biggest downfall to horizons

this goes way back in the early does two or three months after its launch date.  i dont think lag had anything to do with sudden decrease of subscription numbers.

what i really think is AE pissed off alot of dragon players.  dragons was the weakest race of all the races in the game.  also if you were a dragon you had to maintain your hoard.  your hoard will actually decrease over time.  they changed this some five months after release.  they also didnt have the adult form released three months.  i remember a few were just pissed for waiting so long to even be an adult.

i remember looking through the player search window and would see about as many dragons online at the time as all the biped races combined.  if you did have alot of dragons players who were pissed off. then you could see your population quickly decline.  i remember on my server, dawn, there was an all dragon guild called order of the wyrm.  it had 190 members, then a few months it probably fated away.  the rest of the dragons who were still on merged with another all dragon guild, i think there were some 20 dragons left out of 190 originally.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

Oh, yeah, the bad old days. ::::07::

Things have really changed since then, and the number of new people choosing dragons is climbing. Used to be, dragons were 34% of all characters created; I expect it would be closer to 50% for new players now.

They are a lot better than they used to be. I tried a dragon character a couple of years ago. It was almost impossible to increase your horde size at all back then. I tried again about a year ago and horde-able loot drops were greatly improved, along with some other nice changes.

But it all still feels rather incomplete - not helped by the fact that as of the last time I played they'd skipped fixing the dragon quests.

They've probably fixed this up by now.

But with the very dated graphics, horrendous load times, terrible lag, and HEAVY focus on crafting, their appeal is always going to be limited.

PS - Wish they'd been a bit more imaginative with dragon animations. I mean playing a dragon, then going to cast a spell and seeing my dragon rear up on its hind legs and cast with one of its forelegs - like some lowly biped - bit tragic really.

Dragons have the old casting animation used in beta back. Much nicer!
