Easy class to get groups with?

ParkCarsHereParkCarsHere Member Posts: 666

Greetings.

I tried the trial once a few months ago but never bothered to go on to the retail version of the game... now I'm trying the trial again and seem to be liking it, although who knows how far I will get.

If I do decide to go retail, I was wondering which class seems to be the most needed and could get groups easily... as I like grouping in MMORPGs. I'm usually a Healer-class although I've heard I wont be able to solo at all to get to the level where people are actually looking for groups in this game (around 20 or so?)... so if anyone could tell me a "most wanted" class (any type: DD, Tank, Caster, Support, etc) I would greatly appreciate it... thanks!

I find a Swashbuckler or Assassin to be easy to get groups with. Both are fairly easy to solo with too, since you can go invisible and seek out the solo content.
Both are great DD, however the assassin is better. The Swashy has group smuggle which that alone gets me into a lot of groups. Swashy is on Qeynos side and Assassin is on Freeport side.

I prefer my Assassin, but I prefer the town of Qeynos, so I play the Swashbuckler.

If you plan to group a lot then go guardian.

There are all sort of healers who heal quite well .

Also all tanks do tank well but a guardian is always first choice for a tank.

Strictly from a mechanics standpoint, a Priest would be the most requested to fill a group.  However, I have been in groups that have been Mages only (no tank, no healer), and we did great!  A group can have almost any makeup and still be fun.  If you plan on taking on serious named mobs, though, you'll need a dedicated tank (Guardians are best) and a healer.

But would you want to fill a role that others want or would you want to play something that you enjoy?  Healers in a group tend to stand around a lot and heal, and heal, and heal.  There's no point in melee and possibly getting hit by a AE attacks which inturrupts your cast.  And there's no point in using relatively small nukes when the other DPS classes can do double or triple that amount.

When not in a group, you may find that your small nuke ability and even smaller melee ability will result in some slow (albiet safe due to heals) solo fighting.

Frankly, I've seen groups looking for members of all types.  DPS, Tank, or Healer.  It really depends on how many players of what class and what level are on at a particular time.  A high demand for healers this hour may change to a high demand for DPS the next hour.

Bottom line, play a class that is fun for you.  You have a much better experience with the game in the long run.

Well, I like to play all classes, so that's why I was specifically asking for what was most needed.

Thank you for all your replies, they definately helped... quick question about the Guardian though... would I have to pull a lot? I personally hate pulling (I don't even know if anyone "pulls" in this game though...) and that would be the one thing that turns me off Guardian. I've never really played a tank character through to the highest levels, so it might be a good change. I just started an Assassin and think it's fun... after I got Ambush which gives me great intial damage :P.

Anyone who can answer that... thanks! :)

You can pull a few ways; Body (run up to it and bring it back), Taunt (use a ranged Taunt skill to bring the mob to you), Pull Assist (someone else pulls initially, you taunt it back to you), and Ranged (use your ranged weapon to pull it to you).

If you don't want to pull, ask someone in the group to do it for you.  That will work as long as you can taunt the mob off them.  If you can't, your tenure as the MT will be short lived.

As a Conjurer in a group without a fighter, I've used my tank pet at the groups MT.  I manage the mob agro to ensure they are attacking the pet, and the healer focuses heals there.

Assassins have the single highest melee hit from behind.  You'll find that will bless you with agro, and you'll hope that Guardian can taunt it off you.

Yeah, I figured Assassins would draw a lot of aggro. Since I started my Assassin earlier today I've had great fun with it and am very sure I will buy the Kingdom of Sky (?) expansion (since it comes with original and expansion I think...) very soon so I can experience the game outside of the newbie lands.

I might try Guardian as well.. so many choices ;).

Another question... I doubt this is possible... but is there anyway to change a characters appearance after they've been created? I love how my Necromancer looks but my Assassin (who I rushed through character creation process with) doesn't look as cool... I could make a new one but I'd rather not :P.

There are 2 options to changing your appearance.  One is Alternate Appearance, available at the Character Selection Screen, takes you through the character creator and the customizable choices.  These looks were formerly known as SOGA, a anime-style look.  I didn't like these, as it made my head look small and put too much junk in my Erudite trunk.  NOTE: You can do the Alternate Appearance only once, so make changes carefully!

Another way is to visit a Barber:
    - Sayergei the Stylist and Barber Whiskerwuzzle have set up barber shops in North Qeynos and West Freeport, respectively.
    - Visit them if you wish to purchase an option to change your character's appearance at Character Select.
    - Sayergei the Stylist has set up shop in the room above the Gem Box in North Qeynos.
    - Barber Whiskerwuzzle and his troll, Razorburn, have set up shop in a stall near the stables in West Freeport.

Still having fun.. well, I was having fun up until about 20 minutes ago :P. I'm at a quest where I have to go into a cave and kill 3 elders, then 3 animals... then probably 1 more guy. The best I've gotten is killing the 3 elders and dying on the third animal. I'm doing it on my Assassin so I don't have much armor, but I am doing quite a bit of damage, and I'm the same level as the mobs... I'm guessing I need a group to finish it.

Quick question... I thought Kingdom of Sky included the original game... on the digital download site for Sony it says the original Everquest 2 is required... if this is true then I guess I will only buy the original Everquest 2, but I thought one of the expansions included the original game... can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks a lot!

(I'm keeping my questions in 1 topic because I had so many and didn't want to spam threads :P)

Regarding armor, you need to do a few things.  First, make sure your armor is repaired.  When you die, your gear looses 10% effectiveness.  Next, upgrade your armor to the best you can afford.  Get items that boost your primary stat, which is AGI.

Next, make sure your skills are upgraded to at least Apprentice IV.  The ones you most frequently use should be at least Adept 1.  You will do significantly more damage.  Lastly, fill every slot you have with something.  Charm, ring, wrist, etc.

When fighting, use your Stun skill to stun the mob, then leap behind it to use any rear attack.  Also use heroic Opportunties to brign out more damage.

KoS is a separate expansion pack.  If you bought the retail version of KoS, it comes with a free basic version of EQ2.  To get the digital download of KoS, you have to have bought the retail basic EQ2 game.  The best deal is to get the retail KoS, which comes with the basic EQ2.

Actually when you get to know your assassin you should draw almost zero aggro unless you have a very hopeless tank.

You get a aggro reducer u cast on the tank and its makes him take a % of aggro .Then you get 2 other abilities you se to reduce aggro on off chance you do get aggro.

Guardian well you have to pull yes but its not like old EQ1.Its relatively easy.Just buy a bow and cheapest arrows you can find.

Another class you might wanna look into is the fury. They heal well and have some lovely dmg spells too.Sort of a offensive druid.

    Experiment and enjoy.

Hmm... I didn't even know there was durability in this game... I should've known ><. I doubt that is my problem though since I only died in that cave and couldn't do anything the first time I went in anyways.

However, I haven't trained skills at all... I thought you learned all your skills everytime you level up.. since I've been getting new skills every level. I have to upgrade all my skills?

I just got a heroic opportunity thing and learned how to use it... I only use it on longer fights though since all my cooldowns are down so I can't get the chain... and I always stun as soon as I can. I play my Assassin much like I did a Rogue in WoW: I disorient, go behind, backstab, and repeat. I'm always trying to disorient my opponent so I can get the jump on them.

Remember I'm still on the newbie island... I will probably go buy Kingdom of Sky at EBgames or Gamestop either today or tomorrow. Thanks for all your help everyone, especially you Kindle. It's been greatly appreciated!

At level 7 my Assassin was able to solo the cave, but it wasn't exactly easy. The key is to pull just the first 3 to you, and use all of your skills to full advantage, including your rear attack, which you can get off if you stun him, and your stealth attack, which you can get off during combat if you time it right. Also, if you manage to get off your other rear attack, it puts you in stealth mode so if your quick enough you can use your stealth attack right after it.

The key to a stealth class is that your skills require a little more tactics then the fighter classes, seeing as how you have alot more attacks that are rear only, and really require you to be on your toes to use efectively while solo.

So far im only on the island as well, since I won't be buying the game till this coming friday, but I have played Guardian, Dirge, and Assassin to level 8 on the island so far and loving them lol. Played EQ1 from Pre-Kunark to mid to late PoP and am quite pleased as to how the game has evolved into EQ2.

I just got level 7 but am going to try another character (buying the game in a few hours) to make sure I want to pursue Assassin as my main in the retail. I did the exact same tactic as you did at level 5... I stealthed inside the cave, stealth attacked one elder and the other two came with him (which was unavoidable). I then use all my skills on cooldowns to kill them. However, by that time I had very little health and the monsters killed me very quickly (although once I got lucky and hit the right exp level to get full health and energy).

I'm going to try Guardian right now, but thanks for your advice on that cave. I probably could do it now that I have better armor, upgraded my spells, and am 2 levels higher :).

You DO get your new spells automatically, however they are the weakest kind, Apprentice 1.  You can craft, find, of buy upgrades to them, and you REALLY want to do that.   Here's how the upgrades line up:

    Apprentice 1-4 = player made

    Adept 1 = loot drop

    Adept 2 = not implemented

Adept 3 = player made with an expensive rare component

Master = loot drop or racial trait pick.

You can buy any of these (escept for the trait pick) from teh Broker.  You can also go on a crafting channel and ask someone to make one for you.  I recently had a level 54 spell made at Adept 3 level for 3pp.

You could try a swashbuckler or brigand, they are easy to solo with and do dps much like the assasin but less squishy when in between groups.

Fury! You can heal and kick buttocks too. Pretty much any healing class is wanted in a group, and not many people play straight up healers.

Thank you very much for your help everyone, especially for clearing up that skill levels thing. I didn't even check for that, as I assumed everything was just given to me :P.

    Quick questions about healing classes:

    1) Fury - Can they heal well enough to be a main healer, and do enough dps to survive solo?

    2) Pure healer - Can they solo at all (when it's hard to find a group)?

Thanks again everyone, you've all been very helpful :).

    Expand on this?
(From what I have read, for epic-ecounters Illusionists are buff bots now that procs got nerfed & because most spells have the "not epic"-tag? Meaning regular groups are still ok.)

I just got the retail version tonight and the updates are almost done! :)

I think nearly every class can get groups it just depends on the time and level range. If a class can get groups easy in low levels does not mean it will have it as easy when it comes to high levels.

On healing in my opinnon all healers can do the job as solo healers for a group. You just have to know how to play this class.  Same is true for tanking for groups it will not matter that much what class your tank is it more depends on how good he knows how to play his class and how good his equip/spells are. Monks ans Bruisers are really good tanks too, and much more fun to play solo. (my main is a lvl 70 paladin, but i have a low level bruiser and i really like it for the fun to solo).

If you plan to solo a lot then you propably should not pick a plate healer, they are safe soloers but you need so long for each fight that you will not feel any advancement. Also Plate Tanks are slow soloers, but they at least have the oppertunity to switch to offensive stance and equip 2handed or dualwield weapons.

Great classes for soloing are: fury, warden, conjurer, necromancer, monk, bruiser, also nearly all scout classes can be good at soloing when you get used to the positional attacks, stealth attacks.

People with high lvl characters always suggest this, as if there is an endless amount of gold to be had by n00bs...

You don't need to worry about significantly upgrading your spells until about lvl 30...  The levels fly by so fast that upgrading lower level spells during the interim are a waste of coin...

The problem with these high level people giving advice is that they have no frame of reference for someone just starting out...

Go to the scribes and get all of your elementary spells to APP II, this will be enough to tide you over...  Once the levels start dragging (around lvl 30), then you will want to start looking for adepts...

Also, you will get the chance to select Master spells every so often as part of your character traits, choose wisely...

It is true, money at lower levels is hard to come by.  When I started my now-high level Conjurer back in November '04, I had but a few copper to my name and was very selective on the upgrades I got.  Many levels went by when I just couldn't afford any.  Many spells never got upgraded.

But eventually I found some Adept I deals on the broker, had a guildmate make a few Apprentice IV upgrades, even was lucky to have one generously given to me by a group-mate that I barely knew.  However, luck is slim and not everyone has the luxury of being selected to join a guild with great artisan support.

Your cash income is low for now but don't dispair.  Cash flow increases as you take on higher tiers and the loot drops are better.  What is expensive at level 10 will be cheap at level 30.

The key, and what I mentioned before, is to upgrade what you can afford.  You will not be able to upgrade everything to the best ability possible for now.  But with hard work, and maybe a little luck, you'll be able to upgrade your primary spells and combat arts.

You don't need to buy any Adept III's at lower levels.  As Dis_Ordur noted, those levels will fly by fast.  Adept I's will get you through for now.

Alright, thanks again for all your replies: It's nice to have people actually helping me on message boards, hehe.

I have already bought Apprentice II (I think.. bought them at the island) for all but two of my skills (on my Guardian) and didn't really notice that much of a difference... like 1 extra damage point. Still, I had the money and bought them all. I just got into Freeport and spent about 2-3 hours straight (not joking.. :P) going through every part of it (except the Cemetary... looked dangerous :P) and picking up quests. I now have over 40 quests that I'm starting to chip away at now. I noticed I still have no money so I wont be buying anything for a while... (although a very nice person randomly /t me after he saw me struggle with a low level mob, asked for 20 silver... which I said I didn't have, so he asked for 1 copper which I gave him, and he added a cool 1 handed axe to the trade window... I was shocked and very happy... so far I love this community... much better then other MMORPGs I've had a problem with (community-side) *cough* WoW *cough*)

A few random questions if anyone with a little time can answer for me... that'd be great :):

    1) In this game, are there dungeons that people group in at lower levels, or is it just outside places? (Lower levels only, not talking about high-level raids)

    2) Should I solo as I start off and wait until a higher level to start grouping, or start grouping right away? (I'm a level 9 Guardian as of posting this...)

    3) If I should wait until a higher level to start grouping, what level is good?

A note about me - I'm not one of those players who wants "omg max exp now plx" I just want to enjoy my time and particularly like grouping, but don't want to waste my time with it at lower levels if it wont be beneficial.

I know I should start looking for a guild (Crushbone server) but I'll wait a little bit... and I'll get into crafting whenever I feel like attempting to learn yet another thing :P.

Thanks for any help you can give, and again, thanks for all the help you guys have provided for me so far :).

    1. The lowest level dungeons would be in the Sewers.  The deeper you go the harder it becomes.

    2. The great thing about the game is that you can play any way you like.  You can solo and put your LFG tag up, then jump in a group.  If the group dissolves after a while, go back to soloing.

    3. Same as #2.

There really is no perfect level for grouping since there is a lot of content for all play styles.  You can get groups now or just solo all the way throug, it's up to you!

If you plan on being in a group, you 'll probably be the MT (Main Tank).  You'll want to keep your Taunt ability upgraded.  The groupmates that stay alive because of it will thank you.  As discussed before, don't spend too much at lower levels, as you'll quickly outgrow them.

If things don't work out for you on Crushbone, you could consider Najena.  We have a robust population, stable economy, players in almost every zone, and guilds of all sizes.

When you get there, look me up.  I can help you get started with upgrades, directions, advice, and some coin.

    See you there!
