Everyone says the only explenation for the nge is the move to ps3, but that makes even less sense. How in gods name can the current dev team make this game ready for a console, where bugs are pretty much non-existant and definately not tolerated. Moving this game to ps3 would be disastrous. There has to be an explenation to all the madness that is the nge, but i dont think this is it.
On second thought, since moving swg to ps3 is unrealistic and stupid, thats probably exactly what they'll end up doing.

The whole NGE interface just screams "Console!", and we all knew it the first time we saw it. Actions always speak louder than words (and denials), and that interface was a simply deafening statement of intent. Of course it is going to PS3, and probably XBox too, but the current crop of devs are incompetent - third-string at best. The good ones started leaving after the CU, and it was a full-fledged rush for the lifeboats after the NGE went live.

To the OP. Yes, it is a shame and it is obvious that Lucas cares very little about how the fans feel. Look at the remasters of the original Star Wars movies. I know for a fact a lot of people would buy the original movies, before the new scenes and music edits, and that they would sell like hotcakes. The problem is, it is about what Lucas wants. Star Wars has always been a franchise and always will be. Many say, that Lucas was really the inventor of the movie franchise, at least in terms of how much merchandise was released and sold. Star Wars has always been about marketing.
That said I will always have a special place for the orginal episodes 4,5, and 6 in my heart. However, it is disillusioning to find out all this was about was our money. In the end, any kind of entertainment franchise is about that. It's just about whether or not the creators care to disguise it or not. At least Lucas is honest, in an offhand way.

I doubt he cares about any "single" game. It's the overall $$$ made by LucasArts that would concern him. So if they are in the black, why would he care?
Ahhh....I remember the idealism of youth....then the crushing blows of reality. I may not have much of that idealism now that I am getting long in the tooth, but those crushing blows of reality never let up!

To everyone else knocking Lucas. Its a little insane to expect to love ep 1-3 like you did the orginals. Childhood is different. He made these for different age groups then the current fan base. EP1 and EP3 are good movies. I really enjoyed them. I think you have unrealistic expectations. He knew 1-3 where not great scripts the first go around. He did them for us fans and risked the legacy of the franchise he'd built to make new movies. I appreciate that risk and the special effects where amazing. The fight scenes where great. Could I have used better acting. Sure. Who couldn't in any of the Star Wars titles. Orginal Skywalker couldn't annoy me more. Point being. Sure he wants to make money, but he is a film maker and his intentions where to deliver 3 great star wars movies the fans would really enjoy. Remember that intent when you go bashing the work as some whore mongering. You act as if he evilly plotted to make as much cash possible and exploit the franchise of every last nickle. Yes, console gamers have a lower tolerance for bugs, but that is only because of one thing. Once purchased, the console game cannot be changed, you have to purchase a new edition.
However, this is changing. With the ability to install a game on the console hard drive and with internet access, it is now possible to update games. It is only because of this reason that MMORPGs would even be considered possible for consoles, as any non-changing MMORPG would quickly die.
Imagine if EverQuest never had an expansion or even free content added in. Do you think it would still be around today?
Lucas Empire is real huge now. Seriously, do you believe Lucas can bear resposibility for every single product which comes out with LA trademark? I don't. I believe he "cares" only about things he cares himself, as a person. And as a person he cares only about the movies. That's it. Only movies. SWG, LEGO StarWars, or Darth Wader costume - those are left to the people who are bearing responsiblity for a concrete LA product. In SWG case it is Julio Torres, if I'm not mistaken
I'm not sure G.Lucas even knows about SWG existence or even existence of MMORPGs as genre at all.
