Some funny quotes from Jim Ward:
It was at a town hall meeting in August 2004, the month before he met
with Mr. Lucas, that he outlined his strategy in an auditorium filled
with staff members. It seemed simple: LucasArts would make high-quality
games, and deliver them on time and on budget.

And he is openly critical of Electronic Arts, a competitor, for not
being able to deliver its Godfather video game to consumers on time.
"It is absolutely a sin," he proclaimed.
All I can say is HAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHA!

I wonder about the wisdom of having some marketing guy be in charge of a game division.  No problem if he just takes on the marketing aspects, but if he is involved in creative decisions and he is not a gamer himself, long term, how can good games come from LA?

I'm looking at the conference schedule for E3 and a high proportion of the seminars are about marketing and selling and business aspects.  What happens to the creativity factor when the bean counters decide that gaming is the next big money maker and they not only take over financial and marketing aspects, but in order to sell more units they also put their hands in the creative pie?  Look at how much flack Bethesda is taking over the Oblivion mods released so far for loose change.  Some little bean counter said people loved Morrowind and the mods, how about if we charge them this time around?  Why release a whole expansion when you can dole out little game pieces and cha-ching in the cash?

Look at trends like SOG for Dark and Light and the furor.  Look at Tabula Rasa offering chances for beta if you have purchased Auto Assault.

It is getting icky out there.  Down with the bean counters!

They should really consider Blizzard as their competitor(not in WoW/SWG fashion either). But in the fact that Blizzard RARELY delivers a game on time, but always polishes the heck out of it. Oh, and free patches years down the line even adding more content.

And THAT'S why WoW has 5 million plus players.

Yes, I took refuge in WoW after cancelling my SWG accounts just before the CU.  I've been there ever since (level 44 Warlock, level 42 Rogue, etc.).  It is NOT as good as pre-CU SWG, yet, it has maintained my interest and my monthly funds because Blizzard really seems to care about both the game and its customers.  The game is exquisitely polished, and the patches/updates they publish are also, in comparison to SOE's methods, extremely polished and well-tested.

THAT is the main reason why WoW is so successful.  It's polished and generally works.  THAT is why people left SWG Pre-CU.  It was broken and not getting fixed.  SWG is going to PS3 now.  We'll wait for the next SW MMO that comes out.

I found this article on the SWG forums.  I had about 2 minutes to read it and then I made my reply.  The only reply.  It was deleted about 5 seconds after that.  Seems they think that this will cause some serious flames or issues.  lol...

EVE was released early with bugs, however the reason thier subs have risen consistantly over 3 years is that that they fix bugs first before anything else. Oh and free expansions that aren't half done overpriced efforts that only get buggier as time goes by.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

I tried EVE as well.  I played it for about 2 months before I decided a space-only game was not for me, and went back to WoW.  I will admit that it is unique, the graphics are gorgeous, and the fact that all players (17,000+ concurrent when I left) play on a single server was an impressive achievement.  But, I simply got tired of my character being a spaceship.  The game is a science fiction-based MMO, no doubt, but it isn't SWG (and isn't intended to be).

I personally needed the form and content of...well...something vaguely humanoid on terra firma.
