Is this game for me?

Turtleneck37Turtleneck37 Member Posts: 91

I have played various mmos over the years

eqoa which is the everquest for the playstation also WoW and Final Fantasy XI

eqoa captured my intrest for the longist time because it was a fast paced group based game
WoW i didnt like much because i felt like i didnt build many friend ships because you could play through the game completly by your self almost
FFXI on the other hand i think is a wonderful game one of the most indepth games ive ever seen but i think it may be too slow paced for me it takes hours some times to get a party going and it just takes hours to do any thing you need atleast 4 hours to play that game to acomplish any thing.

I have watched various videos for guild wars and it seems interesing
i was wondering what are the game play aspects?

Does it compair to wow in the gameplay it kind of appeared as that kind of style which is fine i like fast pased games i just dont like soloing i enjoy making friends while i play i think it makes for a more wholesome gaming expierence but at the same time are their any solo aspects to the game?

Is there any crafting or tradeskills in this game and are they worth the time commitment?

how much of a time commitment would i need to get something out of it?
that is one thing i liked about wow i could play 2 hours a night or 8 hours a day and still enjoy my self

How hard is it to farm?

Is there a big learning curve and is this game noob friendly?

And really how enjoyable does every one find this game to be?

For thoughs who chose to reply thank you for your time.

There arent any player crafting or tradeskills in the game. The closest you will get is by trading in some loot (like bones) in for items.

Its skill based, so it doesnt matter how long you play, you wont have an advantage over other players who've played less of it. You can log into Guild Wars and play for even about 10mins or a long time like 4hours and still have a great time.

I dont know much about this, im afraid.

You will need skill to play this game PvP, but the PvE area of the game trains up "noobs" and teaches them to play the game in a non-boring, fun way.

And really how enjoyable does every one find this game to be?
For me, its fun to log in for maybe 2hours a day and play a bit of PvP and chat with my guild. I dont really find this a game that can replace WoWs or other games PvE.

    Yes that helped thank you

Do you build up your skills durring PvP as well or is that only in PvE combat?

and how is the PvP set up?

Is it like ok theres some one im going to attack them and camp their bodys until they cry or is it like certian areas are for pvp and certian are for pve

When you slay other players, or NPCs as it is in some arenas (Heroes Ascent, Zaishen Challenge/Elite) you gain "Balthazar Faction" points. You can spend these points on new skills unlocked only for your PvP characters.

and how is the PvP set up?
To PvP: 1st, you enter a "meeting" or "waiting" room where you can meet up with other players and form groups. Once you have the group you want (or if you're in Random Arenas then just on your own) you click "enter mission" and you are teleported with you team, or into a team, into an instanced arena. Here you can fight it out with 4v4 or 8v8.

Actually, you can get skills by trading in the Balthazar Faction or by acquireing that skill in PvE. Both ways work. But, I would actually recommend playing the PvE portion of the game first, as skills are much MUCH easier to get in PvE. Skills will cost 1000 Faction to unlock (for a PvP character) and in the Random Arenas (where you would start) you will not get much faction at all, on the order of 20~ per kill and about 100 for a win. And wins are hard fought sometimes.

Also, on farming, since the game is instanced, you don't have to worry about someone coming in and snaging your hard earned loot. But, the game isn't designed around a single character fighting their way through, so in that regard, farming can be difficult. But, there are many farming builds, and topics about where and how to farm on most of the dedicated Guild Wars forums. I believe that there's even a section for that on GuildWiki.

FACTIONS , brings new game play , pve , pvp , and pvevp .

my advice if you are new to the game , join pugs ( pick up groups )

dont play with henchs at start , you learn a lot with other players , if they call you noob , just ignore ( you are one after all )

use and abuse the possibility of joining random groups , learn from others

everybody is making random groups , its what the game is about

and after that , makes friends , try guilds , until you find a guild that fits you

imo henchs are usefull but not for a starter , its boring

its better to fail as a human group , at least you have fun , and talk about what went roung , etc.
