PVP or PVE??

Just wanted to know what kind of play type you are into. I personally hope there are some non pvp servers because my friend is a puss and hates gettin beat on by other players. I have descriptions for each below.

Chaotic Pvp-Anywhere, anytime example World of Warcraft (sorta) *You can engage another player in combat anywhere regardless* - Walking up to a lvl 1 who's afk in town just to see if you can 1 shot them
Battleground Pvp-Special Zones example WoW-WSG,AB,AV *Special zones or areas you enter to battle in PvP combat*
Zone PvP-Certain areas of the continent example WoW STV *PvP in zones that are not under any control in game by anyone*
Semi Chaotic Pvp-Same as chaotic but not able to pvp in settlements
Other PvP- PvP only allowed in an Arena/Duels
PvE- Opposite of PvP, PvE combat is the killing of non player controlled characters.
Conquest PvP- Castle seiges, taking territory etc.

Chaotic PvP... Thats just me... If you dont have something to keep the lowbies away from you then  looting/ks starts...

Then I must say Lineage 2 is not a good example for this "chaotic pvp", Since you actually get Red /Purp etc that MIGHT keep some people away from you if they dont want to pvp at all ( + cp bar)...

Lineage is a mixture of all the pvp styles mentioned above
    ...
    Battleground PvP: Battle Tournament
    Zone PvP : Sieges
Semi Chaotic PvP: You CANT fight at settlements
Other PvP: Got Arenas / Coliseums

PvE is not a style of  PVP

I went for semi-chaotic. Would have went for Chaotic but im not for the high lvls randomly killing low levels, its just a piss off to people who are low. I personally dont care about this, but if it was implemented to many people would get mad and leave. But then again if there is enoguh who wanted it, the server could be amazing.

Yea that's my mistake i shoulda prolly used World Of Warcraft as the example. I never said PvE is a style of pvp it actually says the opposite, but i'll elaborate on that.

I voted semi-chaotic pvp because as much as I love freeforall I think new players should get some protection.

What I AM looking for is mass pvp. In Lineage 1 and 2 this is in the form of castle sieges and clan wars. In AO there were tower raids and such. WoW doesn't really have anything to compare in this category.

    MMO Fav List:
    Lineage 2 | 5x Silver Ranger, 7x Shillien Elder <- Active
    WoW | 6x Rogue, 1x Priest
    Anarchy Online | 8x MetaPhysicist
Saga of Ryzom | Matis Light Armourer

Waiting for: Age of Conan, Lineage 3

I think blizzard made it so it's very difficult to attack towns because my friends and I assaulted Lakeshire a few nights ago and the guards just respawn so fast it's not even possible to do.

From the list mentioned I would like to experience Conquest PvP the most. Where there are tactical elements hanging above a battle as well as a time limit. It pushes the mind to make quick decisions within a small amount of time. AoC city battles excites me because it's just what I am looking for. A few other upcoming MMORPG's will have this also such as Warhammer Online and I think Tabula Rasa.

This is a well-thought poll. To tell you the truth I thought this was just another argument between PvE'ers and PVP'ers. I was wrong.

I think the PvP in WoW is pretty worthless. It doesn't really matter if you win or lose. That is one of the aspects that makes AoC look really cool to me.

Oh, I picked chaotic PvP as my choice in the poll.

The autolvling system sounds sweet! No more getting griefed

I vote conquest, I think it's difficult to make conquest fun in a persistent world, but if they can pull it off I'd like it the most.  Otherwise, chaotic with heavily fortified towns for low-levels.

    What's the autoleveling system?

  • Database82Database82 Member Posts: 179
In AoC they have something called a autolvl system, the autolvl system makes it harder for higher lvls to come up and grief lowbies. Basically if you are a lvl 20 being attacked by a lvl 35 player your combat strength and abilities will be boosted to match the lvl of your attacker. So though you are a lvl 20 and a lvl 35 attacks you, you will gain the strength to fight off your attacker and be fighting at a lvl 35's lvl.

    Carebears heh in AOC :P

and for PVP i really enjoy all forms of it :) its mostly based on the company i am playing with and the amount of fun i  get out of it :)

Chaotic PVP :) or any form of Siege warfare will make me happy i think.

conquest pvp  = take over stuff ? and keep it ? .. if so that sounds fun :)

  • nopecnopec Member Posts: 3
Chaotic pvp! While battlegrounds are fun you can't replicate the feeling of running around a zone and having to constantly watch your back. Many games have the "epic battle between X and Y" yet restrict pvp so much. Chaotic pvp brings in that true sense of war.

I am ready to full PvP that have somekind meaning (conquerer land, steal money, stealing babies, acquire new slaves to your harem, etc.) and there is no character classes or levels. Why not character classes or levels? Because with those elements PvP is only paper-scissor-rock game.

Of course, this is not going to happend in AoC, so I did choose PvE.

THAT is a cool idea. However, what if a group of low levels sits their with one of them as bait, waiting for highers to attack and form a lowbie gank squad? Admitedly, this isn't likely since who wants to attack someone below you when its NOT going to be any easier than anyone else, but still. Its a minor concern.

As far as PvP, I'm all for Conquest! I prefer my PvP to actually have a purpose outside of bragging rights/loot.

I'd say that would be a perfectly valid tactic, and is used in many mmo's and in real life quite often.

Game should have a mix of chaotic pvp and sieges. Like Lineage2. No rules, so the community have to create their own rules ingame. That will motivate players in the long term.

instance pvp sucks hardcore.  did people not learn anything from wow?  that is the worse pvp in the history of mmo's.

using wow as an example of chaotic is funny.  its not ffa pvp its factioned, nobody pvp's outside of an instance because that where the "uber hp's" are ...

hopefully it will be more SB like in terms of taking towns and open pvp.  we need more games of the "big sandbox" model and far less dumby downed, kiddy, cartoon world, pvp light crap thats being prodiced now.
