i didnt play mmorpgs yet but wanted to join one. however, there is just a confusing number out there, and if i would read a review of each, then once i would finish reading half of them would be dead and another half would be just released.
so:
does anyone know a good one that is released soon or not that old? should have a lot of players or good chances of getting them. graphics doesnt matter that much to me (im used to MUDs), what matters more is freedom to do stuff. or just lots of variety, many classes and such. maybe no lvl or power restriction of the char, or one that is unreachable high (i hate beeing at the "end" of some rpg). should have pets. doesnt matter if sci-fi or fantasy or whatever. uhm... what else... should be well playable in europe in matters of connection and such.
well, this noob ths and mmorpg master for any reply

oh, and pvp would be great. slaying monsters gets imho boring after a while since they act too stupid.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

Well, I'd say by your description. Try Lineage 2. It will be going Open Beta in North America (Europe and the rest of the world can connect to these servers) in 1 month max 2 months. It has a huge amount of player in South-Korea (and other Asian countries) and hopefully has a nice amount of players on the NA servers (I guess it will). Graphics are the best of the current MMORPGs (though it doesnt matter very much you it still is a nice bonus =P ). There are now a total of 30+ subclasses at the bottom of the class list (not counting the sub-classes you can be before this last subclass is reached) and there might be 60+ subclasses after a few updates. There is no lvl-cap and the devs are planning to make special features for very high lvl players so they keep enjoying the game. Talking about pets o.0 There are wolfs you can tame but the best pet in Lineage 2 is your home-grown drake =D . You start out having a small hatchling (baby dragon) which you can lvl up. After your pledge (guild/clan) get a pledgehouse you can make it evolve into a strider (mountable). Then when your pledge has a castle you can make it evolve into a full-grown drake (I'll post some screens at the end). Lineage 2 is for a large part focused on PvP. You got the ordinary PKing or fights in non-penalty arenas. But you can also wage official wars against other pledges and even siege (attack) the castle of another pledge! These battles are large-scale and are full of PvP and tactics.

So I'd recommend you to try the North American Open Beta =D

Yeah. Lineage 2 is an Epic Game in every angle you look at. Its graphics and music are done by top talents in the industry. Even if you don't like MMORPG genre, this title is a must try.

Now the massiveness, hardcoreness of this game's clan PvP battles speak for its epic nature. At anytime, you will find some 100-600 koreans or chineses/Japanese players engaged in a clan battle.

I don't know why they would hate each others so much to come to such melt-down, but it's a scene to behold. If you have actually been  in one of this battle, you would litteraly feel adrenalin rush in your blood stream. Also, NC guys recently improved the lagging issue surrounding the battle scene featuring 200-400 peoples in the same area. It actually gives you choice to lower the polygon count of models by factor of ~10. This is probably the one game that will feature a battle of 300+ players without generating a significant lag or server down.

Now, this game will require you a certain patience at the beginning. For those who have short attention span time, it will be tedious thing to tolerate - don't be surprised if you are required to kill a lot of monsters. But again, there are none that I know that doesn't have this aspect in one way or other. For a level based game that rewards time spent rather than some other measurable feat, there are really no other way to go around this tedium, at least I can't think of one. Continuous sequence of Fed-Ex missions, the "other Fed-Ex quests" certainly will not let one go over this lemma.
