It's definately "not that bad." It's actually a very good game, and much more polished, stable, and ready for release than most of those MMOs to our left. Actually, I'd say the gameplay totally blows away most of those MMOs, too.
Sure, it's disappointed a few different types of gamers, myself included, but that's because I'm a bitter jaded MMO veteran hoping for something completely different. Others were just expecting a different sort of game, I think, because its been misrepresented. If you're into the whole PvE levelling treadmill mechanic, with some optional but insignicant PvP on the side, it's easily one of the better MMOs out there. Definately worth trying.
I'd say the biggest problem with it is its image. People have a lot of misconceptions about it, and it's mostly just because it was so badly marketted. It's not some budget shooter where you just drive around blowing everything up, but that's kind of what's brought to mind by the name, box art, ads, etc.
Sadly, launch has not gone so well. It's smooth, stable, and lag free, but shouldn't be - it should be way more crowded. They've got four servers, but really only have enough players for one (and we're not talking about a huge gameworld like EVE, here). Hopefully its popularity will grow, but I'm not not sure what NCSoft will do. IMHO, it looks pretty grim, unless NCSoft is ok with supporting such a small niche game.
It's a shame, I'd hate to see such a well put together MMO go down in wimpering flames, just because the marketting execs were clueless.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Yes, its quite disheartening to see the servers at 'low' status over the launch weekend. I expect the game to recieve consistently good reviews (for a mmorpg) and hopefully find it niche market in the coming weeks / months.

Nah, i dont think NCSoft will just shut it down. I heard a lot of good stuff about NCSoft from developing side. They pretty solid in supporting their games.
AA getting very good review and many ppl loving it. Yeah advertisment was strange. I thought it will be one of those Planetside type of game. if i didnt get in few last days of beta i would never buy it.
Well when sites like MMORPG.com and my site and other large gaming/tech sites do reviews on the game, word of mouth will spread and I'm sure more people will try the game out. It's a GOOD game, very polished imo, very well done. I can say with all honesty, logging into AA, playing for an hour and leveling a few times whilst blowing entire TOWNS to bits, rocks.
NCSoft normally supports their games very well, so I'm sure they will give it enough time to get a playerbase of decent size.

youve summed up the game experience that makes me enjoy auto assault right there.
