PLEASE READ THE FULL TEXT OF THIS EMAIL

Thank you very much for helping us out with finding bugs and problems in Seed. We hope to get a lot of feedback from you, both regarding technical bugs, graphical bugs and inconsistencies. We also value suggestions about feature changes, and feature additions, but we will of course focus on fixing bugs first and foremost.

Please remember that this is a beta version of the game, and that the primary purpose of the beta test is to test, find and (for us) fix flaws. This should not keep you from playing the game and having fun, but if someone else asks you to help him track a bug, please do so.

For those of you that have volunteered and been selected as beta plus testers, you will receive additional information in a separate mail later, concerning the special role you have in the beta test program.

While you are reading the rest of this mail, you may as well download one of the beta client packages from

Please do not distribute the link – you need a Beta key to play the game anyway.

This page also contains maps and a preliminary manual. We will announce a more complete manual on the forums shortly.

There is no NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) that you legally must obey as a part of the beta.
There *are* a few things we kindly ask you not to do, as this could harm Seed and Runestone:

Please don't take screenshots or video capture of the canyon. The canyon is currently not in production quality, thus there are untextured areas, graphical errors and similar effects in the canyon. Screenshots and videos from canyon would not give a fair indication of the graphics quality you can expect from Seed. When Canyon is "screenshot ready", we will let you know. Until then, consider the Canyon a special preview, only available to you, the beta testers, before everyone else.

Please make sure the "Beta version" window is visible on all screen captures, if you wish to publish these.
We also remind you, that Seed is copyright of Runestone Game Development. Permission is hereby granted to publish in-game images and video, as long as such publication is accompanied by a text stating "Permission to use granted by Runestone Game Development".

Other than these two requests, feel free to take screenshots and in game video to your hearts delight.
Also, feel free to discuss the game on the forums or elsewhere, with anyone you please. If you want us to respond to your thoughts, please use the Seed forum. The developers will actively follow the discussions.

So, what to expect of the beta:

Expect crashes: We have Beta tested Seed since February 1st, but as the number of simultaneous players grow, new bugs will almost certainly appear, some of them crash-bugs.

Expect server downtime: We have keep-alive mechanisms that will automatically restart the servers after a crash, but sometimes, even these will fail, and need a developer to restart. We will keep you informed of server downtime on the website, [unneccesary links]

Expect bugs: ...but do not assume we know about them: get in the habit of having a notebook and pen handy when playing. Immediately when you experience a bug, write down what you did, who you were logged in as, where it happened, and what happened. Submit the bug from the ingame bugsubmission tool, or on the bug submission webpage. [unneccesary links]

Expect some time to pass, between the time you notify us of a bug, and the time it is fixed: While we will strive to fix bugs as quickly as possible, we will also have to prioritize.

Expect stuff that worked yesterday to be broken today: While we strive to only remove bugs, and while we test internally whenever we do so, we *will* accidentally introduce new bugs.

Expect character resets: We will try to avoid character resets as much as possible, but we *may* have to wipe the character database a few times during beta.

Content expectations.

The beta game area is a relatively small part of the tower. In addition, only a few simple stories and NPCs appear. We prefer to handle the basic issues first, before opening up for the more advanced features."

The number of items and components are relatively small. We want to make sure the system we have in place is sound, before adding more items and components.

We will add graphical and story content on a continuous basis. We will also add game systems and features along the way.

Developer feedback

We developers will be busy fixing all the bugs you find. We hope and will try to find time to also post on the boards, but we may be a little silent from time to time. If we are, it means we are working hard fixing bugs and adding content.

We will try to be relatively active on the Beta forums, [stuff I can't show].

Finally, we ask you to be patient with us: Developing a MMO is very complex, and we will make mistakes from time to time.

And to the OP, many congrats and have fun, remember to put in as much effort as you can as a beta tester and help make the game a positive experience for those that will follow you.

A few things to remember for new beta testers.

This is still Beta. Meaning that some of the games systems aren't fully operational yet. It's also not a fast action MMO. Seed is and will be about roleplaying more than anything else.

What to expect:
At first you won't know who a player is and who a NPC is. I know that's probably hard to beleive but it's true. I've made the mistake many times of think a player was an NPC.

Tidbits to keep in mind:
Access Points are the basic currency.
Skill training is time based but can be sped up by doing things.

VERY IMPORTANT!
Print out a map.
Print out the list of character interaction commands on the seed website.

Finally if you are in the US Pacific time zone, look me up. Name there is Raynes.

Seed is on of those rare instances where screenshots do not really give you a full grasp of what it's like being in game.

From the review on this site:
"The look of Seed is extraordinary. The game has a comic book feel to
it. Some may think it is cartoony, it’s not. The themes and content of
the game are very sophisticated and complex. This adds to the overall
sci-fi feel of the game."

"Da Vinci itself is not a small place. It does however have a very
different design from most MMOs. There are no sweeping landscapes,
although I was not able to venture outside the colony. The rooms and
hallways have a very futuristic feel. It kept reminding me of the movie
Aliens. The whole concept of an off world colony from earth was very
detailed, Seed is no exception. The octagonal hallways lead you around
the main parts of the colony. There are smaller pathways which can take
you to different rooms and store rooms. One of my favorite areas is the
central garden where TAU (the master computer) is located. I was also
able to visit Pathfinder which looks like the central quest area in the
game. The huge screens in the room may likely be used for a number of
elements, but until launch we won’t know exactly. I did not yet venture
outside the colony onto the planet, but again it is early. Overall I
have to say the comic book feel and futuristic setting adds a fun yet
sophisticated atmosphere for players to explore."

In other words it's not about the number of polygons or how realistic textures look. It's about setting of an atmosphere. And that Seed does VERY well.

"Patch files download: 147 MB / 325 MB" After a couple of hours. I guess I will be done by tomorrow. But I can't say it's that bad. For a tiny company from Denmark.

Hoping that the game isn't filled with people screaming things like "Sloooooooooooooooooooow downloaaaaaaaaaadddddddd" ingame. After reading all the warnings in the beta acceptance mail I fear there will be quite alot of bugs. Something a former Gw, Wow (Instant gratification) player on the looks for something free, will let everyone know what he thinks about. Probably in capitalized "omg lolzor language".

14 MB / 325 MB after couple of hours. I think this constitutes as slooooooooowwwwww doooownloooooaaaaad. Problem is that they smashed open beta to the MMO hungry masses, naively not expecting huge interest. And now they can not take the heat.... They should let some mirrors host the files , or at least bittorrent it.

And as for GW,WOW instant gratification players not showing up ... well fat chance also. You can bet your sorry ass the game will be crawling with them. So dont dream to much

This game is supposed to be the return of roleplay , or even perhaps the first true rp mmo ...

I seriously doubt they will be able to pull this , but if they do

Shame that they are not taking any new applications at the moment. I just started looking into the game yesterday, but didn't see the Open Beta offer until today - and now its too late

Will there be another beta phase, or is the game nearly ready for release since they are (were) offering an open beta now?

should get some info on the game since tons of people are starting today, just read forums next couple days and you probably find someo9ne who hates it(no combat) who will give you thier account

GW and WoW players might show up. But I can already tell you they will sign in, play for maybe 5 minutes and leave saying "Seed SUCKS!". The game is about RP plain and simple. If you don't like to RP you aren't going to like this game and you will get VERY bored very quickly.

As for people screaming things in game, you won't find much of that either. There is no central chat channel. You can only speak to those around you (as far as I have seen). You might also be able to speak in a ring/guild chat but I'm not sure about that either.

And they just opened a bit torrent line. Check the seed forums.

You had to have applied for Beta before today. The game goes live May 2nd.

Now on the flip side. When it goes live the client is free and you get a 2 week period to try it.
