Getting Picture Down to 8 kb

Hey..i was wondering if anyone knew a way to get a picture down to 8kb for the avatar at this site....im at 16 kb right now.  Any suggestions?

    Lower the resoloution and make the picture smaller. You can send it to me and Ill resize it for you.

    Use GIF format and reduce the color palette to 64-128 colors.  This will drastically reduce the size and typically make a better looking result than an over-compressed JPEG.  Also, make sure that your image is 80x80 and not bigger...our system will shrink bigger images, but the results are usually not pretty :)

    Overall I think the amount of KB allowed in a image should be raised, 8kb usually causes you to butcher most images. Also its extremely troublesome to get it down to the allotted amount.

    naw 8k isnt that bad, you just need a decent image editng proggy to lower size but keep ql

    Yep, thats the way it works :)  Bandwidth is not cheap, especially when you need lots of it.  From here it gets cheaper though...once we upgrade to our next level of bandwidth the cost per GB will fall a bit.
