Which could be considered better? EQ or EQ2?

I'm curious to see which you prefer the original old EQ or the new EQ2. So what are your comments on both games? What did they mess up or what did they do better in EQ2?

Never played either, just wanted to see the community's opinion on them.

It's really hard for me to decide. I have a lot of memories of EQ1 but that's just what they are memories. It was my first MMORPG experience and a lot of what I learned in it helped me to play other MMORPGs so that sort of throughs off my opinion of it, both positive and negative opinions.

I did play when they reactivited my account a fe months ago and I have to say I can't play it anymore. It's due to the graphics and point of view of the game. After playing Evequest 2, Dark Age of Camelot, City of Heroes, etc the downgrade in graphics hurts my eyes due to how they are setup in EQ1. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this.

EQ2 has better graphics but that doesn't mean it's better yet it can be a huge deciding factor if you play. I guess it comes down to decideding seveal things and what you want from either game.

If you want more solo options and larger world = EQ1
More realistice scale of environments and battles = EQ2
    Better graphics = EQ2
More defined class roles and unique feeling in classes = EQ1
    Group based = EQ1 and EQ2
Housing, better auction system = EQ2
Spell advancement and weapon/armor advancement = EQ1 (far easier and more effective here I feel).

The scale of things between EQ1 and EQ2 is the big annoying thing for me. Qeynos and Freeport in EQ2 feel like actual cities. Freeport has been changed recently I believe so I'm not sure how close to EQ2 Freeport it has become. True it was a product of the times but going from EQ1 to EQ2 and then back makes it more noticeable, where as it wouldn't have bothered a person before it might now.

EQ2 is better, but technology is just now coming around so that the average player can get the experience. A year from now EQ2 will only get better as performance is a huge factor. When 5 gig ram sticks come out and 1024mb Graphics cards are the norm, EQ2 will shine brightest.

EQ is and was much better than EQ2.

Improved graphics are a double edged sword. While they make the game look nice they have made the "epic" size zones that made EQ  famous a thing of the past.  EQ2s development team cannot make zones nearly as massive, nor can  they introduce the type of content that EQ showed us due to the development time it takes to make even small zones.

Afterall, the first M in MMORPG stands for Massive, not Tiny.

EQ2 here, but I did play the original EQ also for a number of years. EQ2 is a work in progress and its just bound to get either better or worse. As for it being "tiny"? well you really shouldn't compare the sizes of the worlds of both games because EQ has 6+ years? and more than 10 expansion to date. I forget how many continentes they have now in EQ. EQ2 well, I haven't explored all of it yet, but it already has two expansions out, and I'm sure more are on the way.

Also more players will get burned out on EQ1 and some will transfer over to EQ2 or another MMO. The same will eventually happen with EQ2 but it still has plenty of time to grow.
