Ive been thinking the past few days about this whole situation. I have posted quite a few comments trying to defend Vanguard but its just such a huge battle I think the only thing to do is to just stop fighting back. Let the people who are angry about this whole thing be angry, there is nothing wrong with being angry. I figured out that trying to defend Vanguard will only make things worse. I think its time for people to start taking a step back and just let this big flame go out. I don't think its going to help the Vanguard community at all if everyone keeps trying to win. If you dont want the game anymore then quietly go out, maybe say your part of why your leaving if you feel the vanguard community should know (freedom of speech) but flaming in the forums multiple times and constantly fighting back will not lead to anything.
Cheers

yeah at first i kept quiet and just read the rants (most of them i understand totally) but it started to get ridiculous and for some reason i felt the need to defend sigil.
even though my initial reaction was very similar to all the soe haters, and i still think it wasn't a great idea to involve soe I'm not going to refuse to play it because soe is publishing the game i would really like to play.
but yeah alot of people are heated and needed to vent their frustrations on these forums, and that is what they are here for. but to the trolls that never really liked vanguard and are just here to....well troll, i just want you to know that i hate you and i would really appreciate it if you stepped out in front of a train....lol j/k
read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
I felt the same, initialy i was just reading the rants and i felt that i had to defend sigil. Like you my initial reaction was very similar to the haters, then i began reading Sigil's reasons and while i didn't agree with them about hiring SOE i understood that they had no option other than going to SOE.
I sincerely hope things cool down for Sigil. It is after all, their game and they need to do what they feel is best for the game. Not every one will agree no matter what they choose. While it is good for developers to listen to their community, they can't allow the community to make the important decision otherwise they can fall into an endless cycle of changes to try and make this group or that group happy. In the end everyone gets upset and the game get weaker. I applaud those that decide to lay down the flame throwers and accept what the devs decide (on any issue) or take their torch and move on.
I wish the best of luck to Sigil. There is stll a constant flame war on the MMORPG.com/SWG forums that has been going on for 6 months, but then again neither side will let things cool down there.
It will be ahuge positve if this merger gets rid a lot of the bandwagon jumpers, kills much opf the hype and makes Vanguard more of a hardcore niche game. If people need an excuse to leave then thats great. I am in no way happy about SOE being involved but I still love the concepts and hope this news will get rid a lot of the kiddies that like to follow whatever game is being hyped.
I've never got in a flame war about SWG. If some one likes the current game then good for them and I hope they have fun. But SOE is something that I will not support. I have been watch Vanguard for a while and hoping that it would be a great game but there is no chance that I'll even consider buying it with SOE involved.
Now I know it makes little difference if I buy the game or pay a monthly fee. I nor others like me that lost faith in SOE to do the right thing for its customers really don't matter as SOE has proven by kicking us to the curb and going after a different target audience.
Best of luck to Sigil you're goin' need it. Most things that get cancer have no choice but Sigil goes out and signs a contract with one!
I don't claim to be right, I'm just posting.
For SOE, who already has quite a few games, many of them online and several of them massively multiplayer, having lots of options for their station pass is a good thing. Players want options, and while many MMOG players focus on only one game at a time, many others do not and like to be able to either play several (the more hard core player), or even focus on one but dabble with others.
For those people, the Station Pass is really neat because they can play Planetside, EQ 2, EQ 1, etc. all for one price. Now add Vanguard into the mix. While it is a high fantasy MMOG and in many ways similar to EQ 1 and 2, it is also very different in terms of design philosophy and target audience, and it also has technology in it that is cutting edge (beyond any other MMOG of which I am aware). Plus, lots of new ideas like diplomacy, but built on a solid proven MMOG foundation (such that regardless of how popular, say, diplomacy turns out, the game remains a great game, because it's not a house of cards -- if some of the more revolutionary ideas in Vanguard don't pan out as well as we hope, while there is inter-sphere dependence built into the game, the game still plays fine).
So anyway, despite the similarities at the superficial level, EQ 1, EQ 2, and Vanguard have a lot of core differences which again is good for SOE because it offers more choices to players, and it also allows them to attract that many more players with differing tastes. Contrast this to, say, Blizzard, who has but one choice, and I think SOE is really onto something. Now, don't take that the wrong way -- not only is WoW a great game, it's plainly obvious it is also very successful from a financial standpoint.
But still, when thinking about the long term, having a suite of online titles to offer your playerbase, many of which are MMOGs that each have different target audiences (e.g. due to their design and mechanics appeal to different types of MMOG players) there is a strong argument for strength in numbers. So adding Vanguard to the mix I think filled a spot for them that was empty -- EQ 2 is more casual, and EQ 1 getting older (though still going strong) and having been around for so long, and having been changed so much, I think a newer game like Vanguard that is a bit more hard core makes a lot of sense for them.
awesome, i agree 100%
People need to understand that someone is really pissed off about this situation and need to vent their frustration.
I posted few times to express my disappointment, after that I think I won't be bothered to visit this forum anymore.
I am not interested neither to defend or attack a game I am not interested in.
Still you will have lots of new trolls who will come into these boards thanks to the Soe affair, good luck with that.
