I agree Warhammer is where many gamers are putting their hope. The fact that the release is so far away and the hype is already so high proves it.
There isn't a great selection of great or even good MMORPGs on the market right now. Add in games with any thing near decent PvP and to got pretty much nothing. We all know DDO was going to crash, we all knew RFO was going to bomb out. We all know Auto Assault is just a bit to far away form the norm to fly well.
DAoC spoiled many of us. People that never played DAoC in it's prime probably think WoW has great PvP, or lineageII or shadowbane have great PvP. Pfft... It's like black and white tv compared to color. If you never seen a color tv black and white seems pretty awesome, but once you see a color tv your ruined for life, and will never fully enjoy black and white to the same lvl again. Ignorrence is truely bliss.
People that never played DAoC can run around in happy bliss, pot spaming, or pointlessly killing other players. Sadly I can't do that, I know there is PvP that is better (for me) then what any of the MMOs out now in their current form can offer. It saddens and fruterated that I can't find it today. If DAoC showed me 3-5 "classic servers" with populations breaking 3000 at prime time and not dropping below 800 at off hours, I would be back in a day. People are what makes a MMO (otherwise you pay console), DAoC realm system unified people, there was little intra-faction competition, none of this "We were the first guild to kill Boss XXX", instead it was what realm would kill that boss first that mattered. When someone hit cap lvl they were another "ally" not another person to compeat with for groups. Unified. Numbers are so low at certain times now, it can't be at the same lvl it was when I left it. That is the reason I left it, ToA and bots caused players to fade out, 11am numbers used to be over 1000 people, when I left they are at maybe 280-500. 500/3 means maybe 90-160 other people online in my realm. Today 5 servers combinded together can hardly break 1000. That's like 1000/5/3=rolleyes.
That's why so many people said they should make a DAoC2. Simply because it will bring people back and boost the server populations again. However, the head huncho said he doesn't believe in putting 2 after any name so we are left waiting for warhammer and hoping.
I agree, that Mythic spoiled many people on RvR. It has yet to be surpassed. Yes Mythic had some balance issues, but in any PvE/PvP setting it's impossible to have true balance.
Come on WAR, please deliver the goods! Otherwise I am going to have to start going out and partying every night which just ends up costing too much dang loot.
