hmmm why are they allowing for a rollback with EQ, and not SWG?
this is like the ULTIMATE "FU!" to star wars galaxies ex-subscribing vets
maybe i was misinformed today by my bud? is this a false rumor? ( i dont check EQ boards anymore, dont have the gumption to )

EQ and EQ2 are SOE's cash cows. They don't care about the rest.

As ye SOE, so shall ye weep.
The way I understand the "regression" servers in EQ is that they will start out as classic and as guilds complete certain milestones for that timeframe, the next expansion will be opened. Essentially, applying this to SWG would mean that you would have to go through hologrind, village, CU, NGE, JTL, RotW, ToOW, etc again....
I don't think anyone wants that.
The reason SWG will never get a rollback is that it's been rehashed so that a 9 year old PS3 user with a controller and less braincells than teeth can play it.
The other $OE MMOs don't need to meet this criteria.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

It sounds great, so great in fact, I pitty those who canceled - Some deluded SWG fanboi who pities me.
I don't like it when you say things. - A Vanguard fan who does too.

Dumb fuckers. They hate money. What can I say...
Because the introduction of any 'Classic' servers would totally crush what is left of the NGE playerbase. I suspect even the most rabid NGE fanbois would jump ship given the actual opportunity to do so (no matter what they say).
/sigh. I think the offering of classic servers is the only way we may ever see the SWG we loved again, and the possibility of it ever happening is abysmally (a word I relate to NGE) low.
2 points:
1.) If they made a rollback server, that would be admitting they were wrong and as you can see now, they just aren't going to do that, even though they are wrong.
2.) If they made a rollback server, there would be no one left on the NGE servers and the new server would be too overcrowded.
but the EQ progression servers will have all the same "rules" as far as combat and functionality goes as all the other EQ servers.
The "classic" aspect is that the players will have to unlock everything as though the game is starting fresh. so there's really no need to be jealous.
I missed old swg.

If they ever open a "classic server", I believe it will be after they "finish" NGE and it has acquired a larger subscription base than Pre-CU had. The build is currently too broken to give people a choice, they'd all switch to the classic servers and never give the NGE a second look -- no matter how great it turns out to be.
I don't think they want to lose most of their paying beta testers to their own classic server.

well im assuming your new to SWG and have started since the CU or NGE ...
but words like " finish" and "great" and "growth" have been used by SOE many, many, many times over the last three years .. and they've never even come close to making a completed product ...
people like me who were SWG vets, know this truth all too well.. whether it be the " smuggler revamp" which never happened .. the " ranger revamp" the "docotor revamp" the "entertainer revamp" ... the CU .. the NGE ... they have never finished one thing before moving to the next ...
the jedi Force ranking system and the jedi "councils" never finished
we couldnt use our mining ships for a year ( a whole year and probably still cant, i wouldnt know because i quit before they fixed it ) ... quests are still broken ( truth) since the start of the game three years ago ... there are even NPC character who's coding was bugged and didnt show up in game .. youd see a Huge odd looking CUBE ... with a name on it ... and SOE never fixed it ....
the NGE will never be complete .. and this game has so much bad press now .. it will never retain a substantial amount of subscribers .... and i still suspect .. LA will not let their cash cow be crippled in the MMO market for ever .... you will see a NEW Star Wars MMo come out from SOE .. or .. you will see Sony loose the license and someone else pick it up ...
i know deep down ... that LA doesnt want sony to develope or market this game anymore ... but its hard to combat a mega-coporation like sony in business .... sony does NOT want to give up this license, because it would be a blatant and frank signal that they screwed up .. and the press and gaming industry would eat whatever little positive image sony has left ... right up ...
I think they want to but the game wasn't making the money they needed to keep it rolling so they had to cut back on staff. Once they cut back on staff they couldn't put as much into the game as they wanted to so they had to create a new system since they were losing staff members and such. The NGE can be run with a skeleton crew now. It is a way to make money faster and easier. It is easier to run and easier to fix. This is what I think.
I am in no way supporting SOE or their business practices I am just stating what I believe happened.

Easier to do anything, no.
They just cut down on staff. Saved tons of cash, and now the remaining 2 maintainance programmers will do what they can to fix bugs, and add "enhancements".

Yeah, I've started playing at launch, which is why "finish" was in quotes (that means it isn't supposed to be read literally.)
What I mean to be saying is that SOE isn't going to set up Pre-CU servers until they have NGE to the point where they're confident that the majority of people will choose to stick with NGE over Pre-CU. They're having enough trouble getting people to stick with their work-in-progress without going out of their way to provide a viable alternative for people.
