When i first saw this game i was amazed. it sounded like such an amazing game and the graphics looked really amazing.... which they are. But the gameplay is much less than what i expected. Nearly everyone in the game was a bellato (the race which gets mechs) and the PVE was absolutely horrid. Though this is a PVP game the CW were only for the highest level players. Anyone below level 30 would get one shotted and i (though i admit i am a casual type gamer) never reached that in the first month. The whole time i felt as though this game had the potential to be one of the best out there, they just didnt release ANY content... all the monsters were the same at all 3 starting places and as you fought better monsters, they turned out to be the same also just bigger. Though i have heard this changes at level 30, EVERYONE was a multi class. Some people may say that this is not a problem, but in the game i was a ranger, yet i had to max out all of my skills every level (range, defense, melee, and even shield, shield being the worst). In my opinion this could have been one of the best games ever if it had more content (it only had 2 dungouns in the game and they were not at all worthwhile). For a hardcore PVPer who has hundreds of hours to devote to leveling (though you cannot currently reach max level because when you reach level 43ish nothing will currently give you experience) this is your game. If you want ANY good PVE or group events this game is not for you. Other games have everything this one does and more so dont waste yout 50$ on it. There is a lot of negative hype about this game for a reason

Oh well !
The general OP's opinions are fairly accurate, but not entirely. Yes, at the moment the game lack a little bit of depth. But as is the case with many games, we are in the first stage of this game. The next few updates add a dramatic amount of content to the game. There are tons of battle dungeouns being added. GvG will be implemented, as well as an additional PvP game that is similar to American football actually.
And most of this will be implemented in the next 2 to 3 months. The game a has a bright future if people are willing to stick with it at all.
It is shallow PvE wise at the moment, but will be getting deeper and deeper in the coming months.
I honestly thought this game was going to be different than the usual asian-made MMO's out there, but besides the graphics, it really was the same crap. Grinding (however with a few quests to make you go out and grind some more, but attempting to make you think that's not what it is), potion-spamming (if two people of the same level are fighting, it's pretty much going to come down to who has the most potions), lack of character customization (as per the norm, characters will get about four options for each part of the body - hair and face being the only real differences you can see after the first two levels, as they have clothing options in there to make you think the customization isn't quite as bad as it is, but then you get better armor to cover it up), so everyone pretty much looks the same, at least for most of the game. I hear it gets slightly better in the higher levels. Slightly.
The combat was also relatively boring, however, the animations for skills were pretty cool. Too bad you're gonna be using those one or two skills for like 20-30 levels before you get a new one.
Basically, you get this game for the graphics, the mechs, and the horribly done PvP end-game.
I'm with the OP on this, but I would like to add that I'm 'mothballing' the game.
The things they have planned truly sound worthwhile, and I'll try them out once implemented.
I wouldn't call my experience with the game a complete waste - I have had some fun, and in the end, that's what counts. Say I only spent one night playing, then it's kept me away from the pub and paid for itself already!
I don't mind the grind at all, the graphics are pretty, there's a variety of monster models, the animations are great, there's a lot to keep track of in combat (health, mp, buffs, adds, skill timers, etc.) so it's not just an auto-attack snoozefest and the combat has a satisfyingly solid feel to it.
The game focuses around Team-based PvP. If you are looking for 1 vs. 1 PvP then you won't like this game. The developers have decided to remove healers by including potions that have a 3 second cooldown. This eliminates 1 on 1 PvP as well and makes you coordinate your team and focus fire in Team vs. Team PvP. Whether you find this a positive or negative trait is entirely up to your personal preference.
Chip Wars, an event that occurs three times a day an involves all three factions duking it out in mass PvP for control of the core, is an awesome event. You can theoretically participate at any level but in reality you shouldn't be there until at least level 25 and even then your value is dubious at best. It doesn't take very long to reach level 30 however, I reached level 20 in under seven days and I play 2-3 hours a day, your time may vary. Leveling does slow down heavily at level 30 however and soloing stops being a viable means to gain xp at a decent rate. That's fine with me since I like the group dynamic and have no desire to reach the level cap in anything under six months of play (as the game stands, it's very difficult to hit the level cap due to a lack of 40+ PvE content, though this will be addressed in the coming update). Again though, your personal preference will vary, so this game may or may not be for you.
There is customization. Appearance-wise, you won't be all that distinctive. For whatever reason, Asian MMO's don't put as much stock into appearance customization as Occidental ones do. If only having four or five hairstyles and four or five faces to combine is a game-breaker, then you won't like this game. Equipment-wise, you'll upgrade every two or three levels and the change in appearance is very noticeable, everything is very well-designed and looks good, if you're into an Anime/Final Fantasy look with giant swords and whatnot. If so, you'll be very pleased with the appearance of your character. However, within a given level and race/class, there is no variety. As a member of the military in your race, you are essentially wearing a uniform, so everyone wears the same thing. There is only 1 level 50 warrior armor graphic for each race, only 1 for level 45, so on and so forth. There are three armor types (warrior, ranger and spiritualist). If this is game-breaking for you, then you won't like this game. So where does customization come in? When you reach level 30, you will be given the choice of two classes to transfer into (much like L2) and then again at level 40. You begin as either a warrior, ranger, specialist or spiritualist and can either follow a class path or cross-class at level 30 into another path. There are many different ways to combine classes and most choices are viable ones. There is also customization in your PT's which are essentially your stats and represent your proficiency in melee, ranged, magic, etc. These increase through use, therefore each character can be different. A warrior who has leveled up his ranged PT will be able to wear ranger armor and therefore run faster and have different elemental resistances than one who chose only to level melee and used warrior armor exclusively. The last way to customize your character is through upgrading your equipment armor. There are a variety of options when it comes to upgrading and many of them have a visual effect as well.
If you liked Lineage 2, chances are you'll like this game. If you want a PvE focused game like EQ2, you won't like this game. If you want character customization on the level of CoH/CoV, look elsewhere. If you like mass PvP and don't care for 1 on 1 PvP, this might be for you.
This is by no means a bad game. I think it's a good one with the potential of becoming a great one, once the scheduled updates are implemented. However, it is not for everyone. Hopefully, if you've read this far, you'll be able to make a semi-informed decision on whether this game will suit you or not.

Oh well !
i never meant to say that this game was crap i just feel that it is not a very well rounde game and that it is lacking in content, wait a few months for a few updates and then it hopefully will be a good game with not all the emphasis on the CW and grinding (which takes forever). This is a game which is meant to entertain me and the grinding just did not do that i had fun at first ill admit but after 30 levels of the same stuff over and over i got bored and what is the use of playing a GAME is you are bored
Well here is my opinion
>This game is a clone of Lineage 2, while being 2.5 years later than Lineage2, RFO is still inferior.
Lineage 2 still have better graphics. Prettier characters. Better pvp.
RFO copied L2 elves, and gave them a new name, bigger chests with implants, less cloths. Same old grinding fest for PvE. Potion spam non stop for PvP.
Have you guys actually played Lineage2? I doubt anyone played L2 would be interested in RFO.
Release date L2 > RFO 2.5 years
graphics L2 > RFO (RFO copied L2, fake "elf" with implants and less cloths)
PvE L2 = RFO (same old grinding)
PvP L2 > RFO (RFO = potion spam non stop and just won't die. L2 has 1000+ organized players at one castle siege at the same time)
And yes I don't like RFO, because as a fact it shouldn't even exist in the first place...copying someone else while still being so much inferior after 2.5 years...
Here, check out some Lineage 2 screenshots
And here is some Lineage2 Castle Siege screenshots (hundreds if not 1000+ players were waiting for siege golems from our dwarves to bash through castle wall before be able to rush in and own the defenders in the faces)
(low details for these 2 screenshots because of too many players cause graphic lag during siege if do not turn down graphic settings)
The chance is, if you like RFO you will like L2 better. If you like L2, you won't be interested in RFO. Simply because RFO is such an inferior clone.
How can you say that lol...
Are you using firefox? Couldn't see my screenshots?
Or... contrary to the some popular theories, you could play L2 and completely hate it and like RFO. Also Lineage 2 isn't that much older than RFO. When RFO was released it was in Korea, Japan and China awhile back. It only recently came over to here. One is not a clone of the other. Saying RFO is a Lineage clone because of the ability to heal with potions is like saying DAoC is an Everquest clone because both games have clerics in them. Oh, and for your information their elf sort of looks like the WoW elf. Is WoW an L2 clone? More accurately, the elves in asian MMOs look a lot like the elves in Record of Lodoss War. People tend to make images similar to how things are presented in their pop culture.
True Neutral Half-Elf Ranger Mage
Follower Of Silvanus
Kings of Chaos! Free to play! Great PvP!
SO when was RFO released in Asia??
Lineage 2 was released in 2003.
And no, I didn't say they cloned spam potion. In fact L2 almost can't spam potion, or basicly L2 potion won't save you from 1 on 1. Unlike in RFO, you just make the kill as long as your enemy still have potions left...that's stupid for 1 on 1.
And can't you see, the screenshots...they copied elf. and other stuff. Lots of game system too, include class transfer when reach certain lvl, and lots more other things.
now lets get our facts right:
PVP : if you spam potions, you will never die
not really, you need to work together to outdamage that player. unlike Lineage 2, where it depends how much caster nukers you have.where Lineage 2 has castle sieges, RF Online has the Chip Wars. the only diffrence is, you can always join chip wars. in Lineage 2, you have to be in a very big alliance first before even thinking of joining the Castle sieges. not to mention it takes a long time before your high enough lvl.
PVE is the same as Lineage 2
Far from it, the whole combat system in RF Online is diffrent. lets start with the PT system. In lineage 2, if your pick a mage class, you will NEVER do anything else then casting spells. in RF Onlime, you are given the option to either stick with magic all the time, or change to mellee and Range once in a while. you keep changing your playstyle in RF Online, which makes the game less repetive.
RF Online is a clone of Lineage 2
Oh, you mean like Lineage 2 is a clone of L1 and Ragnarok Online? things like Class transfers already existed before people even heard of Lineage 2. EVERYTHING lineage 2 has has already been done by Ragnarok Online, Including the castle sieges.
You don't have to be in a big alliance to be able to do siege. Just being bandwagon to assist other bigger alliances lol.
Besides open pvp is 24/7.
L2 being L2's clone? lol you are joking. Of course...since they were both made by NCsoft.
sure you can assist other bigger alliances..but what for? no reason.
and games from the same company is not an excuse, a clone is a clone. its just the same all over again
Then I guess, all the companies shouldn't make 2, 3, 4...so on for their OWN original games?? Or they are cloning? Once their game is outdated, let it die??
It's completely different between remake your OWN game with new technologies, and copy someone else's game.
Assist other alliance...what's for??? For pvp !!! And it happens a lot specially if you dislike their enemies too!
In RFO,you can't even kill your own race...why do you want to fight game designed "enemies" for??? FOr what?
Player driving politics > ever change game designed "enemies"
so you can't kill your own race..why the heck would you want to kill your own race in RF Online? they are your ALLIES! they help you in battles. you kill them because they chose the other side. you kill them for CP, you kill them to controll the mine and get more funds.
RF Online's Faction based pvp > Lineage 2's pvp only-for-people-in-big-alliances any day of the week.
at least in RF Online everybody can join the fun. can't say that about Lineage 2.
