A funny glimpse in to the future of Vanguard...

Expansion 3 comes out for Vanguard:SoH titled "Alternate Universes: Planes of Power discovered."

Features:

- Everquest 1 players will now be able to venture forth to the world of Vanguard

- Completely new armor and weapon sets!  (Sorry, but the mobs you have to kill to get this new gear will be beyound the abilities of your current gear.  Besure to bring 200 of your best friends to help you get 1 piece of the new gear after a 3 hour fight)

- New epic weapons.  Yes.  After 5 years of development, we have decided that you deserve the right to have a weapon that glows and sparkles!  No more dull weapons!  Just grab 200 of your best friends, kill 10 raid bosses, hunt a rare thing-a-ma-jig that has a drop rate of 1 in 1,000,000,000,000, and bring it back to Bob at the local store.  He will walk in the back room (door unlocked), and bring back your sparkly uber epic sword!  Woot.  (note: epic weapon stats will never be upgraded and hense will be obsolete when we release our next expansion due out in 3 months)

- Improved In-game support.  Yes.  No more waiting 10 hours in a GM support call que just to get some person that barely speaks English to tell you "sorry you lost your golds.  I can not be helping you with these matters.  Thank you for using Vanguard and have a nice day."  No not any more.  From now on, you just type /gmhelpme and a GM npc will be summoned to your location.  Hail him and he will immidiately say "sorry you lost your golds.  I can not be helping you with these matters.  Thank you for using Vanguard and have a nice day."  No more waiting!  woot!

Special Boxed Feature:

- Big boobied blow up doll of John Smedley

- Special In-game Item ONLY AVAILABLE IF YOU BUY THE BOX VERSION that will not be available until a few days after the digital download is released.  (Tshirt for your character that upon inspection reads "I HEART SoE")

Specail Notice:

Due to the fact that we had to hire a programmer to create and maintain the GM Support bots program and even though we saved a ton of money by firing the live GM in-game support staff in India, we are going to have to increase the monthly cost of the game from $16.95 a moth to $19.95 a month.  But, fear not because we are going to be using this extra cash flow to bring you new features!  For instance, we are going to make a website where you can talk to the GM Bots via a website for when you want to discuss an in-game issue while you are at work.  The same great GM Bots will be available over the WEB.  (This feature will cost an additional $1.95 a month, but fear not because we have already auto-enrolled all customers in to it as of last month's billing cycle, so you didn't miss out paying!)

Your witty posts fail to make me laugh when you manage to not understand the difference between a publisher and a developer.

You are right, i think that you nailed it. Most people don't understand how does work the relationship publisher/developer.

Most people that have decided to forget about vanguard dont know what's SOE's role in the partnership and if they knew they would probably say that they did a good move.

I will try to explain it.

Publisher: they fund the game, distribute the game, market the game, collect the royalties...
Developer: they make the game, take most of the design decisions...

Right now Sigil has moved from Developer to developer and publisher, they no longer depend on another company to fund their game, since they are now finacially independent they needed someone to pubish their game, market it and host the servers(since they aren't experienced enough to do it) so they went to SOE. Soe was not going to accept it without any compensation, so sigil offered them to add vanguard to their station pass suite and an small part of the profits.

SOE agreed and they made the deal, Sigil will get most of the money, they will get their game in the station pass suite something that will help both sigil and SOE. Sigil gets more creative freedom, they get as much time as they want(as long as they can get enough funds).

Since SOE is not providing the funds they cannot interfere in the development unless Sigil allows them(they may get advantage of  some things that soe has developed like patching systems, cross game chat system...)

If the rumors are right Microsoft was pressign them to release before they were ready and that was the reason because they decided to part ways with them. SOE will be unable to do it, since they dont have any realy power over sigil (unlike microsoft used to have).

To the OP while i think that your "glimpse" is somewhat funny it's based on uncomplete or false information since SOE doesn't have any control over Vanguard's development.

Well said. I think more people need to read and understand that instead of making emotional decisions on faulty information.

While it is true that some people are of the curretnly mistaken belief that SOE will have some input to the games design (which may change in the future), some of us are leary of SOE and are basing our decision on the fact that SOE will be receiving some of the money we will be giving Sigil. That is something that I personally cannot bring myself to do. Maybe it is emotional, but if you get swindled by someone once, you aren't too thrilled about giving them money again and you feel compelled to try and warn people that they may be putting themselves into a potentially compromising position.

If you will be subscribing to this game, I wish you the very best of luck and happiness. I also hope that you receive and get to keep the game the way you want it and that you have a better experience, with whatever part SOE plays, than alot of us have had.

    Respectfully,

What happens when SOE buys them out like they bought out EverQuest from Verant Interactive?  SOE is a MMO giant that carrys a big and looming shadow,  unfortunately.  I hope it doesn't happen but it's definetely a possibility.

its common sense, what is stopping soe from buying sigil regardless if they are a co publisher or not? what is stopping ms from buying sigil after launch and totally changing everything?

yeah either scenario could happen, but isn't that true with like everything? after all it is business.
