education business altogether, and let the communities take care of that, then things would be a lot better. I don't trust the federal government to take care of anything. The only thing they're needed for in my opinion is to regulate trade and commerce and defend our borders. Both of which they have proven lately to suck at too. Other than that they need to leave us to being us and taking care of us.

50% of Americans are not what you expect them to be.
If another parties candidate got into the debates and was known to the general voters then they would get out and vote for him/her. Look at how many people voted for Ross Perot. He really stirred things up. Then after that election the debate commission (run by the Dems and Republicans) made it tougher for a candidate to be eligible to participate in the pre-election debates.

Agreed, but one of the laws that newton discovered was that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. If you choose to act like a beliggerent petulent selfish child then you will be treated as such. Unfortunently when you are treated that way, your message and your own perogatives will get lost.
Instead you get bogged down fighting battles that never needed to be battles, creating conflict when cooperation would have been beneficial for all.

I speak spanish and know many 'darkies', as you put it. I however don't seem to have the disdain for them that you do. They are good people who are just trying to make a living, and we need them here as much as they need us. I do not agree with an amnesty program, but they definitely need to be given the opportunity to come here and work legally, out of the shadows.
You can live in your own narrow minded hate filled world that you have crafted for yourself, but I will have none of that. You lefties are every bit as hateful as those on the extreme right, and quite clearly just as brainwashed. Face it, you leftists are dinosaurs... you are out of power. If this basic socialist principle also includes hating whites who to earn a little more money on average then darkies, then they therefore hate the whites. If this basic socialist principle also includes hating Christians, countries populated by a majority of Christians tends to be way more prosperous then any other religion on the planet, then therefore they hate Christians.
