Well Sony's Pre-E3 confrence was today. They showed their "new" controler, which some believe is just a hoax/gimick. Its basically a dumbed down version of the Wii-mote, its just a basic dual shock controler, but wireless and has 6 degrees of motion detection, making it also useable as a steering wheel for a racing game or throttle/steering for a flight sim, it has to be near and aimed at the general direction of the console to work, and is very limited (hince the "6 degrees of motion detection", whereas the Wii-mote is 360 degrees, can be used anywhere, from any angle, anyway) to just that, simple function.

The funny thing about this is not Sony basically stealing the idea from Nintendo's controler (yes I am aware that their were many incarnations of the Wii-mote before this...like Microsofts joystick for the PC many years ago, but nothing has been as refined and extrodinary as the Wii-mote), but when Nintendo first unvieled its controler, Sony laughed at it and basically said it was stupid. Sony copying ideas from other companies? Never....

Also Square-Enix showed off Final Fantasy 3 for the DS /drool, I cant wait for this one, only FF game ive never played. FF 12 also had a little showing, its gonna be on the PS3 and not the PS2 like origionaly stated, their are 3 screenshots on Gamespot, graphics look damn nice but the combat looks kinna cluttered and the interface is crap.

Oh and the PS3 is launching November 17th in the US, 2 million units. A 20gig HD version will be $500 and the 60gig version will be $600, so the extremely high price rumors were basically true.

If it is I cant help but laugh. But I doubt it, they are gonna have at least NWN2 there.

Didn't Bioware say they weren't announcing anything about their new MMO at E3?

That's right, there was never going to be any mention of their MMO at this years E3, probably don't have much to show right now and they are getting more free press about it by keeping people guessing.

BioWare just announced the formation of their MMO - that means they haven't even hired staff yet. If they've got ANYTHING done on the project, it's a barebones design document with abstract goals listed. MAYBE a prototype using old Neverwinter Nights models. I promise you, they aren't going to announce what the game is any time soon, and they certainly aren't going to show it at the E3 (or likely the next one either).

Yeah, its far to early for anything about their MMO. Id say Jade Empires for the PC and NWN 2 will be it.

And supposedly LucasArts is making a "BIG" announcement today as well. Whoop-de-doo.

Hopefully it's that they're firing Julio Torres and replacing him with Chris Roberts.

    Hi all,

It was my understanding from this forum that a big announcement regarding SWG [that will save it supposedly] was suppose to made this week by SOE and / or Lucas Arts [not BIOWARE]. Also, as stated earlier in this post;  the official E3 events didn't start till today [yesterday was a meet and greet type deal]. Personally I would like very much to hear some good news about SWG. But I suspect that we will not here anything, or at the most it will not be that big of an announcement to most of us VETs.

    IMO,

Several Dev Threads regarding E3 over at the Bioware site had phrases like:

"We have SOME big announcements, plus a FEW SURPRISES."

Now, whether or not the Jade Empire news is a big announcement, or a surprise is the real question.

More will be coming from them this week, but who knows what it will be?

There have been several devs posts over on the official boards saying they where going to show some big stuff that was supposed to be coming soon, as of yet there isn't even any mention of swg being shown there at either the $oe booth or LEC booth.

Last I had heard BioWare specifically stated they're not going to talk about their MMO at E3.  Dunno how they would, they haven't even hired anyone for it yet.   Their austin office, where it's theoretically going to be made, isn't even open yet.

The only "big news" I had heard about, regarding the MMO industry was:
    1) SOE/LEC have some kind of big announcement about SWG
    2) Sigil has news on Vanguard (probably the SOE thing)

I hadn't heard anything else "big" being announced at E3.  At least not in regards to MMORPG industry.

As for the PS3 coming out in November?  I'll believe it when it happens.  Last I heard from a buddy at Sony is that they're still working on several major kinks in the damn thing :)  LOL

And anyone who pays $500 for a damn console is crazy.  PC is better for gaming by far.  And for like $200 more you can get a better gaming rig on a PC and not have to tie your TV up just to play a damn game.

You obviously haven't seen the specs for that system. The Blu-Ray drive alone is 500 bucks.

The funny thing about the price for the PS3 is Sony's logic. Shayde points at something very true about the PS3: It's an AMAZING machine. It WILL be, by far, the most advanced machine on the market.

Sony has said that their dedicated fan base will make the investment for the machine, and they're banking on it since the rumor is that the P3 will cost 2.2 times to produce & distribute OVER the retail cost, plus whatever marketing costs they'll incur. So Sony is DEPENDING on the unit selling, inorder to sell titles (rumored to be $60-$70 each) and redeem their losses.

But as Sony's own reasearch shows (and they brag about), Sony's PS fans are much younger than the 360's and have MUCH less disposable income to spend. That alone is a MAJOR flaw in their logic, and in a real way, they're in REAL trouble with the PS3.

Gaming Machine Companies make their cash off of Licesning, not the sale of the Machine. In truth, it can take years for the machines to become profitable, and it usually doesn't happen until the machines are outdated and marketed to the poorer markets (the Original PS is still sold new around the world to take advantage of this).

Sony has gambled that their potential customers will have that level of cash, and will choose to spend double on the machine, and 25% - 35% more for each title. Considering their Target Market does not have a lot of disposable income, have had a year to see/play the 360 & usually have access to PC's, this is either a genius move or suicide, and starting to look like suicide.

If the quality of the PS3 was 2.2 times that of the 360, their product might stand out enough to make such a bold move, but as it stands, it's not that big of a gaming step over the 360, and they may just be pricing themselves right out of the market. Add into that the rumors that there is another version of the 360 in the works, and right before the PS3 is launched it will be added to the lineup at the highend price and the other 360's will each drop by $100, the PS3 seems like it may the THE biggest mistake in gaming history.

I'll go on record now predicting that unless something MAJOR changes in/with the PS3, it will Flop like a fish out of water in every market except Japan, and there, it will not meet it's target sales.

I could care less about the bioware announcement, just as much as I cared about warhammer-online. I mean really, who gives to $#@! about yet-another-fantasy-mmo? A little invovation would be nice, but I highly doubt it is coming out of bioware.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    or Soe for that matter.

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...

when that PS3 comes out the crime rate will sky rocket. Have you ever seen their dedicated playerbase to games like Madden 2006?

Jade Empire and NWN 2 yeah. Dungeon Runners is an NCSOft game and also developed by them, has nothing to do with BioWare.

Personally I don't think BioWare's new MMO is going to have anything to do with Star Wars. However, I do hope it's sci-fi and not fantasy.

Yea my mistake. I just got email from NCsoft about their E3 lineup and that was one of the games, jarred my memory.
