Im not flaming soe or anything I just know alot about them considering I had friends who worked for them from swg to eq, I also have had many dealings with them and all turned out bad in the end because of my experience I know how they can be. There are some who are ok in the soe department, but in my opinion soe is just plane greedy.
  • nah, wasnt pertaining to you personally about flaming SOE , just in general from my previous statements and having fits of uncontrollable laughter over the Eula oops.

Would agree with the greedy part for sure. My xp with them hasnt been all bad at all. Even the customer service hasnt been the horrific episodes I have read elsewhere. Then again, I never really had any problems to have to talk to customer service much and even then it was very minor and a newbie thing.

DAOC I would have to say is the one of the worst in xp for customer service. There is no real customer service, as they are all volunteers ingame. THen you have billing and tech only and even those seem to be for very specific only. All you hear is 'sorry cannot help you with that, is there anything else I may help you with? canned responses. So honestly customer service in a general sense is non existent in DAOC. The game itself tho is pretty kewl. Motion is a bit slow compared to other big boys but the PvP is prolly the best we got out there today.

D&DO was okay. Just not my thing.

WOW was okay, quickly bored and the community is tore up.

EQ2 isnt bad, somethign to pass the time.

That new Vanguard of course is looking good, as is PotBS, and that new one they found at the Show...what was it? Had a really good preliminary review and won for graphics. I will stretch and say that one will prolly be the sleeper of the year --- meaning it will pop on us, without the bs hype and be one of the best and of course WAR coming up (part of the Mythic Entertainment deal --- so cant really expect much help in the customer service dept if anything like its older sister DAOC).

I still have this game and will stay till my freebie is up but then again, I get one more statement that somethign that sold me on it is not gonna be available within a reasonable time and I will definitely hang this game up. The list is getting way too short now.

I hope those games come out soon, im getting bored with single player games I do miss a good mmorpg, I would be on eq2 right now but there having issues with drivers for 6800 gt 256 mb card nvidia of course but the character textures were blurry and it was just a bunch of crap soe had me to differant stuff which I might add had nothing to do with the graphics issue. So I told them to suspend my account I doubt ill be back it was a waste of money and time to re activate. Before I had it and never had that issue I just was lacking ram at the time.

I have considered trying DAOC im just afraid I wont like the graphics because if I didnt care for the graphics all that much id be back in everquest 1 in a second, anyways the trial would take about 9 hours on my crappy dsl to download lol my net speed is fine since I tweaked it its just my upload and download speed, yea im using sbc yahoo dsl I also went to the faster service I didnt notice a differance just another example of poor customer service there just as greedy, when I called them one time they couldnt figure out why my net speed was alot faster then it should of been lmao they were kind of mad and stupidfied I hijacked it of course hahahaha.

I quit wow for pretty much the same reason as you, I really was going to try swg but that didnt work out since soe ruined it like always, city of heroes, city of villans good game but same quests found it repetitve and the exp is way to slow worse then eq2, oh and I tried rf online for 2 days after wasting my money on the first month and the game itself what a load of crap. The devs could do way better in that game no offense to anyone who likes it but the environment graphics looked worse then everquest1!.

  • yeh I hear ya on the dang sbc yahoo, Had that a couple years ago and guickly switched lol - who was it before them -- oh yeah, Prodigy Online. Wow long time ago. Looking at download time tho it isnt much different from this bittorrent crap, at least they have their own servers to get it from.

The graphics tho on DAOC are good, and they are constantly updating. They just seem slow compared to other games. They have had some recent updates to the skills overhauling to the classes that were formerly left in the dust.Havent been there this week yet but I do know another major live update is coming or has just been done cant remember when it was supposed to be. (between trying to play DNL and two other betas Im in, havent found much time)  doesnt make up for much but at least they are giving the appearance of it. Gameplay is slow compared to the others I have played but have had no problems. I did have lag issues and such last year before a big live update but after that no problems since. Its okay, just getting boring. Their expansion pack with the champion levels was a huge ripoff and a blatant greed tactic so that pushed me further away. Cant beat the PvP tho.

EQ2 isnt bad at all actually, graphics wise. I havent got an uber puter, decent one but I have no probs with the graphics. I have probably LD'd twice in 18 months so I cant really say anything bad about them at all.  A friend of mine has a similiar problem as yours with the graphics and nothing tech told him to do fixed anything. He is building a new one however so we will see what happens. He still gets on and can stay on after a recent update but a couple days go by and he starts LDing all over the place.

Never even attempted SWG. Yes, the forums and rumors and such led me away. A friend of mine was in it and used to watch him play then log off LOL Many of the players I met in other games, refugees of SWG, further pushed me away. Dont wish to try it in the near future at this point either.

The two betas I am in are doing great graphics wise.Smooth as silk and doesnt seem to bother which card (ATI, NVIDIA, etc) I like the speed of the gameplay, reminds me of EQ2. We were comparing ram and graphics the other day in beta forums and it doesnt seem to be picky about them.

Ok im sorry enough griping for me anyways how is doac pve thats what im mainly after pvp is ok, but I play rpgs for the pve experience.

EQ2 graphics were overhyped crap. They look like shit. The world is all bland and washed out looking. And the characters look over stylized and phoney.
  • yeh compared to daoc, the graphics in EQ2 do have a certain bland cast to them but they are clear , realistic, etc. The style of the game though calls for that type of casting, its the complete opposite of the cartoony colors for sure.

The DAOC PvE has and is in the process of a huge overhaul/makeover. Its okay, meaning its not thrilling but I wouldnt say its the usual grind. Instance dungeons get a little boring but there are lots of areas to go other than an instance. And you can definitely see a huge difference in drops for the different realms. The "good" loot drops mainly from the raid group/battlegroup mobs. You can solo (other than the great mobs) there quite well until you want the good stuff or pay through the nose in game coin for them. Some artifact items can be done solo at the lower levels. I do like the way you can definitely power level someone (saves much with an alt and I have quite a few). The crafting is boring as hell, that too is going through a complete overhaul. Dont know what it will be like as i havent done anything lately in game there.

I still think EQ2's crafting is good- however I dont like the way the new recipes system is working out. If they intend on making the entire system that way, instead of just the last level as it is now, I dont think I will be crafting as much. The new expansion is bringing a new race to the game as well as opening up yet another area. There is so much to do its hard not to get bored most times.

Havent played much of either game really since the betas Im in but I still have accounts there.

And yet they call us trolls and flamers...sheesh!

Just wanted to mention that although the graphics are outdated, the RvR in DAOC cannot be beat, or at least, has not been equalled by ANY game so far IMHO.  I played it for several years and quit only because I needed a break.  It is a great game but the fun really starts at level 45+.  If you are going to play it, don't judge it by the first levels, or the trial account.  Although fun, they are nothing like what comes later.  Its the only game I have played where you stay for a long time after maxing out your character bad graphics and all.
Also bear in mind that the first characters you create are not likely to be your final characters.  You will need to experiment for a while, get a feel for the game in terms of realms and classes, and correct any realm, race and skill choice mistakes you may have made.  Servers have a life of their own too.  You may hate playing one realm on a server and find that the same realm and class on another server are great.  Skills, races and classes are unique to each realm so if you want to play a caster, the Albion Wizard's spells and equipment will be different from those of the Hib Eldrich and the Mid Runemaster.  This makes RvR so much fun because you fight a wizard differently than you would an Eldritch and vise versa, and yet you can say that one is never more powerful than the other because they have done such an excellent balancing job.  Its up to you to stratergise how you will take out that Pally before he/she gets to you.

    Anyway, good luck with DAOC

I liked DAOC also. Played for awhile there. I am excited however about this one, gleaned from the news room thread: MMOGCHART.com

    Aion: The Tower of Eternity

    Availability: Q4 2006

    http://www.plaync.com/us/games/aion/index.html

NCSoft’s long-anticipated and highly secretive MMORPG Aion was finally revealed at E3 this year, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.  The graphics are gorgeous, featuring luminous landscapes and amazing character detail.  Powered by the Crytec game engine, it rivals all other MMOGs on the horizon save perhaps SUN.  The game features a unique setting and story, where players become either angels or demons, fighting a supernatural battle not only against each other but also against an NPC faction, the dragons.  During both combat and questing, game play is supplemented via in-game cinematic cut scenes that serve to enhance the game’s storytelling.  Aion also promises to have stories that are directly driven by player actions, allowing each game server to have it’s own unique path and plot as a result of decisions characters make in the game world.    If the game has a weakness, it may be that the divine setting may be a little too “out there” for some people, and it’s legitimate to ask whether or not the setting of the game can truly defy “cultural boundaries” as the developers promise and appeal to both Eastern and Western audiences.

The "cinematic cuts" however concern me. Is this a feature that may just turn to annoying?

Hmmm, Aion has an interesting concept.  Just bookmarked the page :)

and now all hatebois -- even those whom we only suspect! -- will be tarred, feathered, litup in effigy and <gasp!> horror of all horrors, ejected from the forum like a bad egg. Under attack?? >>> Nah , this out and out flamercide! Annihilation!  THERMONUCLEAR DAMAGE CONTROL!!!
  • LOL Funniest damn thing I have read about the antics of this game in a few days. Gonna cut off the forums. Gonna cut out the bad guys (like thats new?) This guy I think truly believes he is some kinda leader of some kinda ...thing..or whatever...Its getting scary man watching this shit. ITs like no one even remotely involved with this game can connect the two sides of their brains. Theres something missing, something not "right" with it. Fricking gestapo commando bs, fricking guerilla tactics, fricking propaganda bs..Its truly amazing to watch.
