And just to preempt the fanbois of the other MMORPGs who claim that free trials are a sign of failure, couple of things: 1) almost EVERY mmorpg offers or has offered a free trial, even WoW, which is the most successful MMOG in the USA right now, 2) I believe this shows great confidence in the game. It shows that if you just TRY it.... you'll probably like it. Or love it even!
Anyway, get the word out. And thanks, NCSoft!!

As for AA, the free trial is more than likely because of the low populations on the servers. I've been playing now for about a week and a half on a 14-day free trial, and 3 of the 4 servers always report "very low" in their population, and one (the server I've been playing on) is always "low".
The game just came out, if I'm not mistaken, so I expect these are typical start-up tactics in a competitive MMO market. I don't think it has anything to do with failure, at least I personally wouldn't draw that conclusion just yet.

As ye SOE, so shall ye weep.
As for it being a "very bad sign," WoW offered a free trial almost immediately as did EQ2 (EQ2 allowed you to play the newbie island for free right at launch). AA is a great game now and if people give it a chance, they'll see that for themselves.
I've always wished MMO games release a free trial ASAP after launch. Free trials are always requested by it's players and non-players. I find it to be a good thing that a free trial is available so soon, and it's a free trial that does not require your credit card. I played AA during beta, and found it to be an interesting niche.
Huh? What's free? AA isn't free, but the 14day trial is free, but once that 14day trial expires, you'll have to purchase AA from your shop, so that you can resume your characters.
