uhmm it not the graphic that is being copy, it's the animation style, anime is a huge thing in jp and korea, because of the beautiful design and arts, so most of them end up the same, unlike america where the animation are....what the word....UGLY, thus more and more people try to develop a more unique way to make it look better like Diablo went to everquest and everquest went to DAOC and DAOC went to WOW. the animation style evolve and try to be unique but face it, they all ugly in the end. good gameplay though, gues that most important now aday in a video game. too many beautiful graphic game that end up like crap >_<
Many people are mislead when it comes to the graphics of some Korean games. You say they are more beautiful? The truth is, they're just taking shortcuts. The graphics are not actually very advanced, they just use simplistic rendering techniques. Notice that the faces of all the characters are smooth and umblemished. Look closely at the textures of the monsters and armor.
It comes down to this- American graphics in MMOs such as EQ2 are focused on realism. Reality is ugly. Korean game developers (and I'm not saying this is a necessarily negative thing) have access to much less funding than most American developers, and thus have to use shortcuts with the graphical styles of their games. Customization is very low. Characters' faces, bodies, and garments often look more natural because in exchange variety is very limited.
American (and to some extent, European) game designers can easily take the same shortcuts, but why do so when you can use your resources to make things more unique and true to life?
WoW is a special case- the graphics are purposely a bit dated to match the feel of the Warcraft RTS series.
Sorry, double post. I might as well add that the textures on Korean games are very flat and undetailed. Take a look at the screenshot of Rappelz above, for example. The ground is completely flat and the flowers/shrubbery looks painted on. This kind of graphical style attempts to maintain an illuision of advanced graphics when in reality the comparitively lower effort and funding being placed into these games are obvious to the critical eye.

If your name and/or password is a mixture of uppercase and lowercase, try all lowercase. For me, 44IdesofMarch wouldn't take at all. Once I tried 44idesofmarch it worked effortlessly.

Yeah that worked.
Heres a synopsis for anyone who decides to play:
Yes, it is a "korean" game. What I mean by this, is you get about 6 choices for hair (3 different types, 2 color choices), 4 face choices, and 2 wardrobe choices.
The login system is ghetto. Your username has to be lowercase, and if you accidently try it wrong, you have to shut the game down, and start it back up, to log in again.
The game is a point-and-click. Enough Said.
You hit f1, and your character fights, then you gain a Job Point for killing something, and spent it (similar to Lineage II).
Everyone looks the exact same (because the character creation is so damned limited)
The polygons are very hard, and the terrain is bland.
---
I am not a korean game hater, merely saying that this is the exact same as the other thousand out, and it is a no brainer. I'm sure in 5 minutes I could program a bot capable of doing everything I did for the first 15 minutes of play. Especially since the game is all point and click.
I will say though, one of the previous posters was correct in saying that the interface is well done for a korean grind game. It feels very nice, unlike most who feel like some 2 year old threw them together.
Well i have been playing the closed beta , my initial thoughts are nothing special it's about what i expected.
My biggest gripe is the very sloppy graphics engine ( i can play ArchLord , Source etc in high res + full detail with no framerate issues ) this however seems to suffer even on medium settings. Also suffers very poor sound effects ( lack of being worst offender..ie: footsteps atmosphere etc. ).
Conclusion it'll be just another poorly translated F2P ( shop) game.
Must admit i do prefer P2P mmorpgs , you get a certain extra quality with them.

Who need to look closely every details of the faces in the game?? You just play the game for god sake, not buying a house or car!!!

Reality is Ugly? yours probably, absolutely not mine. You are not in the reality world anymore when you play the game.. One thing that American developers know is just HOLLYWOOD.. Let say, New Hit movie in the theatre, trust me in few week, they will release the game... and EQ2 graphic look robotic to me..
American (and to some extent, European) game designers can easily take the same shortcuts, but why do so when you can use your resources to make things more unique and true to life?
So why dont they??? Why should I wasting my money and time to get very poor looking characters and items (weapons and armors)?? eventhough they have very advance graphic technique.
WoW is a special case- the graphics are purposely a bit dated to match the feel of the Warcraft RTS series.
At the end this is just a game, most of players dont care much about the graphic technique as long as the graphic itself beautifully designed.
Comments
1.] I don't like korean games
2.] Don't whine about what to do in quests if its korean .. who cares anyway bout them lol
