10 Reasons why people bash WoW!

AfritAfrit Member Posts: 288

I saw all these "10 reasons" for whatever threads and thought, "Hey, maybe someone should do one about why people bash WoW.

1. They lost something valuable on WoW.
2. They were hacked.
3. They're just bored and need something to do.
4. They do not understand that levels in different games cant compare (Like 1-60 in WoW and 1-100 in some other game)
5. They joined the servers with the most immature players and judged the whole game on that.
6. They take the game waaay to seriously.
7. Edited: Terrible customer service
8. Not used to WoWs simplicity and can never work out how to do anything.
9. Had a bad experience with the game, they want to ward people away from the game so that they dont have a good time either.
10. Always grind, never craft/roleplay - bash WoW for the grind (every MMO is a grind)
11. The PvP isnt as good as in other games, its more instanced and team based.
I know i'll get flamed for this, and i'll gladly make changes to the list if needed.

    Number 3

I was bored with it, so I quit.  Heck, 1.5 years is a long time, so Bliz deserves some credit afterall.  But all said an done, there is very little end-game unless you love to raid.  Not my thing, so time to move on.

People bash WoW for one simple reason. Its the top dog.

When it launched, people flocked there in droves. It may not be the "BEST" game on the market right now, but a subscriber base of 5 million +  is pretty darn impressive.

I rather enjoyed my time in WoW when I played. Unfortunately, I can't afford two MMO's right now and the sub cost for my current game is alot cheaper than WoW.

You might want to add one in that says something about the PVP. The "PVP" is different than most games that claim to have PVP.

If you look at it one way, WoW's "PVP" is more of a competition than a actual PVP game if you consider PVP games to be along the lines of UO, EVE, L2, DAoC, Shadowbane, or even RS for that matter.

The main thing that turned me off of WoW (last year) was the fact that I couldn't hunt like I wanted to. I wanted to go out and destroy players to get some honor points, but the world was desolate because everyone was either in Horde Territory or in an instance. I started going to Horde Territory and picking fights w/ ppl trying to get them to attack, but that got pretty lame pretty quickly.

No, I was not looking to go out and Gank. I f'ing pwned WoW 1v1 Combat and I was looking for ppl +-5 lvls of me. You know those guys adverstising on Gen "If you bet me 50s in a duel and you win I will give you 5g"....... yeah, that was me. I made a killing, even on my 56k (at the time) and a 6000ms ping.

Retired lvl 30 or so w/ 1000g or so after about 2 months. (I'm also very good at understanding how markets work and made a killing off lvl 60s buffing up their crafting skills ::::02::)

Even if a product is extremely popular it'll have its
    detractors.  It's neither interesting
news nor very relevant.  WoW is a mass
market appeal MMOG that set out and accomplished its goal more successfully
than any other MMOG in history.  These
are just raw facts that cannot be disputed and yet the ignorant and arrogant
will scream and yell against this wall for as long as their typing holds out.

Disliking it is just a simple preference.  When that dislike turns into overt hatred or
drives people to mount a soap box to “prove” that it’s awful then it has
crossed into the realm of insecurity issues.
    They could feel personally betrayed.
They could have a desire to prove how unique and special their taste in
games is by opposing mainstream.  They
could just have some irrational panic that every game will now copy WoW.  They could dislike facing the reality of how insignificant
and shunned their opinions are in the face of such overwhelming
popularity.  Or maybe, they’re just angry
for being born.  It matters naught.

At one point the criticism was borderline constructive or
interesting, now it’s degenerated to such a level that even the rationale
behind their hatred is laughable.  If
anything, the lengthy pages and pages of WoW flames just make the game look
that much better.  I’m almost tempted to
return; if that many fanbois make that much noise over something so trivial, which
should be apparent to everyone anyway, you know it must be doing something
    right.

People never make noise about the obviously terrible.  They stop engaging in it and move on
quietly.  It’s only the successful and
controversial that truly earns this much scorn.

The morning sun has vanquished the horrible night.

Thanks Zarcob, I've been trying to get that point across on these forums forever.

Basically, everying single feature in WoW was for mass appeal and it was the most successful by far, is the game good or is the game bad is irrelevant because it is a game with one goal and they got 100% on that goal.

So to people who love WoW, feel pride that you are one of the faceless masses that this game was designed for and for those who bash WoW, you should be grateful that you're not of the "cattle" who like this game.

I'm just joking on the cattle part.

    3 & 11 for me.

If I had not been exposed to DAoC pvp then i might have been content with the pvp in wow.Though luckily for blizzard most of its players have not played other mmorpg  ,which might explain ppl saying BG rock

I bash mainly due to the game is not innovative enough to meet Blizzard standards.  There is no doubt that Blizzard's Warcraft and Diablo were the pioneers on their time.  Warcraft was the first RTS (first popular at least), and many companies copied the format and created games such as Command and Conquer, up til recently, the popular Rise of Nations.  Many clones also followed Diablo.

I always considered Blizzard to be the leader in graphics for the PC games.  Comparable to Square-Enix's FF series for consoles.  Even though graphics doesn't matter too much for me, it's disappointing to see such terrible graphics from such a famous company.

Most important factors were the innovative game-play and the intricate story lines.  I don't see either of those here.  I tried looking for the story lines in WoW, but I just don't feel it.  Starcraft had such great story, and Warcraft III somehow topped it.  I was hoping WoW would be even better, but it just doesn't have the feel to it.

I bash the game because I thought Blizzard was a pioneer in the game industry.  Without Blizzard games, many titles would not be in the market today.  But Blizzard is no longer innovating, it took features from other games and mashed it together.  People may be "satisfied" with this game, but making this game so popular and profitable says that people wants to play games with these features, that's why I and other people complain.  It's to let developers know that the games are not yet acceptable for $13/month.  If the market is satisfied with a product, companies will stop innovating.  There wouldn't be cars today if people are satisfied with walking, if we're all satisfied with this game, then there wouldn't be the next game of the year.    Be glad for people who complains....

EQ2 has about 2 million... or more... Lineage II has something like 5 million too...  but people only see "WoW" as top dog.

I would really not like to put it out like that anyway. Lets say 10 people play Game A, 6 people play game B, and 4 people play game C. Even though game A is the leader above the others there are still enough people alltogether who chose not to play it.

    My point of view.

    11. The PvP isnt as good as in other games, its more instanced and team based.

The PvP is horrible, and doesn't fit a MMORPG at all. PvP in WoW is a pure copy of GuildWars PvP, which isn't a MMORPG at all. But Pvp was never ment for WoW, it was ment to be a PvE game, no doubt about that...

Its not true that other MMORPGs aren't team based in pvp though, thats basicly bull actualy :) All other MMORPGS have both huge faction wars, PLUS team/group based pvp.

    WoW pvp is just suck...........

Revamp the damn honor system, fire who ever thought of CTF and instanced pvp, and bring back world pvp, which means recode the engine so WoW dont crash when theres more than 2 people in the same zone. It's a lot of changes, but maybe the expansion can fix some, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Nah, lets just wait for Warhammer Online from Mythic, now that game will be ALL THAT..

    I only needed 3 reasons:

    1. BG PvP is the worst I've seen in an MMO so far. Capture the Flag PvP is good for UT2004 and other FPS games. In an MMO it is quite simply lazy game design. The complete abandonment of world PvP is, in my opinion their biggest mistake. The game is built around contested zones (on PvP servers), yet it is completely ignored.

    2. Raiding is the worst of all MMO game features. Boring, repetitive beyond belief and, yep, you guessed it, lazy game design.

    3. Over loading gear with insane stats. When your gear can beat another player by itself, there is a problem. Blizzard is on a runaway train with their gear sets, how long before +100 to stats is common on a single piece of  gear?

WoW was so potentially great, then they started taking shortcuts and now you have an MMO for toddlers.
