RolePlayer Looking for a new home :(

Hello everyone, as the topic title says I am looking for a new MMORPG game. I've played quite a few now:
• WoW-was okay, played for quite a few months although i found once you have reached lvl 60 its the same even with different classes really. PvP was pretty poor as there were quite attack timing technacalities that made pvp irritating and dull.
• GW - Played this for a few months, just simply was a pretty box standard ORPG, lack of customisations and player idiviuality options  was the down fall of this title for me.
• NeverWinter Nights(not stricly a MMORPG) - Absolutely loved this game, great roleplaying servers with a decent level of roleplaying conduct. Nice engine and great gameplay. Just is very out-dated in graphics and features now.

So can anyone suggest a good MMORPG with a decent standard of graphics, PvP and a home for roleplayers? that is already out or soon to be realeased?

All suggestions are welcome and i thank all in advance

Sounds like you'll enjoy Ryzom.  Very nice graphics, has won the MMORPG award for best story, fantastic RP and events and optional PvP.

    Seven day trial at www.ryzom.com

Are you just looking at fantasy MMORPGs? or anything?

    - Neverwinter Nights 2 (not an MMORPG, but just sayin') comes out in September.
    - City of Heroes/City of Villains has a great roleplaying community (try Virtue Server) but it's a Superhero game, not Tolkien-esque fantasy game. The game is very good and will keep you entertained, but after a while you may find the missions to be very repetitive.
    - D&D Online claims to have a some role playing (on Sarlona and Thelanis servers) but quite honestly I rarely ever see any role play going on. Also, this game has issues (i.e., very little content, lack of content leading to quest repetition, very very little world lore introduced into the game even tho the PnP books are chock full of good lore, etc.). If you have a good RP guild though you can overlook a lot of the problems, if you don't have a good group of people to play with you may end up being disappointed..

[Edit: I forgot about Ryzom. Yeah I agree with the other poster. Really good community and role play going on there. The questing and whatnot is so-so IMHO, but the community was great.]

    I also suggest Ryzom. :)

    Just remember to:
    - Get off the starting island as soon as you're comfortable with the interface.
    - Look at the "List of Guilds" thread in the Guilds section of the Ryzom forums, and choose a roleplaying guild that fits your character.

    Really?

I so enjoyed Neverwinter Nights (1) too.

Hopeful 2 will be a lot better.

And if it comes out in September, it will be a few months more before there are some good servers. Since it takes time to modding. NWN itself wasn't fun, it was the mods run on private servers that interested me for quite a while.

I heard the saga of Ryzom has quite a big roleplaying community. you could also try Everquest 2's roleplaying servers. I recommend waiting for The lord of the rings online if you want some real roleplaying.

Id have ta disagree with nwn's not being a mmorpg while technicully it may not be.But in away it is like dozens of diffrent mmorpgs in one with all the diffrent servers there are some really decent ones on there. And nwn's has gotten a recent award for being a great tool for inspiring mmorpg designers. While not listed as a MMORPG.It has alll of the aspects of a mmorpg. In certain servers that is.and NWN's2 if they play there card write will be an awesome substitute of a common mmorpg.

Yeah really Check out the Neverwinter Nights 2 Bioware forums, lots of information there.

Also, gamespot has some screenshots from the game posted (probably find screenies elsewhere too). The game looks great. I only moderatetly got into the modding scene (made a few mods for friends but never had my own server). I know they have made a lot of improvements to the editor (more polished, more user friendly UI, etc.) for NWN2. The community seems to be be pretty hyped about it for the most part.

You can definitely consider the mods people have made and the stand-alone servers people have running to be MMORPGs. But NWN at its core is the single player game (even Bioware simply calls it an "RPG" not an "MMORPG"). A gamer can go through all of the content and never visit a server or install a mod once. A gamer can go through all the content and make mods specifically to be played by other single players. Bioware deserves credit for making a versatile RPG game which can be modded to MMO like standards.

NWN2 looks pretty cool, i never played the first, so i don't know what to expect.  Is it just a RPG like Morrowind?  or is it better?  The only thing that made me play that game was the fact that you could steal almost anything you wanted and stab almost anyone you wanted.

Well NWN 2 (like 1) takes place in Forgotten Realms (follows D&D 3.5 rule set). So character creation, skills, and so on are all based around that. So, there is a lot of ways you can customize your character (both skills-wise and graphically). The gameplay (at least in NWN 1) is not as "open" as Oblivion in that you can't just go around and kill whoever you want (I like to do that too, Fallout 1 and 2 FTW!). You can kill quite a few people , but not some of the key NPCs you need to futher the storyline. It is "open" in the sense that there is a lot of area to explore and lots of side quests to do in addition to the main storyline. Also NWN 1 (and it looks like 2 as well) is in 3rd person, Oblivion is mainly a 1st person game (you can play 3rd person but I found it to be a pain in the ass).

The thing that people liked most about NWN 1 was the ability to make your own modules. With modules people were able to make their own campaigns, storylines, and have the game be more "open". Since some people found the single player game to be lackluster (I didn't, but to each his own), they found nearly all of their fun playing mods or playing on stand-alone servers with mod content (that way they could have PvP and all sorts of cool stuff).

This isn't an immediate solution, but the upcoming Hero's Journey sounds like it may be a good fit for you when it comes out. It will highly encourage Role Playing and the visual customization of your character is unmatched in any mmorpg to date. Graphics look well done too.

However, they haven't realesed much information on how they will handling PVP yet. The information has been coming as a trickle recently. It seems that they may be waiting to open up the flood gates at E3

you mean kinds of armor and crafting materials ?

i think SIMS ONLINE might be good for you

hahahaha what do you think mmorpg's are.  No one role-plays in mmo's noob.  MMORPG= Massively Multiplayer Online Random Player Game.

In all seriousness if you wanna good roleplaying experience; don't be anything that is affiliated with good alignments, cause typically they never role-play or are plain evil.  Always go for the Evil; The Horde on WoW, Villians in City of Whatever, Robots in RF Online, Ogres in Everquest, or a Sith on SWG.  I don't think anything out has the immersiveness to really be cool to roleplay aside from A Tale in the Desert and The Sims Online.

Morrowind is only true rpg that come close how world looks and play like an MMO,only thing its solo also like oblivion, also total freedom.

Neverwinter nights is a rpg you look in third person from above, and maps and loading to new map is more traditional, while morrowind is free exploring open 3D realtime world.

Both are one of best rpg,s out there made by two of best rpg companys.

Just and only NWN or NWN2. Due to the nature of private servers they can enforce roleplay. Everywhere else it is just a hint , and that to say the best.

In NWN you have servers with applications, 24 hours DM's and actual living storylines...

The reason why you might be having trouble finding one is because there are a lot of monkeys out there who scream for PvP. Even in DDO they flipping demand PvP. ::::06:: If you want to get away from kids, lets face it only kids want PvP, then yeah NWN is your best shot.
