I just want to reply to this comment since it is what capped off and locked the origional thread on the forums. This raises a question for me, and maybe someone more "in the know" can answer it:
If this Launchpad thingy is going to be a 'gateway to our differant games', well what games could they mean if EQ/EQ2/MxO/SWG etc aren't going to be ported? Are there other lamer games that they are talking about? I mean why tie the launchpad service in with the PS3 and charge people the $25 a month to play lesser games? I just don't get it. Although someone did make a good point that if this is the case, why hasn't the other MMO's seen an NGE of thier own? Or have they and I just don't know? Just curious, because I've always felt that the NGE was the rework of SWG in prep to go to console...it's just too...consolish to NOT be true
Anway just wondered.
Screw SOE...never another dime from me. And the fact it mentions saga of heroes makes even that more iffy about that title now
Kinda makes you wonder why SOE is taking a poll on the G15 keyboard... They want to add this support into SWG... the PS3 will have USB connections for joysticks... I still think Sony is lying about the LaunchPad thing. I still beleieve they will make all the access games accessible to their PS3 somewhow...

There has been a rumor about SWG being dumbed down for console since the CU.
It was said back when the CU hit by an "insider" that SWG could not work on console as it was originaly because it required a PC to use all of the interface ability. A lot of people flamed that "insider" report, but as time has gone on with further loss of the original SWG and then the NGE, that original report, in my mind, seems to be one that has held true.
I know that everyone has a prediction, but one very old one that seems to still be vallid is that SWG was being modeled for the next generation of SONY console.
The way I see it is this. It is obvious that SOE and LAE doesn't care about what we as customers want. What many of us have been trying to understand is why they would be willing to lose so many customers. How could they benefit from it.
If their whole goal is as said in the article to make Launch Pad a SONY console doorway then that means SOE, LAE, and all parties involved have taken a new direction and view for the games they produce. Quite simply, they are going to mass market.
Look at it this way, why would anyone pay $15 a month for World of Warcraft when they can get a grab-bag of MMO's all for about $25? I think this looks like the most probable and plausable thought pattern behind the move to dumb down their leading lines enough to get them on console.
This means to me that they are correct, the game we all knew and loved is gone forever. It will be lost to a gamble for much bigger proffits on the kiddy and non-PC mass gaming communities.
Will it work? It is a hell of a good idea. It is just terrible that they destroy active communities of loyal customers for a marketing gamble.
One benefit will be that since people will get a grab bag of mmo's, they will be less likely to expect as much since they will be swamped with a hoast of situations to master and explore. Looks nothing but bad for us though, we the Pre-CU crowd.
That is my take and two cents on this issue.

Lol, let me give u a little translation... All it means is that they will use the launch pad technology for the online play for many of the big games on PS3. That sounds quite logical me , but whos going to buy a ps3 anyways, there so expensive, I always thought the Xbox was for the rich kids and the PS is for the cool kids.. I guess times have changed, or times are just getting tough
--Will it work? It is a hell of a good idea. It is just terrible that they destroy active communities of loyal customers for a marketing gamble.--
Just like Aikes said, I think it's a great idea (making it so that you can play SWG on a/the consoles), that is, if you don't mind a dumbed-down shell of the game SWG used to be. I think it makes sense business-wise, it makes sense that non-gamer executives would push for it, it makes sense given the dumbed-down interface we see now, it makes sense given the PS3 power and capabilities, it makes sense given the "robust" engine SWG is built upon, and I would be surprised if they didn't actually do it. In fact, I would be disappointed (the game is not going to be what it was and could have been, so I EXPECT them to at least TRY to make it available en masse via the console systems). After all, Sony has such an enormouse cross-marketing potential it fairly screams this console porting should happen.
Well, tin foil hats are in order for everyone! What a bunch of illiterate fools. As has been pointed out by a few people, the article does not state that SWG is going to console. It takes the info about how Sony Station launcher will work for PC, adds in a comment by SOE that the launcher idea will grow past PC, and suggests that as a hint to how the PS3's online functioning will work. What that likely means is that for PS3, one will pay a single subscription to access the online functions on numerous or all PS3 titles.
Way to go for showing just how dumb some of you are. The true irony, though is how blindly you follow conspiracy theories, yet tell the "fanboys" that they blindly follow SOE. Paranoia FTW!!!111!!
I guess the simplist way to look at it is that SOE seems to be out of touch across the board. I seriously doubt they will get big sales of a console that cost more than many computers.
How well will a game less liked that completely free ones do on a console that is so over priced? Sony hasn't been a serious player in any major markets for some time. They are living on their past and burning credibility along the way. Big Screens might be an exception but I don't know. They used to dominate everything they touched but seem happy to soak up money while delivering nothing of value. I'm just sad to see that Lucas doesn't seem to be more concerned with protecting the legacy.

SOE has a long history of lying and not following through with promises... I am not sure how long you have played SWG (or even if you ever have)... Ive played since the beggining and all I can say is it has been one train wreck after another. You make fun of the tin foil hats but to be honest some of the most outlandish predictions have come true. Just because Sony ONLINE states that SWG will not go to PS3, it does not mean the division that makes PS3 wont bring the console to SWG. The article can be interpreted many ways, and when the people asked sony about it on the SWG forums Garva gave a half ass response (like he always does) and locked the thread... So I can only imagine where the conspiracy theories come from...
The article could be interpreted as Sony have computers on their side with the programs and then use their Launchpad to allow PS3 users to connect to the portals to play the games. So yeah they can state SWG will never go to console, meaning they wont box it for that purpose, buyt nothing is stopping them from making it accesible using new technology to PS3. The article also states that the PC is no longer where they are focusing, that its going beyond that...
So before you come in here and spout off with just 2 posts and make yourself look like an ass, maybe you should read the article and intelligently think about what you are going to post.. Otherwise js8ut head on back over to the SWG forums.

SoE prepared this move with a long hand (by long hand?).

I always wondered - what was the "big goal" behind it ? Esp. greedy companys like Lucas Art are NOT accepting financial drawbacks when there is no bigger pay off at the end.
So the plan was to have the PS3 (and next generation consoles) audience finally connected. Lucas Art and Sony (of course) know what major suck the game is nowadays, what massive drop in earnings is present since NGE, mass cancellations etc etc etc - we all know the picture.
So they always sat there and said "Screw it...dont bother, let the vets (even the noobs) cry about it, who cares? 50K customers now...5 Mil customers when all is set the PS3 Station Launcher is alive - we get 100 times more money soon, all of the noise NOW is silencing then...so just lean back collegues, listen the last Knights of the fallen country dying on the battle field: The next generation will pay off...."
And the 9-11 years old, having like 30 games on their launchpad...they wont voice up. They will say "Oh...a bug..or is it my keyboard ? Ah dont care, 25 games for 25,- - so 1 $ per game...so 3 cent per day per game: Who cares if there is a bug or not..."
This is what SoE is doing since almost a year now: 1. Prepare all current games for simplifyed plattforming (Plattform Publishing project) 2. Dump down the complexity of all titles, ready to be converted/implicated into that project 3. Lie to the customers like there is no tomorrow: Squeeze their $$$ like there is no tomorrow 4. Do NOT try to satisfiy ANY of these current customer: Thats not the final target audience, so f.ck them
What makes me feel sorry is the fact, that a once complex title is sacreficed completely - instead of a parallel PS3-SWG. That titles like "Gods & Heroes" (Perpetual), Vanguard (Sigil) and (maybe) STO (Perpetual) are ALSO "sacreficed" to/for such "Plattform publishing".
People need to stop floating in delusions: SoE always lied: Yesterday, the day before yesterday, today, tomorrow and it wont stop. Its about the money. And all the companys teaming up with them are JUST doing it also for the money.
And if some Garva idiot post his bullcrap # 7895 or not, as this would mean ANYTHING... Typical SoE forumcontrol which we witness since 3 years. Lies, "opinionchanges" and "corrections" are their instruments since ever - so noone should REALLY think that any SoE/LA sentence has any value. Latest by NOW this should be very clear, no ?
I just do wonder, what the future will be like....? Is every company chasing the "mass buck" and jump into the "gamepool" SoE is operating, spending their titles to the Station-Project to gain a little slice of the cake ?
So at the end, will there be any ongoing, complex and diverse gamedevelopment anymore? Or will every company make a "kiddi-shooter" from now on, to join the "mad cow disease club" where Smedman is the "mooo leader" ?
Or will the future bring consoles that powerfull and complex that they ARE the PC of the future (replacement) ? And what does that mean to us in the age of 40+ ?
Maybe, this is the end of the onlinegaming WE know so far?
We get older, our values are shifting...we start to travel with out familys, make more vacations, visit places etc. Maybe all this onlinegaming (like we know) has start to reinvent massivly - to our dislike.
And maybe...we should simply stop dreaming of the ole days, where we met nice people in nice game-citys, where we couldnt decide what to do of the gazillion things we were able to do.
Or we get a completely new and better omlinegaming within the next 10 years ? Who knows....many many "maybes" and "or (s)"...and assumptions.
One thing for sure: The change has begun. Lets see where this road leads to....
What I find funny is , If you followed the original development of this game. There were plans then to try and bring it to PS2 and Xbox .Aside form catching Smed in a lie , what is the big deal ? SWG on console is not what I would call a new concept .

I can't imagine a console player actually paying a monthy fee to access that piece of garbage game. Its graphics are dated, gameplay is idiotic and there is nothing to do in the game except chat with other people while you pretend to have fun.
Beyond that it is interesting because SOE has denied very forcefully that it isn't true yet expect you to believe all their other promises. This whole game has passed the point of being ludicrous and at this point I have no sympathy for anyone that gets burned.

First off It is supposed to have graphical upgrades over the summer , As the Devs themselves say . These are things that will happen in some form .
Second why would anyone pay to play a game and pretend to have fun ? Common Sense come on it isn't that hard .

Not sure why some people play it when it isn't fun, but I know many people that do. Most common reasons given are "I have invested too much in it to quit", "Its the only Star Wars MMO there is", "I still have friends there" or the infamous "It sucks, but its better than nothing." These people aren't actually using common sense as much as they are having an emotional reaction. Personally I love Sci Fi about 10 times more than fantasy and would rather play a mediocre Sci Fi game than a really good fantasy one, but SWG has even fallen below that threshold.
And I don't care if they update the graphics to look like the holodeck from Star Trek...its still a subpar game that most console players would literally laugh at. I also can't resist pointing out how funny it is that you say "Devs themselves say" in a post about the constant pathological untruths told by SOE Devs. The whole point of this thread is that the SOE Devs are liars who can't be trusted.
I was just reading an interview with Tim Sweeney(one of the guys working on Unreal Tournament 2007) and he was talking about how UT2007 will be a PC/XBox/PS3 release. PC and PS3 players will be able to play each other on the same network. While Xbox wont.
To quote: Sweeney- "The question of PC players playing against console players, or even console players on PS3 playing against Xbox360 is really more of a game play question than a technical one, because right now we do support running a PC server having PC clients join and play alongside PS3 and XB360 clients in our games networking framework. That basic approach works, but on XB360 side Microsoft has chosen to keep the network completely closed so you won't have PC players playing on XBox Live. Kind of an unfortunate decision, but it allows them to secure their network and control it carefully which you kinda want in a console environment. On PS3, we might actually enable that. When we get down to balancing the game to really play well on a controller, if it turns out we don't have to change the game play significantly, then we will enable PC players and PS3 players to play together, and we are really looking forward to that. We really like the idea a lot, and it looks like Sony will be very supportive of the open network approach."
Makes me believe that SOE will definately network a SWG console version to work with PC players.. They need more players and this is a good way to do it.
Originally posted by MX13 It says "Sony Revealed"... it's a DONE deal, and the Fanboi's can't hide from it...
Who the hell cares if they add console support. Why would fan's hide because it's on the console? Jesus Christ guys, you like to bitch and moan about everything SWG. You'd think you don't have anything better to do.
Some people don't actually use a PC, I know, shocking... but they will use a console. I know that might be as amazing as people that like NGE to you guys but some people actually do.
no one would hide now. the game has already been dumbed down so the damage is already done. i just think its hilarious because after NGE the official statement from SOE was there were no plans to port the game to console. Once again, SOE lied. Some of us (especailly those who were screwed by SOE) feel it's our duty to point out the unethical business practices of SOE.
As for current fans of SWG...I don't think they have any reason to be in an uproar. They are probably already used to the dumbed-down gameplay that SWG provides.
Truth. The psychosociopaths of Bloodfin are worth the $15/mo alone.
At least they were. I still prefered the pre-GarVa days. Filled up many a boring lunch hour with comic gold. Funnier yet is that I find "epic RP" to be even bigger epeen blah. Then again, I don't like either of the two main writers, so yea, I could be a little biased.
Anyway.

To quote: Sweeney- "The question of PC players playing
against console players, or even console players on PS3 playing against
Xbox360 is really more of a game play question than a technical one,
because right now we do support running a PC server having PC clients
join and play alongside PS3 and XB360 clients in our games networking
framework. That basic approach works, but on XB360 side Microsoft has
chosen to keep the network completely closed so you won't have PC
players playing on XBox Live. Kind of an unfortunate decision, but it
allows them to secure their network and control it carefully which you
kinda want in a console environment. On PS3, we might actually enable
that. When we get down to balancing the game to really play well on a
controller, if it turns out we don't have to change the game play
significantly, then we will enable PC players and PS3 players to play
together, and we are really looking forward to that. We really like the
idea a lot, and it looks like Sony will be very supportive of the open
network approach."
Makes me believe that SOE will definately network a SWG console version to work with PC players.. They need more players and this is a good way to do it.
Some people don't actually use a PC, I know, shocking... but they will use a console. I know that might be as amazing as people that like NGE to you guys but some people actually do.

As for current fans of SWG...I don't think they have any reason to be in an uproar. They are probably already used to the dumbed-down gameplay that SWG provides.

At least they were. I still prefered the pre-GarVa days. Filled up many a boring lunch hour with comic gold. Funnier yet is that I find "epic RP" to be even bigger epeen blah. Then again, I don't like either of the two main writers, so yea, I could be a little biased.
Anyway.

Do people even read before posting? SWG is not going the way of the console. The following is from SOE:
"Same reply as my other moving message, people need to read the press release and not interperti it to whatever they want before making post like this, It says Launchpad. Launchpad is ONLY a gateway to our different games, this does not mean ANY current launchpad using game is going to the PS3. SWG is not, as has been stated endlessly before.
