Heyas all!

I have played pretty much every MMO I can get my hands on, and currently am playing D&D online, but this game keeps popping up and seems like something I might enjoy.
My fear is that it is "City Of Heroes with cars" like one reviewer said here.

I really didn't enjoy the blandness of CoH/CoV, but this seems to have more art direction.
anyways i would love some experiences you all could share from your time with the game, and if someone knows of a free trial, i'll give it a shot!

Thanks a ton

Well, CoH in cars isn't an entirely unfair comparison.  Neither is WoW in cars.  I mean, the basic gameplay is very similar to those games.  Both are very much quest/mission oriented like this game, more so with COH.  I won't go so far as to say that if you didn't like this game, you won't like this, however.  The reason is that what sets this game apart, the fast-paced and action-oriented combat, really makes it shine.

If you don't like the art direction in CoH, I'm not sure you'll like it here.  CoH had lots of distinct areas with neat sites and different enemies.  AA takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland over large stretches of terrain.  There *are* unique and fun sites here as well, but it's all pretty much a wasteland.  If you're into Auto Duel, Fallout, Wasteland, etc., as I am, then you'll love it.  If not, then it might not be for you.  This sounds like a personal preference thing.

I love the game... I think it's a hell of a lot of fun.  I'd give you my trial key, but I already gave it someone else.  Good luck!

hmm, quite interesting, I do love the theme, which is what attracts me, I just fear it turning into another level grind. How is the community? Friendly? engaging?

I apologize for not just trying it, but 50$ to try a game for a month is quite an investment, so I try to do some research first.

I heard about some Crafting as well in the game, which really appeals to me.

As for it being a level grind - I suppose you could classify ALL mmorpgs as level grinds.  That's just a matter of what you're looking for in the game.  Me, I play to have fun blasting enemies, socialize with friends, and explore new areas.  I really like it when I follow a story line through and learn what happens, only to find myself pitted up against a boss enemy.  After taking him down, I'm usually treated to another area to explore.  That's what I like.  But others enjoy just maxxing out their characters.  That's what's fun to them.  If you don't want to grind, you certainly don't have to.

The community in AA is small, friendly, and mature.  I spend more of my time chatting and socializing than I do completing missions.

The crafting is top notch.  Very in-depth crafting system.  You find raw materials from destroyed Old World buildings (pre-apocalypse) and you refine those into usable materials you can craft with.  You can then repair broken items found in the field (hopefully memorizing it in the process) or break a working one down and learn how it works.  Once you attempt to build something from its components, you can add other materials to it to experiment on it.  These experiments sometimes result in additional benefits to the item.  I think it's one of the best crafting systems I've seen.

The only thing CoH/V had was missions, skills and cool customes. AA has everything from customizable vehicle parts (wheels, armor, weapons, engines, etc) to a crafting system.

If you ask me, the only thing CoH/V and AA have in common is the mission system, and even that is different because AA has actually a story line in most of them, CoV/H where just random generated missions and a couple of contacts.

Personally, I find it has more in common with two of their other games, Guild Wars and Anarchy Online.  I'm seeing strong elements, especially from AO's combat and crafting system.  Oddly, of the four of their games I've purchased and played now, I find it least like City of Heroes/Villains. Or rather, the five of their games I've bought, if we count CoV as seperate from CoH

The controls are WASD to move.  The mouse controls the turret.

    Yes, the controls are configurable.

Danjak I remember Auto Duel!! I think that was a game on the commodore home computers, in the days!

Anyways, Auto Assault is truley a Fun game to play, the only way if you know you'll like it, is by either trying it out and seeing it for yourself. I was'nt disappointed with my purchase if that means anything to you

AA has nothing in common with WoW.But it does with CoH.It is fast pace action.

Now CoH lacked further customization(aka gear) and crafting.AA has both.It has a fun crafting which u gather components not by mindlessly hitting some rock but by actually fighting and killing.

also it has good upgrade for your vechile thru either looting, crafting or questing.

All in all its a fun game.

I honestly thought that I would probably regret my purchase of AA.
I bought it without knowing too much about it, then read a bunch of message boards about it, then almost didn't open it.

Anyway... I jumped in and am loving it! I really think this game will take off. Will it be a WoW killer? Nah... but it will be a successful mmo in my opinion.

Yeah, I think the word "addicting" sums it up quite nicely :)

I say AA is a fair game, but could use a few improvements(which is why im hesitating to buy it(was in beta). And i say its definately worth a shot.

But i have to butt in here.   From doing a bunch of missions in beta of AA i generally saw the same generic quests as was in world of warcraft.  But really without any sort of real...challenge.  You can honestly not read any quest log and just follow the arrows and generally be fine in AA.  Which was nice imho since the world wasn't exactly too "fun" to explore(tho i did come across a few neat areas).

In CoV/CoH the only randomly generated missions are from newspapers in cov, but there are tons of contacts(most offer more missions then just 1-2 on a guy and then off to the next guy).  And there are alot of very nice story arcs in CoH/V that contain great stories.  There also are some set missions which arent part of storylines on the contacts.  But they are not random.  All contact driven missions are pre generated.  The only difference is mob placement.  I could go about listing off dozens of really great story arcs, but thats not about this thread.

Just PLEASE don't spout off complete inaccuracies about a game.
