Originally posted by Rennon Best thing about shadowbane, it doesn't tend to the noobs. You can gimp your char on here badly, You will always have someone who can beat you. There is just so many ways to make 1 char, its Mind Jarring trying to Think up the perfect one. Pvp has no Rules, And the world is almost completely Controlled by the players. If the whole server is in chaos, Random Pks. You'll have it. If poeple decide to band together you get an alliance, and of course you get enemies just as fast. If you go back and talk about the past with old shadowbane Wars, Its like a Book. And the story is always writing it self, No other game can have so many twists and turns. The mass of players Controls it all.... So much more to this game than what you see at first glance.
The part I have always liked is when you come upon a guy, you only slightly know what to expect. In WoW, for example, you pretty much know what they are going to do because every class plays just about the same with minor differences in talents. So you get completely random experiences and that sense of excitement when you slightly know what to expect.
hack (hak) n., A clever solution to an interesting problem.
In reply to damien7, the website has (largely useless) descriptions of the professions. Its nice to know that they had some kind of vision for what all these professions were supposed to mean but they're not helpful for rolling a toon. The only actual guide I found was for making a Centaur Barbarian (luckily, I was already trying to make one of those). An endgame character sheet isn't a guide, its just confusing.
Most of the guide links in the forums too me to the main webpage, presumably a file-not-found error? Some of the information I found on websites seemed dated too, or it applied to long after newbie selection choices.
I'm willing to read lots about a game, if it applies to what I'm trying to achieve. Hell, most of my existence in Anarchy Online was trying to absorb the accumulated experience of the community, though it took two gimps to even start to make a successful character.
the place to look for advice for creating a character is the class forums, not the website itself. Most of the problems you will have finding what you need even there however will be the same thing you mentioned- accumulated experience of the community. There is an assumption that readers have a high level of understanding (unless the post is specifically targeting a question from a new player).
This is especially true for classes like barbarian which are fairly straightforward, so most of the posts you will find will likely be a few vets fighting over minor differences of opinion between their personal views on perfection.
Shadowbane is the greatest PvP mmo out atm....it not very new player friendly tho
Also WoW is made for 3 year olds with A.D.D. The game is so dumb down. Its full of bright happy colors, and the questing is boring and repetitive( Kill ten Bears, so i can get a blue shirt). The purpose of this game is collecting gear, people do quest so they can get shiny purple hats, and "rare/overpriced"l objects that no one else has, and they sit in ironforge and think they are uber leet....Sad. The pvp in WoW blows, it mades me sick when i think of how bad it is.
and if thers WoW players that differs with my thoughts, dun care... go and collect you colorful gear so you can feel uber, nubz

Isn't this thread ancient btw?
