Thieves

I think this entire thread might be in error or I just missed something key to the subject matter. However, ShadowBane's Thief class has two trainable abilities (meaning you have to put 40 training points into each) that constitute stealing: Peek, so you can see what's in another creature's inventory (player or mobile) and Steal, so you can take any one item from their inventory per use of the Steal ability.

These abilities need to have each have 40 trains in them for stealing to be a viable act for a thief to do this is because there are 2 difficulties when stealing. Thieves stealing from mobiles have the lowest odds of not getting detected (meaning if I attempt to steal from 10 mobiles, which by-the-way can only be monsters, there is relatively a 20% chance that the monsters will detect me and start attacking) while on the otherhand if I steal from a player the chance of getting detected is a lot less (I think a player for some reason can only detect your attempt to peek into their inventory maybe 1 in 20-25 tries). As far as actually stealing there is still a chance of failure in using the steal ability. Currently it is speculated that the peek and steal abilities each have an 80% chance of success (2% for each train into each skill). It is unproven but until UbiSoft/WolfPack Studio's ShadowBane work force(s) release an official set of formulas, theories, and proven equations it will always be nothing more than speculation and in-game live testing.

Even the "Hide" and "Sneak" abilities have a set misfire rate namely if I try to hide (at 40 trains you are 40% translucent and have 1800 seconds of immobile invisibility) while standing you will go through all the animations, and as soon as it's over you'll be fully visible still. The same goes for "Sneak" (which when at 40 trains is 40% translucentcy, -10% movement speed, and 900 seconds of mobile invisibility).

As far as "Hide" and "Sneak" are concerned they definitely have their uses. Assassins use "Hide" to cast the spell "Passwall" which allows them to travel a screens distance as soon as the spell is done casting (the only catch being that when you use passwall it unstealths you). "Sneak" on the otherhand allows you to use an ability called "Backstab" which is used for dealing an additional 400 damage and boosting your attack rating by 100.2% (generally this will raise a thief or assassin's attack rating above 2000 as long as they have concentrated on their melee foci, generally dagger as their weapon focus and either dagger mastery or shadow mastery as their mastery skill for the weapon, this is dependant on if they are thief or assassin since assassins get shadowmastery as their focus line for spells, their special "Shadow Daggers," and their spells damage [Intelligence and Spirit effect it more]). Sorry for going off-topic there... I love thieves and assassinsimage

Anyway, Thieves can steal from most all creatures but at the same time because they get no magic and only are allowed defensive abilities that involve a more passive defense they are left quite very vulnerable (namely dodge and parry aren't nearly as good as a shield, helpful during regular PvP, but utterly useless against a projectile or a spell).  Overall they've balanced it... the main problems people have with thieves is that they are one of the best toons to play in the game (as far as fun factor goes)... there's action, thievery, and hours of laughs over the odd actions people make to try to get rid of you when they see you on track (an annoying ability to zero in on the exact location of a person within the world via a pointing arrow, the only catch is that they have to come close enough for track to actually be able to know they're around... basically you have a magical bloodhound).

It does work out.  I and many people I've met ingame have proven it just as most every other successful thief proves in the game (and technically if you succeed at ever stealing from a level 75 player when you're level 20 post some pictures on the UbiSoft boards they'll love you for it).

LMAO!!!! You my friend are what we humans call an idiot. Hide and Sneak make you completely invisible to all other players no matter what you have it trained to. The only way to be seen while in hide or sneak is to have hide/sneak trained below 20 and have someone with gear that allows them to see invis people or a scout can see gm hide/sneak but that is a profession spell.

    ROFLMAO 40% translucent lol
