but he has yet to win anyone over.

As if anyone could win over a bunch of fanbois like yourselves. Odd that for as much as you all profess to love the game, you're here posting and not there playing.

Apparently you all feel as much need to defend the game as I do to slam it. Nerfs are my reason for slamming it. None of you have prvovided any reason for your vigorous (and often inflammatory) defense of it. So I am left wondering whether you're so bored you just have to come here to argue, or whether you're on the Cryptic or NCSoft payroll, making sure the Kool-Aid gets served in ample doses.

Either way, at least I have a reason to vent my frustration with the devs here, especially since I can't do it on the CoH site. You all just seem to be here to argue. Why don't you all just go back to your little cult compound at the CoH site, and have a laugh at my expense with the rest of the fanbois there?

Quite honestly, I agree that nerfs are not fun.
I5 nerfs and then I6/ED was a period where lots of people quit in anger.
I also thought about quiting the game in I6, but I stayed on to try out the nerfs.
It really wasn't that bad. Levelling speed stayed relatively the same for most players.

The 25+ game is where SOs/ED comes into play and the devs increased enemy XP.
Debt penalties were reduced. All powers got an endurance reduction.
The ones that were most affected were:
    1) Non forum readers or newbies. Many didn't understand ED, though this is now quite rare.
    2) Powerlevelers who now couldn't herd/nuke masses of enemies. (Although PLing is still very easy to do...)

Basically, I tried out the new updates and asked myself a few questions...
Was I still having fun? Can my characters still solo? Can they still contribute to a team?
I levelled up some more and found that it was still fun beating up goons, soloing is still very possible and teams are still worthwhile.

My levelling speed stayed pretty much the same as in I1-I3.
My main reached 50 in around 700 hours. (Halfway point in terms of XP is around level 40.)
I played a new hero (created in I6) from 1-33 in around 160 hours. (That's about 1/3 of the way to 50)
CoV levels even faster than CoH... ::::06::

Nerfs are my reason for slamming it.

Nerfs happen in every MMO, it's inevitable. Why?

MMOs because of their complexities will always have a few loopholes or combos that the devs didn't think about.
To balance out the game, they can either nerf a few sets OR buff everyone and then buff the NPC enemies.
Both result in balance, one requires more work and one makes people unhappy.
MMO devs often choose the 'less work' route.

    Why is balance needed? Diversity.
Remember City of /dev Blasters? Fire Tanks? Herders?
There was a time when the 3 most common words in CoH were Herd, Dreck, Burn.
Quite frankly, it was lame. No skill was required and it was very boring for both the herder and the people standing at the entrance being powerlevelled. And no, you couldn't just ignore it, since the majority of high-level teams were all doing it... ::::21::

Another reason (and probably the most important) why they need balance, is to slow down your levelling...
    1) To get you to experience all the content.
    2) To get more money from your continued subscription.

It's really quite simple, MMO devs don't like people skipping content and racing to max level, because then people get bored and quit. It should be no secret to anyone that most MMOs operate this way...

I've tried WoW and EQ2 (had a 51 Hunter and did a EQ2 trial) and I didn't enjoy them as much as CoX.
Some people like them, and I don't knock their preferences, but I started to ask myself...
Why am I doing boring tasks (crafting, skills, looting, travelling slooowly) so I can do better in the boring combat system? ::::07::

The devs are far from perfect and have made changes I've disagreed with, (RIP my 40 Dark Defender ::::16::)
but overall they've made a solid game and communicate often with the playerbase.

    So, I guess you could say I'm a fanboi...however, that doesn't mean I can't recognise the game's flaws.
I fully admit that CoX lacks depth and can get repetitive, but it's got a solid foundation based on fun, dynamic team-battles and it would take a nerf of Star Wars proportions to change that. ::::01::
In WoW/EQ2, I felt like I was grinding so I can do better at another type of grinding. ::::05::

Edit: Yikes, sorry for another long post.
And yes, before anyone else points it out...

I remember back before I5 and ED how my characters actually felt like superheros. Blasters could do amazing damage. Tanks could stand in the middle of  dozens of enemies and laugh at them. Scrappers could take a beating and give one too. Controllers could lock down mobs for days even though it took them days to kill/arrest them. Defenders had awesome heals/buffs and could debuff the nastiest villian from hitting like a truck to swinging like a little girl.  All that is gone now due to constant, yes CONSTANT,  nerfs.

Some say it was done to help balence PvP, others say they just did it to slow down leveling. I don't care which reason it was done for, all I know is that the characters I use to enjoy playing are no longer fun due to nerf after nerf after nerf.

I could usually find a build I liked (after having to respec every new issue) until issue 5/global defense nerf/ ED went live. After that, no matter what build I tried for my characters it just was not any where near what they use to be able to do and just made them feel weak. My fire tank has been stuck in the fetal position ever since the burn nerf and my regen scrapper got tired of being slapped in the face every new issue.

I played this game because my characters actually felt like superheros, now they are just Generichero#36527

I'm sorry I get a kick out of making a mockery of your posts, to put it bluntly. Nothing personal.

Apparently you all feel as much need to defend the game as I do to slam it. Nerfs are my reason for slamming it. None of you have prvovided any reason for your vigorous (and often inflammatory) defense of it. You slam the game, we defend it. It's called a discussion forum for a reason.

Either way, at least I have a reason to vent my frustration with the devs here, especially since I can't do it on the CoH site. You all just seem to be here to argue. I find it quite disturbing that you feel the need to continue venting since your leave from Suppression (which was over a year ago, matter-of-factly), specifically in a forum where players (or non-players) of this certain game can discuss amongst one another about issues in the game.

How do your posts not fit in this discussion?

Quite simply, sir, you would've been better off making an entirely new thread, vent-free, which detailed your concerns and issues with the game, instead of adding on to this destined (from the OP's post) bile.

Furthermore, if you truly and honestly expect one to respect your opinion, the least you could do is lose the arrogant attitude and blatant exaggeration that's so rife in your posts. You know, the whole "Statesman and his band of idiots are finding new ways to take your money." act. People plainly regard it as conspiracy theorism, and inevitably your shouting is akin to the act of shouting at a brick wall in frustration. All you need to do is state your concerns in a respectable fashion and make these discussions easier (hell, maybe even enjoyable) for the rest of us. Who knows, maybe someone would give you the benefit of a doubt that you have something worthwhile to read about.

    Good day, sir.

Ok most of the post on this topic grips and wines about grind and repitition doing the same type of mission over and over. Well guess what folks find a MMORPG where there is no repitition and the map layout are not the same for the game.

Ya see I subcribe to both CoH/CoV as well as WoW and guess what the mine maps dont change the missions dont change and every character ends up going though them and no matter how many alts you make there the same missions and the same kind of grind.

Yes WoW has trade skills and currentcy that folks of the fantasy genre are accustom to. And why is that cause it fits a fantasy type game. That in turn would not fit in a Super Hero crime fighting genre.

MMORPG are designed for comunity for groups and for having fun for the folks that like the genre that they are playing in. Not for those that are trying the game cause it gets a good rateing or that well everyone elce is playing it low level mentality.

    It's real simple folks.

Ya play the game to have fun and like the genre

Ya play the game to interact with other live folks on the servers

If your no longer having fun and dont like the folks your running with or running into.

Then please, please stop you dang wineing and leave, take a hike, go away, see ya wont miss ya.

Please go find something elce to focus your lack of attention on. Go find the next latest and gratest thing for you. You'll get board with that as well and wine about the same things.

I've always found it funny as hell, when they put out new patches the "game is doomed". Yet the game keeps chugging along. It seems to always go like this....

I(insert number) is coming and there will be changes that make the game more fun.

"The game is DOOMED, my AT will suck...DOOMED I TELL YA, DOOMED"

Devs "At least try it before you decide, we're sure you'll find the changes make the game more fun"

I? comes and people find out it isn't always bad.

    The game chugs along.

This game is exactly what it's supposed to be, good guy vs bad guy fighting. It doesn't try to be anything else. You want all that other junk, go play an EQ or WOW clone. Go to these other games if you want to raid for your Screaming pants of Gnoll Slaying or your Bastard Gloves of Ironforge.

Do the mission maps get repetitive? Yup, but it also helps make for quick gaming sessions. People can hop on, get a group fairly quickly and make it through these familiar maps and log off. It really isn't any different than raiding the same dungeon in EQ or WOW over and over and over. Same thing different skin.

I'm not trying to flame anyone. I just think some people look too deep into this game. I don't think it was really meant to be deep. I think it's more about fast paced action and kicking ass. Hmm now I want to go re-up my subscription. Damn you all!
