Well, in my opinion despite the official statement its very good for RFO player that GM team is working to make a clean game.

I agree whole heartedly on the bans but the video was unnecessary. Seems as if Codemasters feels the same.

    I miss DAoC

Sorry but this was great.   Have we, as a society, become that wussified that we must coddle the criminal element in general?   This is a broad stroke for a statement I know that these farmers are making a living leeching off these games but guess what?   No matter what anyone says in support of farming, deep down they know it's just a pathetic industry thats needs to die.

If these clowns driving these short busses of political correctness, can't see past the fact that coddling criminals makes them feel entitled and makes them feel like what they're doing is their right then they're on a long road to nowhere.  We have become a world of apathetic losers letting the underhanded leech off of everything we do.  Video games isn't the place for that to happen.

Good job to those GMs.   Congratulations on making a profound statement and hopefully you can continue to blast  all the farmers off the game and they'll go back to infesting WoW and L2.

Exactly what country's privacy laws are being violated? I know European countreis have significantly stricter privacy laws than the US, but as far as I know they're all about personally identifiable information. I am not aware of any country that has privacy laws stating that a company cannot say that a given character was banned from the game or show video of them banning him. Privacy laws and policies generally would only apply if they gave the person's real name, address, phone number, email address, etc.

Correct, but it makes the GM:s look like teenage kids who want to prove "how cool they are". Mourning had a similar thing when they named the ban-forum "Ive been a moron & got banned" or something similar.
(Also sometimes the character/account name is part of RL-name so that has to be considered which I hope they do).

Bottom line: If you work as a GM you should always be proffessional & these actions are not imho.

1 - Video was poor quality. Those two should have grabbed someone who has a clue about making a decent ingame vid since they obviously planned to show it around.

2 - Boring and stupid. A couple GM's with not very witty commentary teleporting farmers and bots to kill them. Wow. We did more entertaining things to bots on Darktide without GM powers. If you're going to abuse GM powers at least have some damn creativity or figure out something funny to say. "Bye! Enjoy WOW!" is something you'd expect the average basement dweller trolling forums to flame off to someone crying about quitting a game.

3 - Completely unprofessional. I see no point to playing another game where the GM's are just as much a bunch of jagoffs as they were in EQ. Unless they found a way to be funny, then I'm all for amusing myself at the expense of farmer trash.

The GMs are represantives of Alchemic Dream that rents "professional" GMs for mmorpgs...currently they are hosting games like Dark and Light and RF online.

Alchemic Dream already removed "official link" to the movie and commented that the video was done by two GMs on their spare time and isn't to be considered as official production of Alchemic Dreams inc.

I'm only commenting on the "OMG PRIVACY RIGHTS VIOLATED" and "they're going to get lawsuited" comments, not arguing whether it was a good idea or not.

Can anyone point to a single example of someome winning a lawsuit or a company getting some kind of criminal sanctions for this kind of privacy violation? Not for a company releasing real world info like name or phone number, but for showing actions taken against a character identified only by in-game image and in-game name.

I totally agree with zero tolarence rules. You cheat you receive ban = 0, and I think is necessary to give name to who used cheats to everyone knows who is kids and friends of this kids who use cheats.

    Oh well !

I see this as a wrong doing in not only the GMs fault, but the company for making the video.

Even though I do not play RF Online, it is still wrong.

Good Job GMs.... (BTW if you ever did that to me...Luckily, I do not bot and I do not play RF Online... Or do I? . Just kidding..).

Seriously though, that movie was innappropiate as those banned should have their privacy, so what if they were caught botting. Banning them is what must be done. Ridiculing them is just wrong.

    I agree

I dont think users have any privacy as far as in -game goes. No rights either. You can be banned for whatever reason and not even told for what, it's in the User Agreements.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

I had a GM threaten to ban me because he thought I was ignoring him when I was really just trying to get his name spelled right so I could reply.  He was being a bit of a jerk.  I know they have to put up with mouthy kids, but that doesn’t give them the right to be uncivil and threaten people with banning over petty things

That's the problem with people, they dare cheat in a game yet has the guts to complain about invasion of privacy. What is this privacy that you are talking about ? That you don't want people to know you are a shameless cheater? The game company can do whatever they want short of publishing your REAL life name and address on the internet. If they simply show a video with a bunch of cheating toons then that's not invasion of privacy.

It’s been awhile since I seen that video and I don’t remember if it showed the toons name or not but I would like to point out that those toons are unique to each server.  It’s not that hard to figure out who the real person was if you played on the same server.  That's almost as good as releasing your real name

After reading codemasters official statement about the video it sounds like BS.  There was nothing said about the GM’s being reprimanded, or even talked to.  They just told them to remove it from circulation.  Which we all know is imposiable once it hits the web.  That statement was intended to draw more attention to the video and what happened.  I think that release was intentional, and meant as a warning to RTM farmers.  Just my thoughts
