I Jedi??

digrizdigriz Member Posts: 254

Just trawling through the forums as ever, and with the question of timeline and iconism, why the hell do so many people want to play Jedi?? Especilly in this time frame. My main char was a BH/CM with some pistols (RIP) that i took force sensitive to gain that buff crystal thingy, but that was it. Maybe once i'd exhausted all of the other profs i may have given it a go, but i can't see why everyone and his uncle wanted to go Jedi.

As a starting prof, it's ridiculous. Is it because of the mythical alpha class, whereas you can beat anyone without working for it?? I loved combat medic, far more fun than tossing a sabre about. What's the point.....What is the point?? The jedi should be exterminated with extreme prejudice.

ok, rant done.

Honestly, there shouldn't be ANY Jedi (including my Elder Jedi), there should be "Force Sensitives" like Luke was until he faced the Emperor.

If they would have been smart in the NGE, they would have made FS something you could unlock and chosen as an expertise ability, such as LS Duelest (like the old trees), but you could only choose very FEW abilities. Smuggler + LS Duelest = Kyle Katarn. You couldn't wear armor, and the more you used your skills, the better you got.

No Robes, no Enclaves & no Jedi. There are no Jedi now, the Jedi have been destroyed, but that doesn't stop the Force from flowing through us.

Oh, and everyone should have innate armor (Han didn't wear Armor) and as armor goes up in type (R-B-A) it should offer more protection, but make you move slower and make you easier to hit.

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

Actually the devolpers have said over and over and over again that their version of the timeline does not reflect on the stories or the movies at all. It is only a general timeline too include specific factions and people to make the game feel more iconic.

People always fall back on the complaint about jedi and the time line. Like there isn't more important than stupid complaints about time lines... like laggy out dates servers, broken professions etc...

And Jedi are not an alpha class any more. I can't even believe you said that. When was the last time you played SWG Pub 10?

    Shouldn't that be: We, Jedi.

    As in, Borg.

Maybe I see things differently, but my Jedi was alpha class up until NGE (pub 26?). If you count survivability, then even the SL exploiting, server transfer puped, cooldown hacking rifleman couldn't take me down one on one.

I might have had trouble killing them, but unless I went LD, I couldn't be killed if I didn't want to. I guess it depends on the definition of alpha class.

Reason is that Jedi are just friggin' cool.

At the E3, a lot of people were talking (and LucasArts picked up on, according to Gamasutra) the idea of Wii remote being used in a lightsaber combat game. After all, there was a sword fighting sequence in Red Steel. Mind you, these people didn't think of ninjas, or samurai, or even medieval stuff -- they thought of Jedi.

The Jedi are icons of modern culture -- they just don't work in a SW MMORPG. Yes, pre-9 Jedi were great and functioned as they should, but more and more people wanted to be Jedi. Unfortunately, the moment everyone became a Jedi the populace stood back and gave a resigned "wtf."

Sad as it is to say, a game totally based on the GCW without Jedi just wouldn't sell as good as a Jedi-inclusive game. Unless, that is, it was a really well designed game -- and that would take the kind of talent that Sony corporation just doesn't have the patience for.

Hence the word 'mythical'. That was the question, do Noobs think jedi is alpha hence the ridiculous numbers. There are untold games out there to play Jedi in, why not try something else instead?

Yes I would like to play my Jedi Character.

Yes I would also like to play my TKM/ Master Doc and my crafter characters.

Yes I like to PvP and yes I like the Pre-CU system with and without Jedi in the equation. Most of the crying and whining seems to come from people who could not make it to Jedi Pre-CU and that seems to be primarily because they did not have what it took to do the grind and survive the Bounty Hunter attacks.

What I dont understand is why you care. Why do you care so much about how we want to play the game to level an attack on our point of view? I dont care that you want to play a game where Jedi is not a factor. You got it. It is called the NGE and beyond that every game out there is without iconic Jedi. Star Trek comes out soon and wont have Jedi, go play that. Hell, play WoW.

Yes, I want to play the game I originaly paid for. Yes I could enjoy it just fine without Jedi. Yes I feel I would enjoy it even more with Jedi and I, for one, don't care if you like that or not.

That could spawn a debate over what Jedi was versus what LA and SOE turned it into.

I think the original devs had much more reverence for that Jedi actually was, rather than the idiots maintaining the game.

Another irony here. When the game was in development and the devs said "there will be no jedis as it is not in the timeline/story".

Then constant whining made them add it and they have to say something.

Star wars is a story .Its more then a sci-fi fantasy.Thats something people needed to understand to begin wth.

Live the story, enjoy the background and it would have been a kick ass game. But noooo people only saw some floruscent tube,oh sorry its called lightsabers

Actually, I rather liked the village.  Deadly fun before the CU.  It just should have had nothing at all to do with becoming Jedi.  I would have liked to see more places like it: "academies" where you could do special quests and learn new skills outside of the regular skill system.

Because the over-inflation of Jedi is part of what broke SWG, and sent it to it's grave.    How much more fun was PvP before it became Jedi wars around the end of Pre-CU?  The original hologrinding even was a bad idea because it made professions just step paths to jedi, not professions to be enjoyed.

I never had ANY desire to be a Jedi.  Yet I despised the Jedi because they are out of place, they introduced numerous problems (i.e. people no longer caring about their guilds but the massive jedi grind), balance issues, made GCW pointless, made the imbalancing "stackers" a neccessity to survive, one could go on and on about what a bad idea it was to include jedi, and then once they decided to include it, made things even worse.

Jedi were one of the main focuses of the orginal three movies, and pretty much the only main focus of the new three. Say Star Wars now and the first thing lots of people think is jedi so its not a suprise so many people then want to play as one but unfortunitly they aren't doible properly in an MMO with any pretensions of class balance. Its just a pity they weren't happy with that in other games that did jedi well.

How many Bio-engineers did you see running around making Stim packs ? How many Vendors did Luke travel to to pick up a new lighhtsaber crystal ? How many Wookies did you see running around wearing Waste baskets ? How many Kimogilas did you see ? or Pickets ? How many TKMs did you see fighting using Martial arts as their offence ?

Malick I totaly agree, however it was $medley that ok'd the destruction of all things non-iconic and star warsy. In order to replace them with only star warsy and iconic professions, so that's why your non-star warsy BE and TKM are now no longer. What I don't understand is how a medical robot with less mobility than Muhammed Ali can be the king of the hill in combat, in a universe that is 100% star warsy and iconic? Also are the hospitals still empty? I remember when they were teeming with life during the hologring, ah good days, fine memories. Many a night I sit and reminisce over going to those hospitals after a hard hunt, whilst tasting a fine brandy and plotting $medley's grizzly end to the song "West End Girls" by the Pet Shop Boys on a dark cold evening by the fireplace in my smoking jacket while it rains down heavily.

    Erm forget the last sentence........ok?

I agree, I would prefer a different character to represent my profession :p  When you think of Medic, think of Combat Medic not Doctor.

I've been Medic long before everyone else figured out it was all that.  Since the NGE hit infact.  Since launch I've always had Medic skills and I've always enjoyed being the support person for the group.  It's just a bonus that I can handle myself pretty well in combat with the skills I get as a Medic :p

it was the only content available in SWG (THE endgame)

it used to be an alpha-class...

any non-elder jedi nowadays is just a wannabe (or forced to that spot because they liked to fight melee!!!

anyway Jedi was the only way to go if u didn't want to get slaughtered in PvP (god I hated it so bad when everyone was grinding unlocks and I sticked to being a buffbot/healer in PvP.

I caught up eventually, about a year later when most were already leaving the game

I agree in large part it was the only high end content  . But I also do not think it was that much of an alpha class . As a fencer /pistol/doc temp I rarley had a problem fighting against jedi . 1 on 1

Honestly?  I went Jedi because I had nothing else to do.  I was totally bored.  I liked the idea of a second toon to level up so that was it for me really.  Never wanted to be uber or a bigtime PvPer.

The problem wasnt why people went Jedi.  Its that people had no choice.  The serious lack of content and updates left people with only one goal.  With it clearly mapped out on the forums how to become a Jedi everyone could.

I was always an advocate of allowing other combat professions to reach a semi alpha state.  Think of the Village quests but instead of converting xp into FS xp you basically had to grind your usual profession.  Like Rifleman.  After doing a Rifleman grind equivalent to the village you could get new abilities, mods, rewards specific to your profession, and at the very very last the ability to unlock a 2nd character.  Had this been an option I would have never started to become a Jedi.

Sadly, its all in the past now.
