As stupid as this sounds, you're not in a very good place to hear good things about SWG. Why? Because this section of the forum is filled with malcontents who went out of their way to come here to gripe about SWG in a fairly obsessive/psychotic manner. Then you have Xplororor who lives for tormenting the malcontents. All in all, this forum is not a good place for decent discussion about SWG. I've tried, but so far I've had little success.

If I were you, and I knew of anyone else nearby who might have SWG, I'd consider asking them for their disks and trying one of the new buddy codes or whatever they're calling it. I think you can try the game for seven days free that way. You just need the install disks from a friend. (several of the MMOGs I've tried so far have operated like that or similarly, [buddy-systems] just in case any of the malcontents try to use this as some sign of the SWG-apocalypse)

    lol

Dringo, Im one of those SWG haters image, but ill tell you what

If you are interested, you can have my account as they have emailed me for like 14 free days.  However, if they ask for a cc# then you're on your own.

If you want my account for the free trial, lemme know Ill hook you up.

Also, its not a Jedi account sorry image  my spouse and I already sold that.  BUt we have a pretty decent account...she's got storm trooper armor, pre-nerf probot, 2 at-st and so far she's mastered about 7 professions and she has a medium naboo house with 278 days of maintenance free living (plus a room full of Composite and other assorted armors (she was a armorsmith before I decided the game sucked).

Lemme know if you wanna try it

ok..I know from reading these forums that I am venturing into dangerous territory :)

However I would like to tell you all why I find SWG a very good game, much to my own surprice, after reading all the negative comments on these boards.

I was untill resently playing AO, and had been for little over 3 years. AO, and EVE are my only other mmorpg experiences before I started SWG (flamebait? :D) I did however play AO rather intensively, and it is/was? a great game. With Its latest expasionspack the game changed however, and it is simply not possible to play the high lvl game as a casual player. the first lvl 220 players have just started to emerge and their logs shows months of play, with an average of 15+ hours of mindblowingly boring xp-grinding, every single day. Add to that, the game was rather bland, after looking at the same pixels for 3 years.

AO has it fair share of bugs, however what really nailed it, was the camping of uber items and camping just to progress. Nothing worthwhile can be done without 10+ players working together. For the powergamers this is a godsend, but for me I could no longer find the extensive time needed to play a computergame, which in essence should be relaxation, but ended up feeling like hard work...

    Enter SWG

In SWG I can play for 2 hours a day, and actually feel I am progressing, my character. I don't have to amass tons of people to kill x Mob to get  uber lewt Y to be able to compete.

Yes SWG has bugs, but none of them are gamestopping in any way. I dont know how beta was, as I have always steered clear of such things. I do however feel that a lot of the haters on these boards would judge the game differently if they had waited playing the game untill 6 months after launch, as I did. Or if they did not come into the game thinking that It should have enough content to replace real life :)

I love the graphics and I feel that the engine has a lot of potential for complex addons and content. With the rate of playing that I have atm, I feel that SWG will keep me interested for some time, and I hope content will be added, to fit the moderate tempo that I play now.

SWG has a lot broader apeal that other games of this type. People can be hairdressers and dancers, and, even though I don't want to play those professions, I do like that they are there, because they soften up the game, and they are actually needed for other professions to function. They bring life and imersion to the game, and makes it feel like a "real" world. In AO, noone roleplayed. Everyone was a killing machine out the get the next piece of uber armour/weapon whatever.

I play with a small group of freinds from my AO guild and, to tell you the truth. We are having MAD fun. In essence SWG is a game for roleplayers and casual players, and I really like that.

There are lots of varying opinions about this game.  I, too, am one of the people who have based SWG, probably because I was so dissapointed after I got it.  I had a blast in beta and for the first month or so of playing.  Great game, until all the bad points of it catch up with you.  With a very shaky start with lots of bugs and server downtimes, I just couldn't bring myself to continue my subscription.  I was expecting more, a lot more, and it was too bad it didn't work out for me and most other people.  I am also a huge Star Wars fan, so that didn't help either.  If you want to play, go ahead.  A lot of people still think it is worth the time and money.  Don't let anyone here stop you.

I was a former AO player myself and my wife and I are currently playing EVE (she's a Customer Service Rep for CCP based in Texas).

SWG is a great game, ..at first.

I you love SWG, then that's totally awesome.  However, I beg you to come back here to these forums in 90 days and tell me how you feel about the game.  I played AO for 2 years...so I tend to stick to mmorpgs I like.  I just couldnt stick with SWG.

Just let us know your opinion in 90 days and tell us what needs to be changed and what is cool and what is not image

I will love to come back in 90 days and tell how the SWG experience panned out and see if I still have the same oppinions as now :D

I assume I will keep playing about 2 hours a day in average, as I am now

Your post makes no sense. You want someone to tell you how good SWG is so you'll feel good about buying it?

Decide for yourself. Don't rely on other people's opinions. SWG comes with a 1 month free trial. At worse, if you don't like it, return it and get store credit, or exchange it for another game (RPG, FPS, etc...)

SWG is also a much different setting than FFXI, and any other Tolkien-themed MMORPG.

It's one  of 2 successfull Sci-Fi type MMORPGs. The other one is Anarchy Online.

BTW, what other MMORPGs have you played?

Stores don't usually take back MMORPGs, or any other game for that matter. They will buy back used games, but I've never been successful at selling back online games. Usually if you buy a MMORPG, it's yours for life.

    Exactly,

I have never seen  a shop that would return a mmorpg online game either.  EB will be very hesitant in letting you return a single PC game.....but never a mmorpg.

You have to try the game out for yourself...

Put it this way, FFXI which you claim is "not good". I have had it for almost a month now and i am having the time of my life playing it. Although for swg, i wouldn't touch that game with a 10 foot poll.

So maybe if i loved FFXI and hate swg, and you hate ffxi...well, maybe you'll love swg.

All in oppinion my good friend, i guess you have to find out on your own to see if it's good or not.

i cancelled my account this month, but you want the hype, i will give it to you. (note, i am leaving out what i see to be negative points)

the new jedi system will ensure that if and when you unlock your jedi, it will be reasonable and fun, as opposed to earlier.

player cities (even though they are pretty empty) can be really fun. good for pvp content.
the leveling system is really cool, and since there are character caps, if you start late you wont get raped:) its also fun to conastatly try out profs you haven't tried yet.

the community of players is by FAR the best thing about the game. there are ALWAYS people you'd rather not game with, but for the mostpart, people in swg are wonderful and fun to play with/against.

the graphics and sound = better than anything you've seen (if you've got the machine to run the settings at high levels).

hope that helps your motivation to try it out, because if you're interested, thats the best way to find out if its for you or not:)

    ENJOY IT.

    Flon Gerg

I really hope that *insert game name here* will be the first game to ever live up to all of its pre-release promises, maintain a manageable hype level and have a clean release. Just don't expect me to hold my breath.

  • I buy my games from GameSpot and CompUSA.

Notice I said he can EXCHANGE the game or get Store Credit.

I never said they accpet returns or will give a refund/buy back the game.

Stores most of the time don't mind an exchange or giving store credit because they still make the sale.

The customer still gets what they want - a game they like. Exchange or get store credit for any MMORPG, ..... for a RPG or  a FPS, or another MMORPG. Or merchandise, game books, magazines, etc...

I tried returning my FFXI back to compusa and they informed me because it was a mmorpg and it had a CDkey, they would not honor it...not even for an exchange or store credit.

The SWG, I just sold on ebay....I still have FFXI.  I tried to exchange it or store credit.  They kept on emphasizing mmorpg and cd key.  There were no exceptions....at least with this store.  I guess to the original poster who wanted to know if you could return the game, call them first or ask before you buy the game and be sure to mention it's a mmorpg and it contains a CD-Key.

I couldnt return Call of Duty (store credit either) either to Gamestop (babbages) because they mentioned about the multi-player game key.

Electroniques Beautique is the only store I know that will honor a return these days (cash back) but, now they have the same CD Key rule (especially if online play is involved)

  • I guess it varries from store to store.

Because I was able to exchange my Diablo 2 game for Freelancer. Both are online games. Both require CD keys.

IMHO GameSpot is a much better store than CompUSA. (More personable).

My most favorite store ever was Software City, but they've basically gone out of buisness years ago.

Well what I'll say is that when I started SWG I was so addicted leveling my character hanging out at fort tusken having the time of my life. It is probably one of the most fun games at starting levels. Then suddenly all of my friends and I would be sitting around our guild hall in game and bored out of minds trying to find stuff to do. Once you get high level the game does get boring I find which is why I quite and I left. I felt there to be a serious lack of interesting content. IF you like rpg's that give you some good story quests to follow then SWG is not for you. SWG is more about just living your daily life in SOE's version of Star Wars.

SWG was fun at first.  I just wished there was more content or someone other than SOE doing it.

The game I have been having the most fun playing recently is EVE online. That game seems to actually have depth to it. The only problem is that it has the steepest learning curve of all time. :(
