I been away from UO for over 1yr now, played since 2000, recently UO main page posted this interesting bit of info. click here  UO HOME

As you can see on the news page the one about the big Bans and confiscated items. I been wondering since watching the forums and such on how UO is dieing. Well from the bunch controlling the game they should realize the game is over 6yrs old and has been the strongest most fun game in its entirety for the first few years. Its been fun for many and a job for many. I think that they are killing their own game by baning 100+ accounts each month just cause of farming or scripting, who gives a rats but, will it make any difference in a game thats 6+yrs old that can't even compete against the new mmo games out? Seriously though, I think they need to stop baning people for doing whats fun to them and having a good old time, I admit I use to script to make things easier and whenever I made new guys I had no time to spend months or so geting to max out stats so scripting helped. Besides that, no normal play ever resulted in me saying the game was inbalanced or not fun because of scripters.

Finally UO might die and im sorry to say, but the people who run UO are blind to worry so much on baning the small customer base it has just because of scripting or little farming, WOW im amazed that they would keep that much revenue away from them. Perhaps the dumbies runing the show need to step away. THE GAME IS OLD!!! And to think I was going to come back to play for some fun, maybe 1hr a day or less just to get back in the swing of things.

Anyways, how do you guys fell about the choices they are making? Baning players in UO for a process that almost seems part of the game, I mean if you think about it, scripting and farming in UO has been around since its insertion and it seems at least for me a part of UO and its uniqueness, maybe im wrong or maybe you guys havn't had as much success as I had in the game. But thats how I fell even though ive been away over 1yr now. Stuff that contributes to making the player base decline like this is just silly to me. 100+ accounts baned each month?

I've been with the game since the beginning. This was way back when you could gate monsters and kill people with one firebal spell, gate guards out of town, etc...I think them banning people is justified. They have probably figured out that banning people doing this stuff will not hurt their bottomline.

You have to realize that there are still people in this game, as well as others, that have multiple accounts. Some people are paying up in the 100's every month and every expansion they pay for each individual account to be upgraded. There are devoted players and people doing illegal stuff ingame. 100+ accounts each month might really mean 25-50 players who have multiple accounts that have been caught. If you have 5 accounts and are messing around and get caught, there goes 5 X monthly fee every month.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

LOL UO has been around for 9 years.  almost 10 if you count Beta :)

And I agree with Paade, you are definitely mentally challenged.  If it 'can't compete' with newer games please explain why it's still in the top of the MMO rankings (by population) when it's the *oldest* subscripton based MMORPG on the market?  I believe that last I checked it was #12 out of about 50 despite having 2D *very dated* graphics and a Dev team that seems hell bent on driving the player base off.

(note:  The #12 ranking is *without* the player base on all the free shards floating around, which add another 50k or so players to it's total and actually pushes it's total "players playing UO" up into the 200k area and into the top 10).

But I guess you're right, it 'can't compete'.

    LOL

Well for my mistake I meant to say how long I been playing it, really it doesn't matter 9yrs old is pretty old for MMO game and conclusion to my original post my info stands UO is dying.

And to call someone an idiot cause of something small, your mama and daddy must of been hardcore druggies or just never brought you up right, such bad manners.

Yeah im mentally challenged, Daaaa wha r u say rrrr Duggghhhhhhh uhhhh!

WTF  people, do your research next time before posting, and one more thing diehard fanboys like yourself never ever agree with anything remotely obscured about their game its so funny to see how you guys act, its really childish.

If you would of done your research you will find many online resources showing the fall of UO, such as your saying UO is in top of the MMO ranking. Well in order for it to mean TOP in rankings that would be 1-5, whos the idiot now? Anyway its not even #12 in ranking its dead last, even Silkroad and Knight Online has 10 times more in population playing. As far as subscribers they are on decline and so has the population playing since early last year. Try looking harder at the graphs next time OMG MMORPG POPULATIONS!!!  and if you want to read up on this article I just found then see here  UO DYEING ARTICLE

Only reason to simply hold onto and really show such ignorance on forums for old games anymore is if your A.) hardcore fanboy  or   B.) Employees or DEVS-MODS of that particular game. I believe that your either A or both, or maybe  C.) An idiot of forums

Total UO subscribers is well under 150k now, thats subscribers rather playing or not or just have had long time subscriptions paid. In reality from what I can take on those graphs the max UO population playing on absolute contribution to the online populations is under 50k, as mentioned on another site where the total peek was 38k people playing for the months of Jan-March average 38k people, thats what like not even 3% of total market share?  I highly doubt 40k people playing active is puting this game anywhere in the top 10 or even top 20 LOL!  Take a look what is still stronger then UO, AC, EQ, Lineage, Knight Online, Ragnarok Online, FFXI, D&D, City of Heroes, DAOC, EQ2, WOW, EVE, SWG, AO, GW, TMO, RYL, RF online.  And many more, and that was in no particular order but just to show you all those are higher then UO in terms of subs and populations.

Ohhh did I forget to mention that UO was dead?  Darn all 40+ my old guild friends from UO don't play anymore, ICQ them all and its pretty funny they all seem to think the same thing and would it be coincidence or just truth that all 40+ guild friends who use to play UO with me and were still playing at the time I quit are not playing anymore. WOW

Ok all your old friends are not playing UO anymore. May I ask, what are they mostly playing?
    I'm just curious.
I was on the UO forums this morning, trying to see which shards are most active.
I used to play Sonoma years ago when it was full of folks.
One of the comments on the forums was "you can spend all day in Sonoma walking around and not see one other person in Britannia or Luna or anywhere".

That shocked me. I'd hate to think of old Sonoma as empty. They also said housing is available on all shards? Whoa, that would be amazing to see. I remember it when you could block entire areas with houses before they changed placement rules.

I looked and my old 2000 account is still there. I might reactivate it just for hte heck of it.
I looked on Ebay just for fun and accounts are selling for next to nothing, too.

Where did everyone go? Lineage 2?

Hi friend, sorry if I havnt responded sooner but this post is kinda old and I got email saying it had a post so I will answer your question.

Most of my guild friends are playing WOW and most just waiting till we can all get into Vanguard to restart things. Some even have ideas of waiting for that Warhammer online now and im surprised cause my 2nd choice would of been Heroes Journey, just because I hated WOW and quit last Dec. with 2  60's on same account full epic gear, the game was terrible later in lvl 60.  Anyway thats the scoop man we all waiting for Vanguard or most playing WOW still, blahh!

Thank you for your reply. I'll have to try WOW. I am trying Lineage II now, and so far it's really awsome.
For instance, I had a small problem and a GM answered right away and WAS COURTEOUS!
I played EVE for two years and either the GM's reply had nothing to do with what I asked, or it was in some cases discourteous.
So Lineage II is refreshing. Also the graphics, I think, are great although I wish ALL the women didn't have such oversized breasts. haha

I still greatly miss UO though. I still dream in UO.
Most of the time in UO it wasn't worth your time contacting a GM as it would take many hours, usually, but then when they did come they would indeed help. They always did what they could which was great.

Although UO did have it's rouge GM problems, too, which were widely discussed. They were all fired at one time (hehehe) thanks to the efforts of me and a few 1000 other folks.

Let me save you $40...Don't try WoW.  I tried it out hearing all these good things about it. . .and as an EX-UO player, it was the worst game I ever played.  I felt like I was paying $15 a month for a single player game.  What a waste.  I currently am waiting for Vanguard too, have been for some time now.

I agree also (Being a former UO player from the days before trammel), I played WOW for about 5 days and realized I just wasted my money.  WOW does nothing for me.  I'm glad alot of others enjoy it, but for me it was a disaster.
