I have installed and set up the 10 day MO trial. Through the subscription process it asks you for your credit card details, as many other MMO's do. Generally this is done to verify the players age.
Once you enter the CC details into your account at MO, the 10 day trial is gone (thats right, no free play for you) and you start subscription straight away.

I can understand them wanting your CC details etc, but why in the world would anyone want to give up the free 10 days, and start paying straight away.

So Sony might have gotten one off payment of $15 from me this time, but lost a lot more in terms of my subscriptions to all their other offering (as I am cancelling all of them). Once again, Thank you Sony

You need to take a stand and shout "I f#ck you up $ONY!"

Contact your credit card company/bank & chargeback the money.

heck, I read this thread before putting in my key, and still ended up at the cc info page::::04::::::07::
knew I'd gone one button too far then, but still, just goes to show how creative they were in setting the pages up.

There's an entire sticky on the MxO boards becase of how....
    'interestingly' it was set up.

I'd say it's a safe bet SOE wanted to imply you needed to enter the cc info, just so they could get as many 'accidental' subscriptions as possible. This way they get at least one month out of a few thousand, and the few who actually fight it and get their money back won't be more than a minor blemish on the profits.

Not a scam, just badly worded/designed.

Had the same issue my self, after about a week of fighting with SOE just got an email saying they will credit me back (had to email some Sr Acct admin), for more info http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53482

They will refund your money if you keep making a big deal of it, I posted my story on a couple of forums plus my site and kept sending them links to all of it, plus the parts of their EULA and TOS that contradict each other and just kept hownding them, they will credit you back eventualy just to make you shut up and go away.

    good luck!

you can also call your credit card company and tell them what has happened.  Tell them that you signed up for a 10 day free trial, and they charged your before the triel even started.  Say that you wont pay this amount because you never wanted it and that the error is on SOE.

In all likekyhood, visa or MC or whatever will just remove the transaction form the record.  I had problems like this with other online stuff, and it works.

Also, for the record, you do not need to input your CC to get a trial.  (for the future users)

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

The message clearly said that your trial was activated and that if you wanted to fully subscribe to the game you should press the "continue" button (which you did, apparently).

However, they simply shouldnt have placed that button there - who on earth would want to instantly subscribe to a game for which he/she just activated his/her trial account...

how else is SOE going to make money?

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

This is something they already know about... If you would take the time to read the forums, then you would know about it.  After you get your CD Key, all you have to do is close out of the form.  You DO NOT need to put credit card info in, in order to play the free trial.

    Thanks for listening..

Yep, and if you DO put your CC in by mistake all you have to do is call to get it refunded.  If the rep gives you grief over it point out that it's listed as a bug in their database.

No this post is completely accurate! I was also charged the 14.99 monthly fee when attempting to sign up foer the free trial.  SOE customer service agent on the phone, he told me by entering my CC info, I elected to forgo the free trial offer and begin my subscription.  He also told me by article five of the EULA that I was not entitled to a refund because my money was now time in the game and not actual money anymore so therefore could not be refunded.  He went on to say, before hanging up on me, that it was a known issue that many people were having, but would not be resolved.  I cant believe that a major corporation like SOE would use purposely misleading wording to scam gamers out of $15.  I have been a faithful subscriber to most of their games over the last five 7 years, but this is a rediculous and pathetic scam from a company I will never purchase product from again.
