I've
been a visitor to this site for a little over a year now; about the same time I
began to try out MMO's. Just reading and getting info on games to play. Started
out with WOW, and loved it. A great introduction to the MMO world. The reason
why I went to it first was because everyone said it was for the casual gamer
and being a full time college student and having a part time job this seemed
perfect. In my opinion though WOW is for the casual gamer at first but once you
get to higher levels it requires a significant amount of more time because
everyone is just doing raids. I quickly fell far behind my friends and younger
brother who started with me, because they could power level.

So, what's my point with all this? Kind of tired of all these "eve
sucks" threads. Since when does a game have to appeal to everyone or it is
crap. When I first saw these threads it worried me, I played the game anyway
and grateful for that decision. Majority of the negative threads are just
ranting of why YOU don't like a game and because YOU don't like it everyone must
avoid it like the plague.

The biggest whine is about the real time skill training, which I can
understand. All the power levelers want to be able to put aside however many
hours to surpass everyone else. Like I said earlier, I came from WOW, a great
game but I don't have more than maybe 3 or so hours a day to play a game. I
don't want to fall extremely far behind everyone who can just dump time into a
game. This is a game for people who don't have time to dump and still want to
enjoy an online game.

So I don't have as much skills as the veterans but it really doesn't matter.
You're still able to play vital roles in a group and have tons of fun. I've
played eve for 6 months now and yet to feel like those who have played longer
are any better than me because you can still out smart and out play them as
long as you're willing to learn. The travel times are an issue but you really
shouldn't be jet setting all over the universe at a whim. The pirate corp I
play with operates within a certain region, so there’s no need for anymore
travel then you would experience in any other game

Eve
isn’t for everyone. No game is, you try it and if you don’t like it move on. If
you want to say why you don’t like then do so but at least you can try to be
constructive about it. I tend to think a lot of the negativity is just because
some have a childish anger that eve might be ranked higher than their favorite game,
well get over it.

I'm sure you'll be bombarded with "Yeah, but Eve's skeell training sukzX" type replies.  Welcome though.... or.... glad to have you with us... as you may not be new to the game.  Either way,

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

There are two types of people in this world - people that suck... and me.

    Well put.

Too many games now try to appeal to everyone and as a result lack anything to capture me for any amount of time.

Oblivion was a great example of this - it's essentially a dumbed down version of Morrowind to appeal to the console generation.

One of the reasons people love EVE so much is that CCP don't bow to this pressure.  They develop the game as they want it and don't get sidetracked trying to appeal to the mass market.  This of course leads to some people absolutely hating the game, thats understandable.  It also leads to those of us who share a similar vision of what makes a game great to love it.

Thats why it's still gaining popularity after 3 years.  Games like AC2, SWG, and many other MMOs started out strong but the driving force behind development went off track over time and they lost the popularity they once had.
