Age of Conan has been selected to showcase Vista (Windows newest operating system), they will be working with Microsoft to optimise the game for Vista and in return Microsoft will showcase their game.

Thats alot different than the deal SOE is working out in regards to Vanguard, but your version is good more entertaining.

The Sigil- SOE deal doesn't include anything to do with development. I think that was the point.

can you say double standard? i know that the soe haters that truly did love the concept of vanguard and they are just trying to convince themselves that vanguard will fail, i understand.....but quit fooling yourselves we now know that ms tried to ship vanguard early and sigil would have no part in that.

Hey yup, spot on angerr.

I did my best to try and help them though. Posted a topic listing all the companies that Sony has a part in. I'll be interesting in seeing how many can honestly say they aren't "sending a dime to Sony".

Nice try Dragonace, i thought your post was awesome . SEO haters will do anything to put down Vanguard, kick up dust and try and heat up everyone. BUT thats how forums work these days so I guess thats how things roll .

I just wanted to point out that "SOE haters" aren't going to care about Microsoft helping FunCom with OS optimization, just like the "SOE haters" didn't care that Microsoft was helping Sigil optimize their game (although Microsoft was also Sigil's publisher, but that really doesn't matter since Microsoft isn't SOE).

My personal opinion is this: I think SOE and MS both need to stay away from other peoples projects. If they want to fund a companies mmo because they see it has promise, thats one thing. Fund it, market it, take an agreed upon share of the profits in return. But both of these companies need to understand that it is not their place to take over development of someone elses work and completely change it. I want to see and play the game that the original developers had in mind from the beginning, regardless of what it is. If it is promising enough to interest SOE and /or MS in the first place, then it should be left for it's creators to finish according to their visions. What SOE/MS do to their own games is on them, they shouldn't ruin others games as well.

good point, however sigil didn't sign a contract with ms to develop vanguard....and i am assuming alot of "soe haters" will be migrating to AoC.

but let me ask you this...do you really believe Microsoft is any less "evil" than soe? have you seen any of the mmo's ms has been a part of? well the ones that actually made it to release *rolls eyes*

the point i am trying to make is *soe haters* are freaking out saying stuff like " soe is evil! they will get their hands on vanguard and ruin it eventually"

but yet now ms signs with funcom and its "oh thats just to market and optimize windows vista" double standard FTL! what a joke!

Just to clarify I believe Sigil still has the same deal with MS that Conan just signed.  Both Vanguard and Conan will be optimized for Vista and will be used in advertising by MS for Vista.  My first reaction was similar to the OP's but when I re-read the article there is very little relationship between Conan and MS.  But in a sense it expalins what MS wants from Vanguard.  Not a lot they just want high profile games to help them advertise Vista.  

Vanguad is a lot mroe valuable to SOE than it is to MS.   SOE needs to proect itself against Vanguard taking away all its customers from EQ2.  The merger is a great deal for SOE and it might end up being a great deal for Sigil.  Certainly Sigil gets the best of of many issues here they get to keep a relationship with MS, get cash from SOE, gain greater development control as a self publisher and can keep the game in beta much longer.  While I have nothing but disgust for SOE all in all I like the deal.  Not only does it allow them to extend beta but it lowers the hype and gtes rid of a lot of the kiddies that jump onthe bandwagon of hyped games.  If anything this merger gives Sigil more freedom and ability to stay true to their vison and make a more niche hardcore type game than it had previously.  While I don;t like giving any money to SOE I will play the game if its good and I now have an excuse not to play it if its bad.  All in all I like the deal.

While we most of us don't like SOE most of us will play Vanguard if its good.  If its not well then a lot of us will give it even less of a chance.

Microsoft and SOE are two different kinds of evil. Microsoft is an evil empire. SOE is an evil game publisher. Microsoft doesn't have a bad reputation with gamers, yet.
