Does the EU version accept debit cards?

Well I phoned up squaresoft customer support about this and instead of someone from my area, I get put through to some American who not only couldn't understand my sexy british accent but didn't even have a clue what a solo debit card was so my question is simple, can I use my solo debit card with this game? I've had it ages ago but I can't remember if I used my debit or credit card with it.

    Credit card or Visa/Mastercard (or such) endorsed Checking cards. Debit are billed on a different system.
